Capítulo 514: Trial Run [End of Succession Arc]

Rael hovered in the sky as he watched Theo deal with the Death Knights, leading them in large chunks toward all the kingdoms of this continent.

“Stop! You over there! Get in line or I’ll make you crawl to Aurenthia!”

Safe to say, it seemed like he was starting to get his shit together slowly. However, his inner turmoil was definitely gnawing at him, especially when he knew he would need to talk with Victoria right after.

As for Rael, he had a lot of thoughts swirling in his mind as well. The one that stood out the most was obviously the thought that he had really changed.

I don’t feel the change… But is it even that bad? Rael wondered, yet asked at the same time as if wanting to hear the opinions from those camping inside his mind.

Surprisingly, Burger was the first to speak up.

[Doesn’t really bother me. I just thought of you as a pushover before. I’m glad you’re actually getting shit done now,] Burger cackled. [The past you would’ve definitely scoffed at the cruelty you showed earlier.]

[I agree with Burger…] Gaia chimed in, surprising both of them.

You do?

[Seriously, tree tits? You actually—Shit…]

[What did you just call me?] Gaia asked coldly. [Tree what? I know exactly where you’re hiding… Do sleep with one eye open because you never know when a vine might wrap around your neck and strangle you, dragon.]

[H-Haha, it was only a joke. Anyways, the Spirit Realm’s calling me for dinner, so I gotta go. See ya,] Burger said, literally vanishing to the Spirit Realm.

What a coward. Rael sighed. But seriously, Gaia, you agree with him?

Gaia chuckled softly. [I do. And I’m sure if you were in our shoes, you would agree with us as well… But enough about our opinion, she’s descending.]

Rael immediately got the memo as the air fluttered slightly, becoming warm.

A moment later, Vatyra arrived beside him. Her previously glum expression was replaced by one of enlightenment.

And soon enough, she spoke:

“I have a question for you. I want you to answer it truthfully.”

Rael raised a brow. “Go ahead.”

“If there ever comes a time where I fight Zarkul to the death, would you be with me, or against me?”

Taking in her words, he was left puzzled.

“I don’t have an answer to that…” Rael replied truthfully. “I don’t know either of you nearly enough to help you. You opened up to me slightly, and because of that, I might lean toward helping you more than Zarkul. But again, I don’t have a solid answer for you, nor do I want to lie to you just to get you on my side.”

With that, a moment of silence ensued, followed by Vatyra letting out a sigh.

“It’s as I thought…”

She met his gaze. “Truthfully, I haven’t made up my mind yet whether I want to join you or not. I asked that question, but right after I spoke, I realized how stupid it sounded. You are not obligated to help me, especially when you mentioned you were close to his daughter. It’s not fair to you, so forget it…”

Noticing that the situation was turning glum again, Rael decided to think up a solution, one that was incredibly simple.

“How about a trial run, then?” Rael suggested. “You don’t have to join me outright, but traveling with me for a week or so won’t change much, will it? If you don’t like it, you can always go back.”

“Hmm… A trial run?” Vatyra mumbled. “And I can leave whenever I want?”

“That’s what I said, yeah,” Rael replied plainly. Though is she really that lonely to be actually considering this? I kinda feel like a douchebag for bringing that up now…

And it seemed like her resolution was quicker than he thought.

“I see, I guess I’ll be in your care for now. Oh, and that’s the last time I act formal around you. You got that?”

“Sure sure.” Rael rolled his eyes with a smile. “It almost sounded like you were going to confess to me or something.”

“Huh? And why would I do that?” Vatyra scoffed. “You’re nothing more than someone I’m going to ride from this day forth.”

“…?”

“Ride on your back I mean, don’t get any perverted ideas,” Vatyra corrected herself.

Aside from that, Rael was inwardly happy. He had a powerful ally that just so happened to be free enough to accompany him. Of course, he wouldn’t be a leech, and he most definitely wouldn’t ask her to solve all his problems.

A simple trial run where he would show her how he does things. Nothing too serious.

But he did feel a little touched by her question as it showed her vulnerability. Not only that, she went as far as to consider his feelings right after.

She really did think about it, huh? I guess taking the first step is always the hardest. I just hope this trial run will give her a clearer picture of what she wants.

But aside from that…

“Theo!” Rael called out. “I’m going to be heading out now. Take care of everything, and remember, if a city doesn’t have my dimensional store in the center, then it’s not my city. Got that?”

Theo rolled his eyes at Rael’s greediness and went back to commanding the Death Knights. It seemed like his Inspire skill had something to do with their perfect coordination.

And because of that, Rael was left assured that Theo would do just fine… if his lover doesn’t kill him, of course.

Nonetheless, with everything done, Rael proceeded to quickly undo his Full Dragon transformation, causing his body to immediately get several times weaker.

<Ding!>

“Ugh… I feel like a slug,” Rael complained. I really need to raise my Fate Mastery soon. Will probably try tapping into that time-stopped realm again. Might work.

Even so, he gestured for Chop-E to approach, and then, he nodded at Vatyra.

“I entered this place from the Silver City, and my guess is, Solenne is still there. Do you have any way I can exit from some other place?”

“Hm? Sure, I guess. All of us Supreme Monsters have our own gateways. We can open them wherever we want.”

Rael tilted his head. “Even if that gateway is being blocked by Solenne?”

Vatyra’s brows twitched, an ominous feeling welling up in her chest. Follow current novᴇls on noⅴelfire.net

“Just what are you planning…?”

A chuckle escaped Rael’s mouth as his grin widened.

“Well…”
