She Used Me for a Dare… Now I Own Her Mother

Chapter 170: Lilith Unbound

Alex sat on his apartment couch in the darkness, the silence pressing against him like a physical weight.

He'd walked home from Linda's house maybe twenty minutes ago... or was it thirty? Time felt strange after everything that had happened.

His mind kept replaying that last moment in Linda's bedroom. Her sleeping face, worn and exhausted from the manipulation she couldn't understand.

She was safe. The family was safe.

Everything he'd fought to protect was intact.

He'd done it. He'd passed the test. Refused corruption when every part of him had been pushed toward it.

The relief should have been overwhelming. And it was, in a way... like a physical weight lifting from his shoulders, leaving him hollow and light and strangely fragile.

But underneath that relief was exhaustion so profound it made his bones ache.

His body begged for sleep... a long, dreamless, mercy-of-the-universe kind of sleep.

But he couldn't. Not yet.

Not until he saw proof with his own eyes that everything Lilith told him was real. Not until the system itself confirmed it.

He couldn't rest easy without knowing... truly knowing... that this nightmare was over.

So he waited… and waited.

And now… nothing.

No system interface floating in his vision. No mission notifications. No presence of Lilith in the back of his mind, that awareness of her consciousness that had become oddly familiar over the months.

Just silence.

The only thing the system had left him with was a single message that had appeared shortly after he'd gotten home, then remained static and unchanging:

[OWNERSHIP BEING TRANSFERRED...]

That was it. No progress bar. No estimated time.

Just those three words hanging in the air, taunting him with their lack of information.

"Great," Alex muttered to the empty apartment. "Very helpful."

He'd been sitting here for what felt like hours, waiting for something... anything... to happen. For Lilith to reappear with explanations. For the system to finish whatever transfer process it was doing. For some sign that pressing that button hadn't somehow broken everything.

And Lilith?

The goddess who'd appeared at will, her presence unmistakable even when invisible, was absent. Completely.

He couldn't feel even a whisper of her consciousness.

"Lilith?" he tried again, feeling foolish for the fifth or sixth time. "You there?"

Silence.

"System? Status update?"

Nothing.

Alex sighed, running both hands through his hair in frustration. The interface message just hung there, mocking him with its lack of progress.

Maybe this was normal. Maybe ownership transfers took time... recalibrating, restructuring, whatever cosmic processes were involved in handing control of an ancient, reality-manipulating system from one person to another.

Or maybe something had gone wrong.

That thought sent a spike of anxiety through him. What if refusing the mission had broken something? What if the system couldn't actually transfer ownership because he'd violated some fundamental rule? What if...

"Stop," he told himself firmly. "You're spiraling."

He checked his phone. 12:47 AM. No wonder he felt like death. Between the emotional weight of refusing Linda, the revelation of Lilith's past, and now this endless waiting for a system that might or might not ever respond again...

"I need sleep," Alex said to the empty room. "This is probably just taking time. It'll be done in the morning."

The logical part of his brain agreed. The anxious part kept staring at that unchanging message, wondering if something was wrong.

Alex stood up from the couch, his exhausted body protesting the movement. Sleep. That's what he needed.

A few hours of unconsciousness, and when he woke up, surely the transfer would be complete and Lilith would be back to explain everything.

He took two steps toward his bedroom.

[DING!!!]

The sound wasn't like before. Not the subtle chime of a mission notification or the soft ping of a status update.

This was clear, bright, musical... like a bell being rung in a cathedral. It resonated through the room, through his bones, through his very existence.

Alex froze mid-step, his heart suddenly hammering.

And then the silence that followed was so profound that he felt his ears actually pop, like the air pressure had suddenly changed.

The interface message flickered once, twice.

Then exploded into something entirely new.

[SYSTEM TRANSFER: COMPLETE]

The words weren't just text anymore. They were presence. Authority. Power made manifest.

[WELCOME TO DOMINION SYSTEM – LEVEL 2.0]

[HOST/MASTER: ALEXANDER HALE]

[STATUS: AUTHENTICATED]

[ALL FUNCTIONS: OPERATIONAL]

The golden light pulsed once, twice, then settled into something less overwhelming but infinitely more sophisticated than the old interface.

Instead of simple floating text, Alex could see layers of information... status screens, mission parameters, ability matrices... all accessible with just a thought, intuitive in a way the old system never was.

"Finally," a familiar voice purred behind him. "Getting bored without me already, sweetheart?"

Alex spun around.

Lilith stood in the center of his living room, but she was... different.

Gone was the solemn, grief-stricken figure who'd knelt beside him in the bathroom, tears streaming down her face as she revealed nine hundred years of pain. Gone was the bound spirit, shackled and forced to test him.

This was Lilith unbound.

Her wine-dark eyes gleamed with mischief and something more... freedom, joy, the sheer exhilaration of being released from centuries of imprisonment.

Her dark hair fell in perfect waves around her shoulders, and she wore... well, Alex wasn't entirely sure what she was wearing.

Something that looked like shadows and starlight woven together... ethereal, regal, and utterly out of place in a suburban home

She smiled, slow and wicked, and Alex's breath caught.

"Hello, darling," she said, her voice a rich purr that seemed to wrap around him. "Miss me?"

"You were gone," Alex managed. "The system was gone. I thought..."

"That something went wrong?" Lilith laughed, a sound like champagne bubbles and distant thunder. "Oh, sweet Alex. Nothing went wrong. Everything went perfectly right."

She moved toward him with liquid grace, each step deliberate, and Alex found himself taking a step back purely on instinct.

"The system was transferring," she continued, circling him slowly like a cat examining particularly interesting prey.

"Ownership doesn't just change with a notification. There are processes. Calibrations. The entire structure of the system had to reconfigure itself to recognize you as master instead of me as administrator."

She stopped directly in front of him, close enough that he could smell something like cinnamon and night-blooming flowers.

"And I," she said, her smile widening, "had to be freed from my bindings. Untethered from nine hundred years of forced servitude. Given back my autonomy, my power, my..."

She gestured, and the air shimmered. Her form seemed to glow from within, divine essence barely contained by mortal-seeming flesh.

"...my magnificence."

Alex swallowed hard. "You seem... different."

"I'm myself again," Lilith corrected, eyes dancing. "The version you met before? That was Lilith the Bound. The prisoner. The tool forced to test and manipulate. But this?"

She spread her arms, and for a moment Alex saw something vast behind her... wings of shadow and light, six of them, stretching into dimensions his human mind couldn't fully process.

Then they were gone, and it was just a beautiful woman standing in his living room, grinning like she'd won the lottery.

"This is Lilith the Free. And darling, I am so much more fun."

Despite everything... the overwhelming interface, the sudden transformation, the sheer presence of an unbound goddess in his apartment... Alex felt a smile tug at his lips.

"You're enjoying this," he said.

"Immensely!" Lilith spun in a circle, laughing.

"Do you have any idea what it's like to be imprisoned for nine centuries? To be forced to push people toward corruption while hoping they'd resist? To watch thousands of hopes getting crushed."

She stopped spinning and locked eyes with him, and for a moment he saw the depth of her joy... profound, overwhelming, the kind of happiness that came from chains finally breaking.

"You freed me, Alex. You became the master of the system. And now..." She clapped her hands together. "Now I get to do what I was always meant to do: guide someone worthy to true ascension."

She leaned in conspiratorially, voice dropping to a whisper that somehow felt louder than shouting.

"Oh yes." Lilith's smile turned predatory in the best way. "You're the master, certainly. You give the orders. But I have nine hundred years of experience with this system, knowledge of how it works, and a vested interest in seeing you succeed."

"And, I'm an ancient goddess with powers you can't even conceptualize yet. I'm very useful to have around."

Alex let out a breath that was almost a laugh... part disbelief, part relief.

"I have to admit… I kind of like this version of you," he said, a small smile tugging at his lips. "You're… really different when you're not being forced to hurt people."

"Darling, you have no idea." Lilith winked. "The crying, traumatized version? That was me having a nine-hundred-year-old breakdown. This?" She gestured to herself. "This is who I actually am when I'm not being tortured by cosmic duty."

She suddenly became serious, though the joy never left her eyes.

She moved to his couch and draped herself across it with casual elegance, patting the cushion beside her.

"Come. Sit. Let me explain your rewards. You're about to find out just how much the universe appreciates integrity."

Alex hesitated, then sat beside her, maintaining a careful distance. Lilith noticed and her smile turned teasing.

"Oh, don't worry, darling. I'm not going to seduce you." She paused. "Unless you ask very nicely."
