Sun Wukong returned to Huaguo Mountain just as Lord Lao Zi of the Great Monad descended to the mortal realm.
"You're still upset about the Flat Peach Tree incident?"
Seated on his azure ox, Lord Lao Zi said to him, "It's just a single Flat Peach Tree. You can just go and ask the God of Longevity for another."
Sun Wukong shook his head, he wasn't that petty, and had stopped being angry once he'd left the Immortal Peach Orchard.
But having watered that Flat Peach Tree with Jade Liquid for four straight days, seeing it chopped down still brought a sense of loss.
Time was so undervalued in heaven, Sun Wukong began to miss home.
The first thing Lord Lao Zi did when he descended was to head to the Daoist Temple.
Sun Wukong followed as well; he returned to Huaguo Mountain every year, mainly to gather some food, and he was curious about how Zhang Liang's alchemy practice had progressed.
The two arrived at the entrance of the Daoist Temple.
"Great King."
Zhang Liang came out to greet them, first bowing to Sun Wukong, then paying his respects to Lord Lao Zi.
"I'm going to stay here for another year."
Lord Lao Zi smiled and said, "Having left for over a decade, your cultivation has indeed advanced significantly."
Sun Wukong also noticed that Zhang Liang's cultivation had greatly improved; it might not take long before he would achieve immortality.
"It's all thanks to the Great King's guidance."
Zhang Liang replied, "Over the years we've made some medical elixirs, earning considerable merit, which has made cultivation much easier."
"Medical elixirs?"
Curiosity piqued, Lord Lao Zi said, "Take me in to see them; what kind of medical elixirs have you made?"
Zhang Liang dared not hesitate and led the two into the Daoist Temple.
"This is Fire Removal Pills."
Zhang Liang introduced them to the best-selling elixir, "These are quite simple to produce, even the Kingdom of Aolai can mass-produce them at a reasonable price. There are many merchants placing orders every year."
Lord Lao Zi examined the Fire Removal Pills for a moment: "This is quite trivial."
So-called Fire Removal Pills were not for extinguishing fire but for expelling internal heat, that is, to alleviate internal inflammation.
Such remedies have long been known among the folk; Fire Removal Pills were simply a combination of traditional herbal medicine, nothing remarkable.
"We have even better elixirs."
Zhang Liang no longer spoke of the more common elixirs, instead he had someone brought over a calabash filled with red pills.
"This is Smallpox Elixir. After six years of research, we finally produced it."
Zhang Liang said, "Although they're expensive and produced in limited quantities, once consumed, one will not contract smallpox."
"Smallpox?"
Lord Lao Zi's expression became solemn as he carefully examined the elixir.
"So, it is a kind of vaccination..."
He was greatly surprised: "No wonder the quantity is limited."
Sun Wukong too was astonished.
Smallpox was an epidemic that had plagued humanity for thousands of years. Had Zhang Liang and his colleagues really found a preventative method?
He took the Smallpox Elixir and looked at it, finding it somewhat unbelievable.
Zhang Liang continued to introduce other elixirs. While none were as astonishing as the Smallpox Elixir, in the fifteen years, they had managed to create one or two medical elixirs each year.
Ten of these formulas had already been introduced to the Kingdom of Aolai, where production was quite significant.
"Our elixirs are now being sold across the Four Great Continents, in high demand."
Zhang Liang announced.
Sun Wukong once again experienced the time disparity between immortals and mortals.
"It's incredible, in just over ten days, Huaguo Mountain has advanced so much."
Lord Lao Zi's face showed his admiration, "It seems like I need to descend every so often to check on things."
Sun Wukong nodded.
Afterward, Lord Lao Zi stayed in the Daoist Temple to discuss alchemy with Zhang Liang, while Sun Wukong was taken back to Yunxiao City by Ao Luan.
"I could have just eaten at the Daoist Temple."
Sun Wukong said.
"No." Ao Luan held onto him, refusing to let go, "Elder brother only comes back once a year, you must spend time with everyone."
Sun Wukong shook his head, then suddenly noticed a glowing colossal object at the harbor of Yunxiao City.
He stopped in midair, unmoved by Ao Luan's tugging.
"Ao Luan, what is that?"
Sun Wukong pointed towards the thing at the harbor.
Ao Luan took a glance: "A Floating Spaceship."
"Spaceship?"
Sun Wukong looked at the spaceship hovering in midair.
This spaceship spread its sails resembling goose feathers in grayish-white, with runes that glimmered with light. It floated outside the harbor motionlessly, like a beautiful statue.
"The Floating Spaceship, it's been a success?"
Sun Wukong asked in surprise; before he ascended to heaven, this kind of ship was still a prototype, far from being this beautiful and refined.
"This is already the second generation."
Ao Luan replied: "We've equipped it with an Immortal Stone; it can leave Huaguo Mountain's Spiritual Network for a brief period."
As if responding to her, the roar of departure sounded from the spaceship, with the runes gradually lighting up, tracing out a huge fox flag.
Sun Wukong knew without asking whose fox that was.
He watched the spaceship, with ripples of air expanding around it. Under the buoyancy of those ripples, the spaceship gradually turned and moved away from the harbor.
Then, the spaceship, like a giant whale aglow with lights, went far away.
Sun Wukong witnessed the departure of the spaceship, leaving behind only a fading trail in the sky.
"Where is it going?"
Sun Wukong asked.
"The Kingdom of Aolai."
Ao Luan replied: "Its farthest travel distance right now is to the Kingdom of Aolai."
Sun Wukong clenched his fists slightly.
Fifteen days, he only stayed in the sky for fifteen days, three hundred sixty hours—yet in Huaguo Mountain, the demons had completed the development of two generations of spaceships.
"I want to go home."
Suddenly, Sun Wukong spoke.
He no longer wanted to waste time in the Heavenly Palace; a few years there would be enough for him to bring about the 21st century.
"Are you serious, elder brother?"
On hearing Sun Wukong's desire to return home, Ao Luan naturally couldn't contain her joy.
But then she became worried: "Will the immortals in the Heavenly Palace object?"
"No."
Sun Wukong shook his head. A few, like Tota Li Heavenly King, might oppose.
But the other immortals were well acquainted with him; they wouldn't object to his returning to Huaguo Mountain to manage affairs.
The only concern was the Jade Emperor.
"I need to ascend to report to the Jade Emperor."
Sun Wukong said to Ao Luan: "When I come back, I want to set a development plan for the next twenty years for Huaguo Mountain."
Ao Luan nodded happily.
Sun Wukong then took out an Immortal Peach: "These Immortal Peaches were brought from heaven, originally intended for The Three Pure Ones and Four Emperors. Since they've been slightly bruised and the appearance isn't good, they can't be presented."
He handed the Immortal Peach to Ao Luan: "Eating one of these Immortal Peaches can keep you forever young and grant immortality. Pick a good one for yourself, and the rest, you can decide who to give them to."
Ao Luan nodded, joyfully accepting the Immortal Peaches.
Sun Wukong no longer had the appetite for food, he bid farewell to Ao Luan, turned into a golden light, and flew towards the South Heavenly Gate.
He flew past the Floating Spaceship, casting a glance at the demons bustling on the deck.
"Great King!"
"It's the Great King!"
The demons recognized him and saluted in his direction.
The desire to return home had never been so strong for Sun Wukong.
