After the Western Continent had settled down, Sun Wukong put one worry behind him.
But he soon found that Ao Luan seemed somewhat downcast.
"What's wrong with you?"
He couldn't help but look for her and ask.
Ao Luan hesitated for a moment but replied, "I haven't been of help to my brother."
She was neglectful and bore direct responsibility for the problems that arose with the Golden Path.
After discovering the issue, Ao Luan thought the trouble with the Golden Path would be extremely difficult to deal with.
But to her astonishment, Sun Wukong resolved it effortlessly.
This filled Ao Luan with joy, but also struck her a blow.
"I still need to be more diligent in my work."
Ao Luan said.
"You are already very diligent."
Sun Wukong shook his head and said, "Being too diligent isn't always good, like making noodles..."
"No way!"
Ao Luan puffed up her cheeks: "I've already stopped doing that."
After realizing Sun Wukong truly didn't like the noodles she made, Ao Luan never made them for him again.
"Really?"
Sun Wukong looked skeptical: "Why have I heard that you're still making them?"
"Not at all!"
Ao Luan snorted coldly: "How is your reading of the book going?"
She changed the subject.
The book Sun Wukong was reading was the Talismanic Diagrams and Records; he had been studying it for half a year.
"I can understand some of it now."
Sun Wukong nodded, "But it might take me some years to read through it."
Ao Luan was slightly startled: "What does brother want to do?"
"I'm going to the Eastern Victory Divine Continent."
Sun Wukong answered.
He didn't know when the Jade Emperor would return and couldn't miss this golden opportunity.
"You want to see the Heavenly Book?" Ao Luan understood and felt concerned: "That's too dangerous, must you go there personally?"
"No one can replace me."
Sun Wukong replied, only he knew what knowledge he needed.
"Don't worry."
Seeing Ao Luan's full face of worry, Sun Wukong couldn't help but smile: "I will stay in the Wanling Hall and use divine skills to cross the sea undetected."
Ao Luan was surprised: "What divine skill is so powerful?"
Sun Wukong replied with an idiom.
"To dream of butterflies as Zhuangzi."
In Wanling City, after night falls, every street is brilliantly lit.
"Thank you for your patronage."
The Rabbit Demon was sending off a regular customer from the tavern.
"No thanks needed."
Marshal Tian Peng waved his hand and patted his belly.
"Life here is truly comfortable."
He thought to himself.
What on earth were all those past days I've been through? Wanling Country has food and drink and isn't bound by so many Heavenly Rules; this place is the real Heavenly Palace!
Marshal Tian Peng's gaze was stolen by the demonesses all over the streets.
These demonesses were so beautiful, and Wanling Country didn't prohibit romance; they even encourage immortals to find partners, which was exactly what Marshal Tian Peng had dreamed of.
"I'm quite settled in here."
Marshal Tian Peng thought contentedly: "After eating for another two months, I should start looking for a partner."
"Marshal, Marshal!"
A Heavenly General descended from the sky and found Marshal Tian Peng.
"Oh, it's you."
Marshal Tian Peng glanced over, it was his sergeant at arms and instructor from the River of Heaven.
He waved his hand: "I'm on vacation these couple of days, don't come to me with work."
This vacation system in Wanling Country really suited his taste!
"Marshal."
The Heavenly General saluted and said: "Emperor Donghua has sent someone looking for you, wishing to invite you and the Emperor to go to the Kingdom of Chechi and persuade those immortals to come over."
Only then did Marshal Tian Peng remember that it had already been half a year since he arrived in Wanling Country.
"The days are flying by so fast."
Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy mused to himself, "Indeed, one really should find a partner."
The Heavenly General noticed that the Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy was absent-minded and thus added another remark, "Marshal, Emperor Donghua is not eloquent, please give him some help!"
"That's not a lack of eloquence."
Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy replied, "He must be a mute."
"Marshal, how can you speak like that!"
The Heavenly General was startled, looking around anxiously.
"What's there to be afraid of?" Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy was dismissive, "Wanling Country doesn't operate the same as the Heavenly Palace; we don't bother with those hollow courtesies. I'll say what I want – what's he going to do, eat me?"
The Heavenly General was left agape with awe. The Marshal was indeed a Marshal, quickly getting a grasp of the local ways.
"I can help, but why me?"
Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy continued to query.
The Heavenly General looked up and down at Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy and said, "No one is more convincing than the Marshal."
"Really?"
Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy seemed pleased, "My eloquence is indeed not bad, but I don't work for free."
"Rest assured, Marshal."
The Heavenly General leaned into Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy's ear and whispered a few words.
"What! You're offering me a demoness?"
Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy immediately perked up, "I misspoke earlier; Emperor Donghua isn't a mute, he's my dear dad!"
The Heavenly General really wanted to pretend he didn't know this Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy.
The next day, Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy followed Emperor Donghua to the Kingdom of Chechi.
On the wastelands, the Immortals were still trapped inside the Barrier.
"Gentlemen."
Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy, feeling a bit of sympathy for these poor fellows, spoke up, "Half a year has passed. Emperor has sent me to ask you again – are you willing to register as Immortals of Wanling Country?"
"I'm willing, willing!"
Some of the impatient Immortals nodded immediately.
But many other Immortals simply huffed disdainfully, sat down cross-legged, and started meditating.
"Stop pretending."
Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy said, "I could see you counting sand out of boredom from afar, so why pretend to meditate!"
Sweat broke out on the faces of the Immortals, but they continued their meditation.
"Emperor, it's no use. This is all we've got."
Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy turned and reported to Emperor Donghua.
Emperor Donghua frowned slightly and gave Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy a look.
"Don't glare at me."
Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy immediately spoke up, "Although I am the Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy, I don't have authority over them."
"What!"
Right after he finished speaking, a surge of astonished exclamations arose from the ground.
"You're the Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy?"
"How did you end up like this!"
Many of the meditating Immortals opened their eyes wide, shouting in shock.
Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy turned around, "What do you mean 'end up like this'?"
The Immortals immediately shut their mouths.
"We are willing to register now, Emperor."
The majority of the meditating Immortals changed their minds and said to the Emperor.
The Emperor showed a smile in his eyes and nodded.
He distributed the Immortal Records, the Immortals signed their names, and the surrounding Barrier immediately vanished.
The newly freed Immortals were ecstatic and began moving their limbs, unable to express their joy.
Emperor Donghua took a look and saw that only a few hundred Immortals who had not signed were left, not many at all.
He was right in his choice; the persuasive power of Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy was strong.
A moment later, the Immortals all flew towards Wanling City together.
"Marshal."
On their way, they couldn't help but ask Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy, "Does Wanling Country really have a lot of delicious foods?"
"Of course."
Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy nodded, "How did you know?"
"We could tell at a glance."
The Immortals quickly responded.
Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy had grown rotund as a round ball, completely different from his past self, a clear sign he had a good life in Wanling Country.
Wanling Country had fattened him up so much; it was bound to be way better than the wilderness.
