The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 241: Change

Early in the morning, Immortals were everywhere hunting down Qing Yuanzi.

"That guy has ruined my reputation!"

"Quick, find him!"

"This time, we must slaughter him!"

After searching all morning, the Immortals finally found Qing Yuanzi in Mountain and Sea City.

"Ladies and Gentlemen Immortals, please don't be rash."

Daji blocked in front of Qing Yuanzi and said, "It was just a joke, why make such a fuss over it."

"He called me a Water Bowl!"

Water Virtues Star Monarch said angrily.

"My mother is not a hen!"

Star Monarch of the Beaming Sun sneered.

"Ladies and Gentlemen…"

Daji was somewhat embarrassed.

She saw another person flying in from the sky and quickly called out, "Great Emperor, come over here!"

The True Martial Great Emperor descended.

"What is all this commotion about?"

He asked the assembly of Immortals.

"Great Emperor."

The Immortals still fuming, Water Virtues Star Monarch stepped forward and said, "Qing Yuanzi called you the Black Tortoise Great Emperor."

The True Martial Great Emperor nodded, "So what?"

He indeed had a title known as the Black Tortoise Great Emperor.

"Great Emperor." Water Virtues Star Monarch continued, "Have you ever heard about the millennium-old turtle demon on Wudang Mountain?"

The True Martial Great Emperor's expression shifted slightly.

The next moment, Qing Yuanzi was shackled, awaiting the decision of death.

"This Qing Yuanzi deserves to die!"

Immortal Zhenyuan picked up a copper coin and said, "But since Heaven has the virtue of nurturing life, let's give him one more chance. Heads for burning, tails for drowning."

All the Immortals nodded in agreement, with no objections.

Immortal Zhenyuan tossed the copper coin into the air, where it spun several times before landing on the ground, standing on its edge.

The Immortals took a sharp intake of breath, then turned to look at Qing Yuanzi.

"Does that mean I'm off the hook?"

Qing Yuanzi, looking at the copper coin on the ground, asked excitedly.

"…It's standing upright."

Immortal Zhenyuan frowned slightly, then said, "This means you cannot escape the sin of being alive."

Immediately he summoned the Spider Demons, with a kind smile, "You know what to do, right?"

"We know!"

Seven Spider Demons bound Qing Yuanzi with their silk, excitedly lifted him and left.

In the morning, Sun Wukong arrived at the Spiritual Network test site and saw seven Spider Demons flinging Qing Yuanzi back and forth with their threads.

"Are they playing… yo-yo?"

Sun Wukong asked in puzzlement.

"That's called a diabolo."

Immortal Zhenyuan replied.

However, be it yo-yo or diabolo, Sun Wukong thought Qing Yuanzi's situation was pretty miserable.

But it was his own fault, so he couldn't blame anyone else.

Sun Wukong didn't bother with Qing Yuanzi and started discussing the Spiritual Network with Immortal Zhenyuan.

After a day's worth of research, they hadn't made much progress.

Luckily, beyond the Spiritual Network, they were also experimenting with an interesting object.

It was a flying vehicle shaped like a bird.

"The new model is just so cool!"

Immortal Zhenyuan fondly touched the body of the flying vehicle.

The brand-new, glossy Rune body was streamlined and shiny like a mirror, reflecting the figure of a person.

"How's the thrust?"

Sun Wukong asked, "Did it meet the expected standards?"

"Just finished making it, haven't tested it yet."

Immortal Zhenyuan waved towards someone in the distance, "General Guo Shen."

General Guo Shen immediately ran over.

"Try out this flying vehicle."

Immortal Zhenyuan said.

"Okay!"

General Guo Shen nodded and climbed into the flying vehicle.

In a matter of moments, amidst intense trembling, the flying vehicle roared off with a "rumble"!

"Such a large degree of vibration?"

Sun Wukong asked in surprise, "Did you modify something else?"

"Impossible, I just changed the control method a bit."

Immortal Zhenyuan said, "It should be more stable now."

"Did you teach General Guo Shen?"

"…Damn."

Immortal Zhenyuan's expression changed: "I forgot."

He immediately chased after the cart,

"General Guo Shen, put down my cart!"

Seeing this scene, Sun Wukong couldn't help but smile bitterly.

From a distance, the young man quietly watched this scene.

"He won't come with me anymore."

Thinking this, the youth jumped down from the tree and walked into Wanling City.

Walking among the bustling traffic, he saw things he had never seen before.

"So this is Wanling City."

The youth toured the city, filled with wonder in his heart.

Compared to what the Immortals had created with their Three Thousand Immortal Paths, the demons and mortals here had indeed created something different.

Wu Xiang couldn't possibly return with him now.

The youth knew in his heart that Wanling Country was where Wu Xiang's talents could truly shine.

"Well, let him stay here for now."

The youth kept walking, telling himself this.

In a few decades, he would have ways to make Wu Xiang return.

"Give me a jug of wine."

The youth bought a jug of wine on the street and disappeared with a turn.

With a single step, he traversed mountains and rivers.

In the West Sea, the youth appeared before Sun Wukong.

"Did you get it?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"Here."

The Jade Emperor handed him the wine jug, then sat down beside him on the beach.

Sun Wukong conjured two cups and poured them full of wine.

"How is Wanling Country?"

He asked.

"Not bad."

The Jade Emperor replied indifferently.

That was an understatement; it was undoubtedly the most prosperous place among the Four Great Continents.

"I finally understand what you have been pursuing all this time."

Taking the cup Sun Wukong handed him, the Jade Emperor said, "A world like this isn't so bad after all."

Sun Wukong smiled: "You could learn it."

"Without you, I couldn't."

The Jade Emperor shook his head: "And you won't return the Jade Seal to me anymore, will you?"

Sun Wukong finished his cup of wine.

"I've already taken this step; I can't possibly hand it over now."

He said.

Sun Wukong didn't despise the Jade Emperor, but now that fate was in his own hands, he wouldn't hand it over to someone else.

"Hahaha…"

The Jade Emperor shook his head: "What a pity."

If he had seen Wanling Country a hundred years earlier, maybe things would be different now.

The Jade Emperor and Sun Wukong sat together drinking, their gaze extending into the distance where sky and sea met on the horizon. He and Sun Wukong, like the sky and the sea, would someday merge into one.

But, that was not now.

After finishing the last cup of wine, the Jade Emperor tossed the cup onto the sea's surface.

"The Heavenly Dao is unpredictable, but a battle between us seems inevitable."

He began to laugh slowly: "If you win, I will concede and cede the Three Realms to you — I won't let them fall to Buddha!"

Sun Wukong smiled slightly: "I will win."

"That is not certain."

The Jade Emperor gave Sun Wukong a glance.

"In terms of scheming, I am no match for Buddha, but you are still a step behind me."

He rose to his full height and departed with a sweep of his sleeves: "Imperial Brother, you must show no mercy from now on!"

After the Jade Emperor left, Sun Wukong also discarded his wine cup.

"He is indeed formidable."

Despite just a meeting, the Jade Emperor's aura was not inferior to his.

The Jade Emperor also had pursuits and things he had to protect.

Those Three Thousand Immortal Paths, all converged in him.

This is change.

Sun Wukong raised his head, observing the myriad spells illuminating the sky.

He reached out his hand, and countless characters fell down.

He, too, was welcoming change.
