The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 28: Nodes and Hemostatic Grass

Sun Wukong and Immortal Zhenyuan floated outside the pitch-black canyon, with a shimmering wall of water interlaced above the entire gorge, illuminating both of their faces.

"How about this?"

Immortal Zhenyuan looked at the water wall and said with satisfaction, "Not bad, huh?"

Sun Wukong slapped his forehead. "Immortal, you dragged me here in the dead of night just for the appearance? I think the Barrier's appearance doesn't need to be changed anymore!"

"Uhm... let's leave it like this for now!"

Immortal Zhenyuan's response left Sun Wukong feeling a bit powerless.

This Immortal was good in all respects, but for some reason, he was extremely concerned about the appearance of the Barrier, always wanting to modify it every few days.

Sun Wukong landed on the ground, swept away the leaves with a wave of his hand, revealing the rocks underneath.

"I've finished planning the Nodes for Huaguo Mountain."

He placed a map on the rock, and Immortal Zhenyuan came over to look, nodding repeatedly: "Arranging the Nodes in the Eight Diagrams pattern, good idea."

Sun Wukong said, "We can start tomorrow."

"Tomorrow?" Immortal Zhenyuan was somewhat surprised. "Isn't that too soon?"

"Not at all."

Sun Wukong put away the map and said, "Our research has hit a bottleneck, it's better to clear the Nodes first, and then continue the research."

He felt that until they actually began creating the Nodes, they wouldn't be able to identify many of the problems that would arise in practice.

Immortal Zhenyuan frowned: "But what Magical Treasure will you use to suppress the Nodes?"

To maintain such a large Barrier, of course, many Heaven and Earth Treasures were needed—the Spiritual Network was a complex Spiritual Energy network, and the Nodes were the hubs for Spiritual Power to converge and connect. However, Immortal Zhenyuan had never seen Sun Wukong seeking treasures to store Spiritual Energy.

"I have a way."

Sun Wukong plucked out a few Monkey Hairs, blew on them, and they transformed into several Immortal Stones.

"How about these stones?"

Sun Wukong asked Immortal Zhenyuan.

Immortal Zhenyuan touched the Immortal Stones; each one could be considered a genuine Immortal Stone— he couldn't help looking Sun Wukong over from head to toe.

"Wise Brother, your hair is this powerful?"

"It's just a minor trick."

Sun Wukong replied, each strand of hair on his body could transform, and turning into Immortal Stones was not difficult for him.

Besides, he himself was born from an Immortal Stone, transforming into an Immortal Stone was even simpler than transforming into a Monkey Spirit.

"Can these Immortal Stones serve as the Nodes?"

Sun Wukong asked.

Immortal Zhenyuan checked them: "No, they need to be refined further."

Sun Wukong furrowed his brow, then plucked another hair from the back of his head, transformed it into an Immortal Stone, and asked, "What about this stone?"

"That will do," Immortal Zhenyuan said in amazement, looking at the Immortal Stone: "Wise Brother, how come the hair on your head is more powerful than the hair on your body?"

Sun Wukong retrieved the hair and said, "I specially cultivated it to serve as a Magical Treasure."

He had hoped to cultivate three life-saving Monkey Hairs on his head, but unfortunately, he hadn't succeeded yet.

Immortal Zhenyuan clicked his tongue in wonder; no wonder the Wise Brother never transformed into human form—it turns out every hair on his body was a treasure!

After dawn, the two began setting up the Nodes.

Each Node required meticulous design to ensure it couldn't be destroyed by outsiders.

Sun Wukong planned to establish 72 Nodes; with Huaguo Mountain's 72 caves, each Demon Clan would guard one Node.

The Nodes could provide plentiful Spiritual Energy for the demons, and the Node network was very complex; even if part was destroyed, it wouldn't affect the operation of the entire Barrier.

This was a project that lasted several years.

During this time, Zhang Liang left Huaguo Mountain for the trade of Hemostatic Grass.

Like Spiritual Objects, the Hemostatic Grass was regarded as an inconsequential item by the Immortals.

Yet, this Herbal Medicine caused a great stir in the Human Clan's world.

Every major nation wanted to monopolize the trade of Hemostatic Grass, including the Han Dynasty of the Southern Continent.

At this time, the ruler of the largest nation of the Human Clan was named Lv Zhi, who after the death of the Emperor Gaozu, killed many meritorious officials and seized power for herself.

Zhang Liang was one of the rare meritorious officials who was not purged. Having left the imperial court in his earlier years to cultivate at Huaguo Mountain, his relationship with Empress Lv remained relatively amicable.

Empress Lv called him back and asked, "I want to purchase all the herb seeds from Huaguo Mountain, do you think it's feasible?"

Zhang Liang was prepared and quickly shook his head: "It's not possible, the vitality of Hemostatic Grass cannot be monopolized."

What he said was also the truth, after several cultivations by the demons, the growth capability of the Hemostatic Grass was now much like that of wild weeds, it could grow everywhere.

Even if the Han Dynasty monopolized the herb seeds, in a few years, Hemostatic Grass would still proliferate.

Lv Zhi felt it was a pity: "Such a shame for this miraculous herb!"

"Such a minor thing for stopping bleeding, why should you care so much."

Zhang Liang said.

Lv Zhi laughed: "Zhang Liang, you have become an Immortal, but you've forgotten that I am still a mortal."

She looked at the Hemostatic Grass with a multitude of feelings: "You don't know how many people this herb can save."

Although in the eyes of the people, Lv Zhi was not a good person, but like Emperor Gaozu, she still loved this land that they had worked so hard to conquer.

A gleam shone in Lv Zhi's eyes.

"I will issue an order to plant Hemostatic Grass everywhere."

She spoke thus: "Emperor Gaozu once made the people learn 'Heavenly Craftsmanship,' allowing our Han Dynasty to prosper, I cannot lose to him."

Zhang Liang paid his respects full of admiration.

When leaving the Imperial Palace, Zhang Liang saw his youngest son, who was serving there.

"Do you want to accompany me?"

He asked.

The youth shook his head: "Father is wholeheartedly pursuing the path of cultivation, while I am dull-witted, it is better for me to stay here."

"Very well!"

Zhang Liang nodded, then turned his head back to look at the Imperial Palace, sighing in his heart.

Empress Lv was not a completely terrible ruler, however, the worldly struggle for power and political intrigue, how complicated and dangerous it is.

In comparison, Zhang Liang realized that Huaguo Mountain was indeed a rare paradise.

He left Chang'an, and with his departure, his heart also left.

And with Empress Lv's promotion, Hemostatic Grass blossomed everywhere on the Southern Continent, soon becoming uncontrollable, causing nations of mankind one after another to follow suit.

Human bodies are mortal; who doesn't have bruises and injuries? The value of Hemostatic Grass is far more than gold!

However, after the spread of the herbal medicine, the seeds became inexpensive, every household could cultivate them, there was not a single person who did not sing praises, and the name of the Wise Monkey of Huaguo Mountain spread even further.

In the Northern Continent, an old man with white temples recognized the value of Hemostatic Grass and led his only grandson on a long journey to Huaguo Mountain.

"Grandpa, what are you going to do at Huaguo Mountain?"

The only grandson asked.

"I'm going to ask that Wise Monkey," the old man stroked his grandson's head: "to help me complete the Hundred Herbs Scripture."

The Hundred Herbs Scripture was a medical book; since the old man had seen 'Heavenly Craftsmanship' ten years ago, he had wanted to compile an encyclopedia of medicine.

Yet, after ten years of researching ancient texts, resolving doubts, and editing diligently—he had only completed a tiny fraction.

He couldn't finish the book by himself.

"When I saw the Hemostatic Grass, I realized the Wise Monkey is quite knowledgeable about medicine."

The old man sighed, originally thinking the Wise Monkey only cared about craftsmanship, but he hadn't expected him to also cultivate Hemostatic Grass: "I should entrust him to complete the Hundred Herbs Scripture."

"But..."

The only grandson was a bit curious: "Will he agree?"

"If he truly is the Wise Monkey..."

The old man said: "Then he will surely agree."
