To the west of Bai Chi Country, a turmoil was coalescing.
The King arrested a group of rebellious officials and demanded, "Why do you betray me?"
"Your Majesty, it's a fortunate event for our Human Clan that anyone in Wanling Country can cast Spells."
One official replied, "We should welcome this."
"The Heavenly Emperor governs the Three Realms, why bother resisting, Your Majesty?"
Another official spoke as well, "This is the prevailing tide, futile to resist like a mantis trying to stop a chariot."
All those who were in the know understood that it was impossible for mortals to resist the allure of power.
Once the inherently weak mortals gained such power, who would care about your mundane royal authority? With a single call from the Heavenly Emperor, responders would echo through the heavens.
It was only a matter of time before the Heavenly Emperor would take control of the Northern Continent.
What talents of governance? With the seduction of power, there's no need to search; they will actively offer aid.
"We cannot withstand the great momentum of the Heavenly Dao."
The officials said.
"How audacious!"
The Military Officer by the King's side trembled with rage:
"Your Majesty, don't listen to their beguiling words, they are simply afraid!"
To the Military Officer, rebelling against the Heavenly Emperor was a symbol of courage – those officials were oppositional from the start, and now they've all come forward.
"Your Majesty, I suggest we execute them immediately!"
The Military Officer bowed and said, "If not executed, allowing them to spread rumors will invite more trouble."
"You make a good point."
The King's expression chilled as he declared, "Drag them out for public display for a day, and execute them at noon tomorrow."
He had the group of officials taken away, then suddenly felt a sense of weariness.
The sudden crisis made the King ponder in silence, prompting him to rest ahead of time.
Come evening, just as the King had dozed off, someone burst into the bedroom.
The King was furious, but upon rising, he saw it was his most trusted Military Officer.
"What is it?"
The King asked, holding back his anger.
"Yo-Your Majesty..."
The Military Officer's voice faltered, "The Crown Prince has rebelled!"
The King was shocked. He dressed and stepped out of the bedroom, only to see the Crown Prince, clutching a long spear, had already surrounded the place with his followers.
Those same officials from earlier stood behind him.
"You... you..."
Outraged, the King spat, "Unfilial son, what are you doing?"
"Father, you are stubborn and unyielding, and so I had to revolt," said the Crown Prince. "If I don't, others will rebel in the future!"
The King took a sharp breath and looked around, as sure enough, under the illumination of the lamps, the officials and rebels had eyes like ferocious beasts, exuding a chilling determination.
"What exactly happened?" asked the King.
The Crown Prince did not answer, but simply stretched out his hand, from which flames emerged.
"Father," said the Crown Prince. "What use is power in the face of this force?"
The King resented what the Crown Prince yearned for.
"I am still young," said the Crown Prince. "If I pledge allegiance to the Heavenly Emperor, perhaps in the future I might cultivate into an Immortal."
The gleam in his eyes was as fervent as the other officials, yet even more intense.
"It's over," the King silently conceded, relinquishing his resistance as he realized the tide had turned.
Not long after, the nascent rays of the dawn sun spilled over the Royal Palace.
A flying ship hovered above the Palace, and The Immortal of Colossal Spirit descended from the ship as the Prince and his followers knelt.
"From this day forth, you are all citizens of my Wanling," declared The Immortal of Colossal Spirit in a heavy tone. "As citizens of Wanling, you shall not be bound by Immortals or Buddhas. Your merits will be rewarded in time, beginning with the bestowal of an Immortal Pill."
He clapped his hands, and immediately a demoness carrying the Immortal Pill walked over.
The officials picked up the Immortal Pills and swallowed them, feeling infirmities gradually dissipating from within and their bodies rejuvenating considerably.
The Crown Prince's Immortal Pill was particularly unique; after swallowing one, dark energy flew out of his body.
But in the blink of an eye, the dark energy vanished, and the Crown Prince felt light and refreshed, waving his long spear without the heaviness of the past days.
"This is indeed an Immortal Pill!"
Overjoyed, the Crown Prince hurriedly led the officials to give thanks.
The Immortal of Colossal Spirit nodded and turned to the demons, saying, "Raise the flag of Wanling Country."
A flag with yellow borders and sacred characters was hung on the city wall.
The flag was grand and splendid, shimmering like the morning sun under its light.
In the Northern Continent, countless people saw the rise of this flag and knelt on the ground filled with excitement.
"Heavenly Emperor, Heavenly Emperor!"
The people were shouting.
Golden light illuminated the vast land, sketching out an enormous Wanling pattern.
"Power is the eternal pursuit of mankind."
At the edge of the vast land, Sun Wukong quietly gazed towards the North Sea and said: "Even kings and generals cannot escape it."
He was well aware that once weak humans had the chance to gain power, they would spark astonishing flames.
"Great Venerable..."
A cursed Immortal woman knelt behind Wukong, hesitated for a moment, and asked, "Why grant mortals power?"
"It wasn't me who granted it."
Wukong replied: "Just as sunlight enables grass and trees to grow, so too does the Heavenly Dao's natural nature lie beyond my control."
Although he was the embodiment of Wanling Heavenly Dao, he was unable to change the attributes of the Heavenly Dao, as well as its desire to erode the Three Realms.
The progress of Wanling Heavenly Dao had already surpassed many people's understanding.
"Heavenly Dao is unlike the Immortal Dao."
Wukong added: "Heavenly Dao is the manifestation of rules; it is becoming more mature, and someday everyone will be as dragons, integrating mortals and Immortals."
"How can mortals and Immortals integrate?"
Another voice contradicted Wukong: "The separation between mortals and Immortals should be eternal!"
It was Buddha's voice.
When this voice sounded, the Immortal woman seemed to have time stand still around her, her body imprisoned, unable to move.
"Sun Wukong."
Buddha asked in a solemn voice, "What exactly have you done?"
"Just a tuning nothing more."
Wukong turned around, looking at Buddha's incarnation.
"Buddha knows all things, so naturally understands that I had to make some adjustments to the Heavenly Dao."
Buddha's brow slightly furrowed.
Wukong was right; even if he hadn't left Huaguo Mountain, and the Heavenly Dao continued to spread in the Northern Continent, it could still empower mortals to cast Spells.
Wukong's purpose in coming here was to organize the Heavenly Dao; he tuned it along the way, making it softer and easier for mortals to master.
Otherwise, if mortals forcibly used the Heavenly Dao, the consequences would be unimaginable.
But Buddha, although he understood, still could not agree with Wukong.
"You should abandon the Heavenly Dao."
Buddha said: "All humans have desires; they should be guided, but Wanling Heavenly Dao is stirring up people's minds."
Wukong shook his head: "Buddha liberates all beings, seeking inner peace, while I, want to witness the future."
Buddha finally understood, "We have no common ground."
The denier of desire, and the affirmer of desire.
From this moment, Buddha made up his mind that only one between himself and Wukong could maintain the orthodox tradition.
"My Buddhist sect will enter the world soon, and I will prevent you."
Buddha said.
"Isn't it very interesting?"
A chill flashed in Wukong's eyes as he replied: "You have the Pure Land Sect, I have the Heavenly Taoist Sect, let's see how the world chooses."
Buddha's body trembled, scrutinizing Wukong carefully.
Indeed...
There was another existence within Wukong's body.
