The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 399: The Final War

However, even the most entertaining games sometimes lose their charm, and Daji soon grew restless.

The enlightenment regarding cultivation aspects discussed by Buddha meant nothing to her; her true cultivation relied on her original heart, and Buddhist scriptures would only confuse her original heart and were thus useless to her.

Daji's eyes darted around as she noticed everyone listening intently, then she quietly left her seat, transformed into a small fox, and flew out of the assembly hall.

Sun Wukong noticed her actions.

He surreptitiously calculated with his fingers and figured that Daji wouldn't go too far, so he let her be.

After leaving the assembly hall, the small fox that Daji had transformed into saw two massive pillars.

In front and behind the pillars were peach trees with branches bending under the weight of their fruit, the fragrance of peaches filling the air.

"The Great King would probably love to eat these."

Thinking so, Daji decided to climb the tree and pick some peaches.

Suddenly, from beneath the peach tree, a three-meter-long scorpion burst out.

Daji was startled.

The Scorpion Demoness gave her a glance and then, avoiding the guarding monks, ran towards the assembly hall.

"Ah, I remember now."

Daji suddenly recalled that she seemed to have seen this scorpion in the mini world.

"Hey, stop running."

Daji chased after it and said, "Are you from Wanling Country? Why don't you come back to Huaguo Mountain with me?"

The Scorpion Demoness did not stop moving.

"Do you know about Wanling Country?"

Daji called out loudly.

The Scorpion Demoness turned to look at her once more before continuing to rush forward.

It ran all the way into the assembly hall and disappeared into the clouds.

Daji searched around several times but couldn't find it and had to give up.

Another day passed, and Daji saw that an Auspicious Cloud near Buddha was dispersed by the wind, revealing something familiar.

It was the Scorpion Demoness.

It was hiding in the clouds, seemingly engrossed in listening to the scripture, completely unaware that it had been exposed.

"Run quickly."

Daji thought to herself, if the Scorpion Demoness were to be discovered, it would be doomed.

Yet Buddha noticed it right away.

As he continued to lecture, he casually attempted to swat away the Scorpion Demoness. The Scorpion Demoness, realizing what was happening, felt a great shock and hooked its tail onto Buddha's hand in alarm.

Buddha exclaimed in surprise and withdrew his hand.

He stopped his lecture.

"How dare you!"

Aghast and filled with rage, Ao Luan and Jia Ye saw the Scorpion Demoness harm Buddha.

They extended their hands to strike at the Scorpion Demoness.

At that moment, Sun Wukong suddenly spoke.

"Come here."

Before the Scorpion Demoness could react, it was grabbed by an invisible hand and whisked away from Buddha's side, landing at Sun Wukong's feet.

The Scorpion Demoness, who had narrowly escaped, was dripping with cold sweat and quickly prostrated itself, thanking Sun Wukong repeatedly.

"So, you are the catalyst."

Wukong looked at the Scorpion Demoness with a tinge of emotion.

Lady Earth Flow had told him that this Scorpion Demoness was still in Lingshan, suggesting he help it if the opportunity arose. Sun Wukong did not expect to encounter it under these circumstances.

"Get in."

Wukong opened his sleeve, and the Scorpion Demoness willingly crawled over and into his cuff.

"Sun Wukong."

Approaching Wukong, Ao Luan and Jia Ye said, "That demon disrespected Buddha; hand it over immediately."

Wukong turned his gaze to Buddha: "I, standing against the Immortals of the Three Realms, if Buddha is intent on battle, why use a demon as a pretext? It only serves to lower your stature."

"Amidst Buddha."

Buddha clasped his hands together, a showdown imminent; he was determined.

The appearance of this Scorpion Demoness had been within his calculations, seeking a reason to challenge Sun Wukong while trying to minimize disturbances.

But Wukong was right; resorting to such strategies indeed seemed beneath him.

"The assembly is now concluded."

Buddha announced the end of the assembly, and all the Immortals and Buddhas understood what was to come, their expressions becoming grave.

Subsequently, Buddha no longer restrained his aura and released the light of Buddha relics, with forty-two golden rainbows springing forth, resembling rays from the celestial sun.

"Sun Wukong, I ask you once more."

Buddha's massive halo appeared behind him, asking, "Are you willing to give up the Heavenly Emperor Jade Seal?"

"I am not."

Sun Wukong answered.

Behind him, a patch of light also rose, and amidst a continuous series of flashes, the Wanling mural blossomed in the sky.

The sky was divided into two by the radiance of the two Heavenly Venerates.

"The matter has come to this point..."

Buddha said, "Let us settle the victory or defeat here."

Buddha's body flickered with Buddha Light, and a golden rainbow swept across the sky, pressing down on Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong sat opposite him, with the brilliance emitted from the Wanling mural colliding with the Buddha Light, countless texts arising from the golden light, colliding, and then annihilating.

Both parties had the same glow, yet their meanings were starkly different.

One side was flowing with Sanskrit, while the other was shimmering with Immortal Text.

Sanskrit and Immortal Text collided without any sound, but there was a terrifying spiritual pressure that swept across the sky.

Numerous Immortals' weapons emitted sounds of cracking.

"How could this be."

The Immortals were surprised, as even without Sun Wukong and Buddha moving a finger, the atmosphere was imposing enough to scare people.

They endured the spiritual pressure for a while but ultimately could not withstand it and scattered away.

"All are useless creatures."

Shangqing sighed inwardly upon seeing this scene.

A wave of spiritual pressure brushed past them, and the edges of their garments showed tears.

Shangqing was alarmed.

"Heavenly Dao erosion."

"Retreat quickly!"

They rapidly distanced themselves.

"How could this be."

Yuqing looked back at Sun Wukong and Buddha, "How could their aura be so domineering!"

Shangqing looked at his torn sleeve, somewhat worried.

The strength of these two had clearly surpassed their imagination, and should Sun Wukong be taken by Lingshan after this battle, then...

Shangqing couldn't imagine what the future might become.

In the sky, Buddha said to Sun Wukong, "You are the only one who could possibly defeat me in the countless eons that have passed."

The time of Buddha's cultivation was far less than that of the Jade Emperor and The Three Pure Ones, yet he was extraordinarily gifted, invincible, his Divine Skills far surpassing theirs.

After innumerable moments, Buddha saw another being who could contest with him.

He was brimming with satisfaction.

"If you lose this battle, how about you convert to Buddhism?"

Buddha asked.

Sun Wukong slightly frowned, then nodded, "As you see fit."

If he could not defeat Buddha, the final outcome was out of his hands anyway.

"And if I win?"

Sun Wukong asked in return.

"If you win, then I shall bow down and serve you."

Buddha gave him the answer he wanted.

At Huaguo Mountain, Ao Luan saw the western sky change.

In that place invisible to mortals, two auras grew increasingly strong.

These were dangerous auras, quickly turning into flames that would devour the Three Realms, spreading to every corner of the Mortal World.

The ultimate war was about to begin.

"Second Great King."

Long Armed Ape Monkey appeared behind Ao Luan, "We are ready."

Ao Luan took a deep breath, her expression slowly becoming serious.

"Begin."

She softly gave the order.

Minutes later, countless lights flew out of Huaguo Mountain, heading in all directions.

The sky was illuminated by these lights.

These were the myriad spirits rushing to the battlefield.

Immortals, Demons, human beings, everyone was mobilized for this war.
