The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 419: A New Life

"Sun Wukong."

The Buddha spoke, his voice like a celestial echo, "I once said if I didn't return, you wouldn't be able to defeat this self of mine."

Sun Wukong nodded slightly, "So what?"

"I was wrong."

The Buddha said, "You have defeated me."

Sun Wukong laughed speechlessly, "Which Buddha are you, really?"

"Both."

The Buddha said, "I owe you a favor, but I cannot allow your current actions."

Sun Wukong asked, "Do we still have to fight?"

The Buddha shook his head.

Sun Wukong had saved him and the beings of the little world after all; he couldn't ignore this debt.

"I'll wait for you one day."

The Buddha said, "After a day, we will decide the outcome."

This day was given to Sun Wukong to resolve the Heavenly Dao Curse.

Sun Wukong smiled, "No need for a day."

Light burst from his body, and the next moment, Sun Wukong's figure suddenly disappeared.

"Qinghua."

Emperor Gouchen looked at Emperor Qinghua.

Emperor Qinghua nodded slightly, "Let's go together."

The two then flew away from Lingshan with the immortals.

"Buddha."

The assembly of Buddhas gathered around Tathāgata.

"They have gone to the Heavenly Palace. Follow along."

The Buddha said, transforming into light and flying toward the Heavenly Palace.

The assembly of Buddhas followed closely behind.

At the Heavenly Palace, Sun Wukong suddenly appeared.

He walked toward the Wanling Tree burning with black flames.

The Jade Emperor and the Grandmaster, who were in the midst of playing chess, stood up.

"Imperial Brother."

The Jade Emperor looked over in surprise.

One after another, beams of light flew up to the Heavenly Palace.

The Jade Emperor turned his head, seeing it was the two Heavenly Venerates and the assembly of Buddhas from Lingshan.

"Your Majesty."

The True Spirit of the Buddha clasped his hands in greeting to the Jade Emperor.

The Jade Emperor looked at his flickering body, then sighed, "Buddha, why do you go to such lengths?"

The Buddha's physical form was no more, and although the two True Spirits had merged, it was only a tactic to delay; once karmic retribution struck, he would inevitably fall.

"Your Majesty need not worry."

The Buddha looked toward the Wanling Tree, "How can the curse be lifted?"

"I don't know,"

The Jade Emperor replied.

Although he had created this Immortal Technique, he did not know how to undo it.

Sun Wukong stood beneath the tree looking at the black flames, countless possibilities flashing in his eyes.

Various methods of breaking the spell appeared in his mind, yet none could address the immediate problem.

The Jade Emperor's Immortal Technique had already spread; no matter how good a method, it was too late now.

"I can only do this."

Sun Wukong opened his hand.

Light flickered in his palm, spreading like ripples, countless Immortal Texts bursting forth, then blossoming, forming a vast Wanling Diagram in mid-air.

Like the dawn breaking, the Wanling Diagram emitted light, resonating with Heavenly Dao practitioners across the Three Realms.

The people engulfed in black flames seemed to sense something, looking up at the sky.

In the sky, the Wanling Diagram gradually expanded.

"No, no, it can't be..."

In Yunxiao City, Ao Luan's body shone with Immortal Light, suddenly opening his eyes, "No, brother!"

"Second Great King!"

The demons surrounded him in joy.

"Move aside!"

Ao Luan stood up with effort, looking at the Wanling Diagram in the sky.

The disorder of the Wanling Heavenly Dao could only be resolved at its root.

"I must stop my brother!"

Ao Luan flew toward the sky for a moment, then fell back down.

In the sky, the Wanling Diagram spun, lines of light tracing out, and then a radiant doorway appeared, faintly revealing Immortal Texts.

Sun Wukong looked at the doorway leading to the Wanling Diagram, taking a step toward the sky.

"Are you going to sacrifice yourself again?"

A voice suddenly sounded, "This is not your burden to bear."

Sun Wukong stopped, light flying from his chest.

It was the little Phoenix.

Her true self was not within the Three Realms, so she had no place to return to.

"I know what you plan to do."

The little Phoenix said, "You want to strengthen your fusion with the Wanling Diagram to achieve complete control over the Heavenly Dao."

Sun Wukong nodded, "It's not a difficult task."

The quickest way to dispel the curse was to enhance control over the Heavenly Dao.

If he could meticulously manage the Heavenly Dao in every corner of the Three Realms, he could easily dispel the Immortal Law Curse, effectively becoming the Heavenly Dao's central intellect.

But this posed a great burden on Sun Wukong.

His Divine Soul could not fully integrate with the Heavenly Dao.

"Your burdens are already many, and this is an unnecessary one."

The little Phoenix said, "Let me handle it. You are the master of the Heavenly Dao; there's no need for you to be bound by it."

The Heavenly Dao manager managed the safety and order of the Heavenly Dao.

While the master of the Heavenly Dao guided the creation and future of the Heavenly Dao.

Sun Wukong, while creating, also managing those details, was like shackling his own hands and feet.

"Let me manage the Heavenly Dao."

The little Phoenix said, "I will exist in every corner of the Three Realms, advancing alongside the Heavenly Dao."

Sun Wukong was taken aback, "Can you do it?"

"There's nothing I cannot do."

The little Phoenix said, "My Divine Soul is no weaker than yours."

The Three Realms had no place for her.

"Perhaps I will find my new belonging within the Heavenly Dao."

The little Phoenix said.

Sun Wukong remained silent for a long while, then nodded, "Okay."

"Thank you."

The little Phoenix thanked him, rushing into the radiant doorway.

The moment she stepped through the door, countless Immortal Texts surrounded her, warm and bright.

These Immortal Texts surged toward the little Phoenix. She knew that once she accepted them, she would become bound by the rules of the Heavenly Dao, transforming into a manager of the Heavenly Dao, devoid of freedom.

"No matter."

The little Phoenix opened her heart to welcome the overwhelming Immortal Texts.

She had nothing to lose and nothing to fear.

This was the new life she had chosen for herself.
