The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 35: Wondrous Sights

This time, Sun Wukong did not stop Immortal Zhenyuan.

He wanted to pursue the sun, so Sun Wukong let him do so.

Immortal Zhenyuan bravely ran after the sun, while Sun Wukong went in search of herbal medicine.

"This is the place."

White Dragon led Sun Wukong over mountains and across rivers, following winding stone steps, and they found a dilapidated Daoist temple.

"This temple's master is skilled in alchemy and has collected many herbal medicines."

Sun Wukong knocked on the door of the Daoist temple.

The door creaked open a crack, revealing a little acolyte's head.

"What are you here for?"

The acolyte asked warily.

"I'm here for medicine,"

as soon as Sun Wukong spoke, the acolyte's complexion changed, and the door slammed shut with a 'bang'.

Sun Wukong shook his head and used the Wall Penetration Technique to pass through the door.

"Little guy."

He reached out and grabbed the acolyte inside the door who had not reacted in time, and now was held in his hand.

"Why are you running?"

Sun Wukong asked.

The acolyte trembled in fear: "Are you, are you a demon?"

"Strictly speaking, I'm a stone sprite."

Sun Wukong said with a smile, setting the acolyte down on the ground: "Take me to see the Temple Master."

The acolyte, trembling, stood up, not daring to refuse, and immediately led Sun Wukong deeper into the temple to find the Temple Master.

"Daoist friend, from whence do you come?"

The Daoist temple's Temple Master sensed something unusual and stood waiting in the main hall.

"From the Northern Wilderness."

Sun Wukong answered: "I came here looking for herbal medicine to treat a leg ailment."

"Leg ailment?"

Hearing this, the Temple Master couldn't help but sigh: "Is it from Kua Fu's clan?"

Sun Wukong raised an eyebrow: "How do you know?"

"The Kua Fu clan often comes here for medicine to train in pursuing the sun, and those with leg ailments come to get their medicine."

The Temple Master said: "They are large in size, one of them requires enough medicine for a hundred ordinary people, the medicinal herbs useful for leg ailments in my place have long been taken by them, where could there still be any?"

Sun Wukong was stunned, he asked about several types of herbal medicine, but the Temple Master said they did not have any.

"Truly none?"

Sun Wukong looked at the Temple Master and inquired.

"Truly none."

The Temple Master answered.

Sun Wukong retracted the light in his eyes, convinced the Temple Master was not lying.

"Does the Temple Master know where these herbal medicines can be found?"

Sun Wukong asked again.

"This..."

After thinking it over, the Temple Master said: "There are a few households nearby, I once distributed some medicines to them, perhaps they may have some herbal medicine left."

Sun Wukong asked the Temple Master for directions, then followed the path to find those households.

But whether it was the woodcutter wielding an axe, or the fisherman fishing by the river, they all said they had no herbal medicine left.

Sun Wukong had no choice but to look for other medicinal materials.

Several days later, he returned to the Northern Wilderness and handed the herbal medicine he found to the old Giant.

Although there were a few herbs missing, the old Giant, unable to contain his joy, had people set up a large iron pot on the mountain, drew a lake worth of water into it, and took the herbal medicine to boil it.

This boiling used up several carts of herbal medicine; Sun Wukong watched with a bit of reluctance, understanding why the Temple Master was so resistant to those seeking medicine.

Collecting such a quantity of herbal medicine in this world was truly not easy.

After the herbal medicine was ready, the old Giant fed it to Kua Fu. His knee injury slightly improved, but he still couldn't stand.

"It won't work."

Under the gaze of Kua Fu's clan, the old Giant regretfully said: "His injuries are too severe, at the earliest he'd be able to stand in half a month, as for running, heaven knows which year and month that'd be."

The surrounding Giants immediately erupted into an uproar.

"Now we're done for, the Clan Leader can't pursue the sun anymore!"

"We're going to freeze to death!"

Unable to contain their panic, Sun Wukong furrowed his brows as he listened to their clamorous voices.

At that moment, a charred figure walked in.

"I have a way."

The charred figure said this.

Sun Wukong turned his head to look at it, after a long stare, he made sure he was not mistaken—this fellow, whose hair had all been burnt off, was Immortal Zhenyuan.

"Immortal..."

Sun Wukong asked curiously: "How did you end up looking like this?"

"Blame the sun!"

Immortal Zhenyuan was charred black, emitting a smell of burnt flesh: "It couldn't accept my flight across it, and attacked me with True Fire, burning me into this state!"

Immortal Zhenyuan ground his teeth, clearly enraged by the sun.

"Did you really catch up with it?"

The Giants were somewhat skeptical.

"Of course, I did."

Immortal Zhenyuan said: "It's just that the sun is extremely hot, truly difficult to grasp, I need one more thing before I can take it down."

"What thing."

The old Giant inquired.

Immortal Zhenyuan glanced at Kua Fu: "I need his hand!"

"No way!"

"How can this be!"

The Giant tribe erupted in anger.

However, amid the rage, a voice suddenly rose.

"Would one hand do?"

When the Giants heard this voice, they were first stunned, then they quickly began to discuss.

"One hand seems workable!"

"Yes indeed, it wouldn't stop him from eating or wiping his butt!"

They glanced at Kua Fu and swiftly decided to trade him, some even started to sharpen their knives.

Sun Wukong watched this unfold and said: "If you need his hand, why must you cut it off?"

The Giants looked at him with perplexed expressions.

The next day, a bizarre spectacle appeared on the ground.

Two strange figures carried a Giant who stretched his hand out front, running madly towards the sun.
