"Is there no one in this world to suppress the vast sea together with Jingwei?"
Immortal Zhenyuan couldn't help but ask, "Why has it been unstoppable for tens of thousands of years?"
"Deep in the sea there is a Black Dragon, transformed from a divine talisman left by the Venerable before his departure."
The Mountain God replied, "It's too powerful. Each year it causes tsunamis, and although there have been resistances, all have failed."
Immortal Zhenyuan couldn't help shaking his head.
"Junior brother."
Immortal Zhenyuan said, "It seems this world lacks formidable beings."
Sun Wukong nodded.
"If you immortals wish to leave this world, could you take me with you?"
The Mountain God suddenly requested.
This world could be submerged at any moment, and the West Mountain would not hold for much longer.
Sun Wukong nodded, then glanced at the birds in the sky.
"There are no nests here, where does the Jingwei bird make its home?"
Sun Wukong inquired.
"Further north by two hundred li, there lies the Fajiu Mountain, where dense zheshu trees grow. The Jingwei bird and its generations have all lived there."
The Mountain God replied.
Sun Wukong stored it away and, together with Immortal Zhenyuan and the others, headed towards Fajiu Mountain.
Along the way, the Mountain God shared more stories about the Jingwei bird.
After Emperor Yan's youngest daughter transformed into the Jingwei bird, she flew tirelessly between the great sea and the West Mountain year after year, without rest.
Touched by her fearless spirit, a sea-swallow became her mate, and they had many offspring. The little Jingweis, just like their mother, continued to carry stones to fill the sea, and to this day, they still carry on with this task.
"This is truly not easy."
Sun Wukong held deep respect for the Jingwei bird's perseverance inside his heart.
Fajiu Mountain, two hundred li from West Mountain, is home to countless Jingwei birds nesting and settling there. When Sun Wukong and his party arrived, even Immortal Zhenyuan couldn't help but admire the sight.
"What a paradise on earth!"
Before them lay an Immortal Island shrouded in Auspicious Clouds.
Rainbow mists filled the mountain, neither fog nor smoke.
That was Merit.
"The tide cannot submerge this island."
The Mountain God said, "This merit protects Jingwei."
Not just that, Sun Wukong also noticed glowing shores around Fajiu Mountain that stopped the sea from spreading further.
Those glowing shores were sculpted from pebbles of the West Mountain.
The group ascended Fajiu Mountain, where abundant grass and plentiful food grew, but it seemed only the Jingwei bird resided there.
Despite their search, they could not find a single speaking person.
"The lifespan of Jingwei birds is short, and cultivation is difficult for them. After generations have passed, they have become no different from ordinary birds."
The Mountain God explained.
Immortal Zhenyuan sighed, "What a pity for this island."
Sun Wukong looked upon the colorfully misty mountain.
"It would be a shame to leave like this; I could guide them in cultivation."
He said, to everyone's astonishment.
"Junior brother, that's too time-consuming," said Immortal Zhenyuan.
Sun Wukong shook his head, "Just one day."
He sat down cross-legged on the spot, using a spell, and the rainbow mists quickly surged towards him, encircling the area.
In an instant, Sun Wukong was enveloped in the radiant light, obscuring his true form from the others around him.
"What Immortal Law is this?"
The two from Nan Ming asked.
"The Merit Technique."
Immortal Zhenyuan shook his head: "I'm not aware of the specifics."
He roughly understood what Sun Wukong was about to do.
The Jingwei birds had suppressed the sea and possessed supreme merit; with just a little guidance and learning of the Merit Technique, they could cultivate into spirits.
Endless auspicious energy surged towards Sun Wukong.
Sun Wukong's body grew at a visible speed to the naked eye, surrounded by auspicious mists and radiant light; he soon transformed into a giant sitting on Immortal Island.
"Come here."
He spoke.
Endless merit transformed into a dazzling Star River, revolving around him, emitting a powerful aura.
Some bold Jingwei birds flew over, dancing around him.
Sun Wukong uttered a spell, and sparks ignited in the dazzling Star River, turning into beams of light that fell upon the Jingwei birds.
Golden light kindled on the bodies of the Jingwei birds, carrying a fresh scent, cleansing them of worldly filth, making them shine with a pure and sacred light.
The eyes of the Jingwei birds became animated, making joyful chirping sounds.
Hearing the chirping, other Jingwei also flew over, dancing and chirping around Sun Wukong.
Before long, all the Jingwei birds radiated light, their forms gradually enlarged, their wings flickering with firelight, resembling a flock of phoenixes circling the sky.
Their excited chirping sounded as if not touching the mortal world, ever more sacred.
The firelight was endless; brilliant radiance submerged the sky.
The Heavenly Dogs on the ground were left dumbfounded.
"Really, really amazing..."
The Heavenly Dog stuttered.
Although it knew Sun Wukong was formidable, it never imagined that he could turn all the birds of a mountain into demons in an instant.
However, it was not over yet.
After the Jingwei birds gained intelligence, Sun Wukong began to teach them the way of transformation.
What he taught was the transformation technique of Huaguo Mountain, not something significant within the Three Realms, but extremely effective in this world that had lost its heritage.
The Jingwei listened for a whole day, then one by one they shone with light, like carps leaping into dragons, undergoing a qualitative change, a complete transformation.
After the light had faded, young men and women with wings on their backs appeared in mid-air.
These Jingwei birds, after listening to Sun Wukong's way of transformation, retained wings on their backs and feathers by their ears.
They were handsome and pretty, after the transformation, drifting untainted by dust, more like immortals than demons.
"Indeed, the descendants of immortals."
Sun Wukong thought to himself and ceased teaching.
The Jingwei flew on Auspicious Clouds, floating around Sun Wukong, bowing and worshipping him, like stars surrounding the moon.
"Thank you, dear mentor!"
They said in unison.
Sun Wukong was taken aback.
"I do not deserve such."
He said, "Your transformation is due to generations of suppressing the sea, leaving behind supreme merit; I merely gave it a push."
"If it weren't for the Black Dragon hindering our heritage, without the mentor teaching us, we would never know how to cultivate."
A girl with bright eyes and white teeth spoke out, "Mentor's profound kindness and great virtue, if you ever have a request, we would brave flames and tread through boiling water to fulfill it for the mentor."
Sun Wukong smiled, shaking his head, "I don't need you to brave flames and tread through boiling water."
He curiously asked, "Why do you say the inability to cultivate was due to the Black Dragon's hindrance?"
"Our ancestors left memories in their essence blood."
The girl Jingwei said, "Once we transform into spirits, we can understand."
Sun Wukong had a sudden realization.
"I've heard that the land of this world is almost submerged by the sea."
He continued to ask, "You fly all year round, have you seen land?"
"Land?"
The girl and her companions whispered to each other, chattering for a while before they got a precise answer.
"At the end of the eastern sea, there is still a piece of land that has not been submerged."
After the girl answered Sun Wukong, she looked over curiously.
"Mentor doesn't seem like someone from Xisuqichi, are you from another Star Palace?"
