The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 85: Don't Let Me Find a Husband

Mist enshrouds the green mountain, like an Immortal Mirror.

Dozens of men walk along the mountain path into the valley, spotting a Daoist temple amidst the fog, barely visible.

"We have arrived."

The men's eyes light up: "That's where Miss Heng'e lives!"

They approach the temple and knock on the door; soon a servant comes out.

After understanding their purpose, he asks the men to wait for a moment.

"Gentlemen, please wait here for a moment, I will go inform Fairy Heng'e."

Once done speaking, the servant leaves the men at the entrance and closes the door behind him.

"Master."

He reaches the courtyard, and in the blink of an eye, transforms into a young girl: "Those men have arrived."

Sun Wukong nods and looks towards Immortal Zhenyuan.

"Once they come in, I'll suck them into my sleeves for easy transportation."

Immortal Zhenyuan says: "But, younger brother, you must immobilize them first."

"No problem."

Sun Wukong instructs the girl to open the door while he clenches his fist and recites an Immobilization Spell.

The girl, turned servant, opens the door and invites the men in.

Sun Wukong releases his hand, and a gust of Immortal Wind sweeps out from it.

As the men step through the entrance, they are blown by the wind and lose consciousness.

In an instant, every man who just entered is immobilized by Sun Wukong.

Immortal Zhenyuan can't help but want to clap.

"Your turn."

Sun Wukong says to Immortal Zhenyuan.

The Immortal nods, then waves his hand.

"Come in!"

He unfolds his Sleeve Universe and sucks all the immobilized men into his sleeve.

After sucking them in, Immortal Zhenyuan shakes his sleeve to make sure the number of people is correct.

"Younger brother, if they see the Goddess and realize she is not the young girl, what then?"

Immortal Zhenyuan asks.

"It won't."

Sun Wukong says: "I will have the Goddess appear as Heng'e."

As long as the Goddess appears in the form of Heng'e, these men will not notice anything unusual.

Afterwards, once the Goddess selects a spouse and returns to her original form, the lucky one will have no complaints—after all, the Goddess is more charming than Heng'e.

"After the Goddess selects her spouse, we will immobilize the rest and bring them back here."

Sun Wukong says.

"Feasible."

Immortal Zhenyuan nods.

Both prepare to leave.

"You all stay here."

Sun Wukong speaks to the young girl, Heavenly Dog, and Heavenly Horse.

The Wushan Goddess won't allow them into her Immortal Palace; going there would be pointless.

"Yes."

The group agrees.

Afterwards, Sun Wukong and Immortal Zhenyuan return to Wushan.

The Goddess has been waiting in the Immortal Palace for a long time, and upon seeing them enter empty-handed, she frowns: "Where are those men?"

"Right here."

Immortal Zhenyuan shakes his sleeve; all the men fall to the ground, still in their entering stance.

"Sleeve Universe!?"

The male Taoists in the palace are shocked.

A sparkle flashes in the Goddess's eyes as she looks at Immortal Zhenyuan.

Sleeve Universe is not a spell ordinary Taoists can use; with such Divine Skills, this Taoist might be an Immortal like her.

"Goddess, may you please ask your disciples to leave first."

At this moment, Sun Wukong speaks out.

The Wushan Goddess is startled and then looks around at the Taoists, already understanding.

These Taoists will surely terrify her group of spouse candidates.

"You may leave now."

The Wushan Goddess instructs her disciples to depart; although they are reluctant, they still exit the grand hall.

The Goddess then stands up, turns around and transforms into the guise of Taoist Heng'e.

"Do I look alike in this guise?"

She asks Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong secretly praises her cleverness, responding: "Flawless."

He felt that there was no need to explain anything more to the Goddess, so he recited a spell and released the Immobilization Spell.

"Um?"

The men gradually regained consciousness.

"Immortal."

Sun Wukong, pulling Immortal Zhenyuan, made their shapes invisible and left the hall.

When the men in the hall woke up, they were all surprised to find themselves in a splendid Immortal Palace.

"This Daoist Temple looks small from the outside, but I never expected it to be so spacious inside."

"Living in such an Immortal Palace, could Miss Heng'e really be a true Fairy?"

As they pondered, they joyfully greeted the Wushan Goddess.

Females Immortals seeking a husband meant they had to perform well.

"Do you think they will succeed?"

Immortal Zhenyuan waited outside the hall for a while before he couldn't help speaking to Sun Wukong.

"Unpredictable."

Sun Wukong shook his head; these matters of loved ones are never comprehensible to outsiders.

The two waited outside the hall for a long time before hearing the Goddess's psychic message and turned back to the hall.

Upon entering, they found the Goddess sitting with a look of displeasure, and the men had fainted in front of her.

Sun Wukong and Immortal Zhenyuan exchanged glances, sensing something was amiss.

"Goddess, what happened?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"These men seem to have forgotten their own skills for some reason," said the Goddess.

"Forgotten?"

Immortal Zhenyuan found it hard to believe.

These men were carefully selected by them; how could they forget what they were good at?

"Let me ask."

Immortal Zhenyuan glanced at the men lying on the ground, used a spell to awaken one, and questioned him.

His expression quickly turned grave.

"How could this be."

This man was originally skilled in music, but now when asked, he knew nothing as if he had never learned it before.

"Brother, are these really the men themselves?"

Immortal Zhenyuan asked Sun Wukong.

"Yes."

Sun Wukong nodded; no one could escape his Eyes of Golden Flame.

If there had been any impostors, he would have noticed immediately.

Sun Wukong pondered for a moment then asked the man, "Have you encountered anything strange these past few days?"

"Strange? No."

The man answered, "All has been well, but if I must say... yesterday, I think I had a strange dream."

"What kind of strange dream?"

Sun Wukong asked.

The man thought for a moment, then shook his head, "I forgot, I only remember being told not to visit Miss Heng'e."

"Not to visit Miss Heng'e?"

A sharp light flashed in Sun Wukong's eyes.

He then woke the other men and asked if they too had dreamed of a similar figure.

"They did."

Nearly all the men answered the same.

Sun Wukong immediately understood.

"Someone is trying to stop us."

He turned to look at the Wushan Goddess: "Perhaps not us, but someone preventing you from finding a husband."

"Me being prevented?"

The Wushan Goddess was shocked; after thinking deeply, a flash of insight crossed her mind.

"It must be him!"

She suddenly stood up and said, "No wonder for all these years, the men offered from different countries were all wrong, it was him plotting against me."

Her anger flaring, her teeth clenched.

"Who is this person?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"A Heavenly Immortal under the White Robed Venerate, named Galuo."

The Goddess replied: "Five thousand years ago, he came here wishing to marry me, but I rejected him for his rudeness."

As she spoke, her anger intensified.

"Knowing now what a despicable person he is, preventing me from finding a husband, I should have killed him."
