The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 139: It's Not My Path

Jingu Bang emitted a blazing light, akin to the oppressive fall of a scorching sun.

No one could withstand this mighty strike, its divine power vast, its momentum astounding. Where Jingu Bang passed, all Heavenly Dao shattered.

"This is impossible!"

After a defiant roar, Emperor Yao was engulfed by surging flames.

It was a staggering colossal clash, the Heavenly Dao lamenting, lightning turning into thousands of fragments, scattering in all directions.

"I cannot possibly lose!"

Amid the flames, Emperor Yao bellowed, his figure flickering in and out of sight.

The bloody glow on him mourned, emitting bursts of fracturing sounds, trembling under the Jingu Bang.

The Jingu Bang grew more thrilled, buzzing loudly.

The strength of Sun Wukong's hand increased more and more, he intended to decide the outcome in one move, the battlefield enveloped by terrifying Heavenly Might.

"Give up!"

He shouted loudly, the flames roaring beside him, the mark of a War God blossoming on his brow.

Cracks appeared in the blood light under his strike, a trickle of fresh blood appeared on Emperor Yao's head, unable to withstand the force of Sun Wukong's strike, the space shattered and distorted, the massive air pressure injuring him.

In the blood light, there were cries of sorrow, the sounds were piercing, as if begging for mercy, instilling a sense of melancholy.

"Why must you protect him!"

Sun Wukong bellowed, with a surge of fury, and swung the Jingu Bang forcefully.

With a "boom" a loud crash, a figure flew out of the sea of fire, wrapped in surging flames, blood dripping, shooting towards the depths of Chaos.

It was Emperor Yao.

Everyone was shocked.

Emperor Yao was defeated!

His Heavenly Sword was broken, his body covered in wounds, the Heavenly Dao also dissipated.

"Your Majesty…"

"We can no longer protect you."

The blood light turned into fragments and disappeared; sad tunes echoed in Emperor Yao's ears.

At that moment, something welled up in the corner of Emperor Yao's eyes.

"How is this possible!"

He reached out his hand, desperately trying to grasp those blood lights.

Those were the voices of his subjects.

But his subjects were clearly already dead!

Emperor Yao wrapped in flames flew into the Chaos.

"Emperor Yao!"

The White Robed Venerate saw this, immediately stood up, and turned into a beam of light chasing after him.

Into the Chaos, Sun Wukong also pursued Emperor Yao.

On his path of downfall, thousands of Heavenly Dao were shattered, the heaven and earth mourned, the Chaos itself underwent changes.

Sun Wukong suddenly stopped, around him, the pervasive blood mist presented an endless battlefield of fire.

He seemed to have entered another Star Domain, boundlessly vast yet engulfed in war flames, the ground charred, corpses strewn everywhere.

Immortals and beasts fiercely collided in the Chaos, shouts filling the air, Sun Wukong looked around, everywhere he looked, there were fires.

Several scorching suns exploded in the distance, unleashing waves of fire, mountains and rivers turned into scorched earth, immortals falling en masse.

Those were Buddha Beads.

Sun Wukong instantly understood.

This was the war between the Buddha Beads and Emperor Yao.

"Quickly send them away!"

In the battle flames, he heard a voice.

Sun Wukong turned around, just to see two beams of light rising from the Star Palace, breaking through the Chaos.

Within the light, there were faintly visible two young girls.

A sharp light flashed in Sun Wukong's eyes, then he turned his gaze towards the Star Palace.

In the Star Palace, mortals had long since perished, a shining Immortal Light soared up, breaking out of the sea of flames.

"Venerable!"

The leader yelled angrily, "I will make you pay in blood!"

Sun Wokung saw clearly, it was indeed Emperor Yao.

Emperor Yao, leading a group of immortals, rushed out of the sea of fire, heading towards the end of the Chaos.

There was a shadow there, quietly sitting cross-legged, indistinct.

He had not made a move until the immortals broke out of the battlefield, finally extending a palm, striking like a comet.

That palm, unprecedented, seemed to envelop the entire Chaos, even before it approached, the immortals around Emperor Yao turned into a mist of blood under the pressure, disappearing into the Chaos.

"Venerable One!"

Emperor Yao rushed over tragically.

The Giant Palm, carrying vast fluctuations, pressed down, one Star Palace after another exploded into dust as it passed.

Next, the Star Palace where Sun Wukong was located was also destroyed.

The blood light also dissipated with the smoke.

"Challenging the Venerable, it's... it's... hard..."

A voice appeared ahead.

Sun Wukong looked up and saw the White Robed Venerate floating in the void.

Behind him blossomed a Golden Lotus, upon which lay a bloodied and mutilated Emperor Yao.

"You have seen it all."

The White Robed Venerate's gaze rested on Sun Wukong, tranquil as the sea: "That is the Venerable."

The Venerable waved a palm, countless Star Palaces were destroyed, Immortals were like mere weeds.

That unrivaled power, no one could challenge it.

As the Heavenly Emperor, Sun Wukong felt even more the terrifying gap.

"Why is Emperor Yao still alive?"

Sun Wukong asked.

That Giant Palm was too fearsome, Emperor Yao, like the other Immortals, should not have survived.

"Even in front of the Venerable, Emperor Yao is like a weed."

The White Robed Venerate replied, "He is alive because of a moment's mercy from the Venerable."

And that moment's mercy, was himself standing before Sun Wukong.

The Venerable, who had governed Chaos for billions of years, destroyed Star Palaces, yet his kindness had not vanished completely, eventually split and transformed into the White Robed Venerate.

"Besides me, no one can change his will."

The White Robed Venerate said.

"So, is that why you established the Pure Land?"

Sun Wukong counter-questioned, "Can this help Heavenly Court avoid annihilation?"

"Pure Land is the abode of bliss; if all beings can immerse themselves here, the Venerable shall no longer interfere."

The White Robed Venerate said, "This is my pact with him."

As a condition, he left the Venerable, letting the Venerable no longer have any kindness.

A Venerable without kindness has no weakness.

"The Venerable is merciless and unrighteous, capable of annihilating all the beings of the Heavenly Court."

The White Robed Venerate said, "Only by constructing this Pure Land, can I secure their survival."

"What you have seen is just a corner of the Venerable's power; he is far stronger than you can imagine."

The White Robed Venerate continued, "We cannot defeat him; Emperor Yao and I had to compromise to save more people."

"I understand."

Sun Wukong nodded.

The White Robed Venerate looked at him: "Then I ask you once more, can you let go of your obsession?"

"I can't do it..."

Sun Wukong shook his head.

He felt the Venerable's strength, but his fighting spirit hadn't diminished; his body and heart both knew his choice.

Sun Wukong took a deep breath: "Perhaps you are right!"

He clenched the Jingu Bang, his body's flames swept across the universe, said, "Perhaps I will fail, but my Dao only knows failure, not surrender!"

How could he admit defeat?

To acknowledge Jile, would be to accept stagnation.

But how could the beings of Chaos accept stagnation?

"Emperor Yao has acknowledged your Jile."

Sun Wukong raised his Jingu Bang towards the White Robed Venerate: "But sadly, it's not my Dao."

The White Robed Venerate's eyes dimmed, a sigh in his heart.

The world is arrogant, merely unseen are the true horrors.

But after seeing it, how many can maintain their original intentions?

"Sun Wukong, I admit, your will is stronger than anyone else's."

The White Robed Venerate said, his voice carrying admiration.

"Because of this, your strength should be used in the right way."

His body shimmered with Buddha Light, his battle spirit rising.

Emperor Yao had already been defeated, the next battle, he had to personally take part.
