Heaven Slaying Blade

Chapter 491: Ants

The Gui Ruins, where Chu Mo along with his group were situated, were quite different than the outside world. They were located at the bottom of a massive canyon. On both sides, extraordinarily immense cliffs that reached up to the clouds surrounded the area.

Massive trees grew from the valley floor, reaching all the way up the cliffside. In theory, one could climb up these trees to reach the sides of the valley.

However, no one dared to attempt this recklessly. The Gui Ruins was an eerie place full of unimaginable dangers.

For instance, during their recent battle, disciples from minor sects vanished into thin air, leaving behind only eerie screams. Some of them just dropped dead while walking. No unusual signs were found on their bodies, and even the cause of death couldn't be determined, sending chills down everyone's spines.

Therefore, even individuals as powerful as One Sword and Immortal were extremely cautious. Their level of caution exceeded even those completely unfamiliar with the Gui Ruins.

Because they knew perfectly well, no distinction of major and minor sects mattered here. Everyone... was on equal footing!

Nevertheless, everyone seemed to trust Chu Mo wholeheartedly. They were all waiting for him to make the decision on the direction to proceed.

With a bitter smile on his face, Chu Mo turned his gaze towards Hua Sanniang and Xiao Yunlian amongst others, "The Four Great Sects... must have some understanding of the Gui Ruins, right?"

Hua Sanniang replied, "Understanding? The only ones from the Four Great Sects who made it back alive from Gui Ruins were just incredibly lucky! Even if you asked them to go again, they'd rather die than venture in!"

Although her words were harsh, none from Immortal's side refuted her since she was stating the unvarnished truth.

"What? All these years have passed, and yet you've not gained even the slightest understanding of Gui Ruins?" Chu Mo found this somewhat difficult to believe.

"Do you know what this place is?" Hua Sanniang gave Chu Mo a knowing look, "If you can just make it out alive from here... thank your lucky stars. You dare talk about understanding? You must be joking."

Xiao Yunlian nodded her head in agreement, taking over the conversation, "Indeed, Immortal once had a predecessor who entered the Gui Ruins, returned alive, and brought back a certain technique. That predecessor once said, in Gui Ruins, every single flower and blade of grass has the potential to kill! Furthermore, most of the time, you wouldn't even realise how you've fallen victim. The primary reason she could make it out alive was due to a butterfly guiding her path."

"A butterfly guiding the path?" Chu Mo suddenly remembered Fairy Caidie from the Illusion God world but kept wondering if the Gui Ruins also consisted of the Butterfly Clan?

It indeed seemed plausible since the Gui Ruins was a part of the Heavenly Realm that had fallen into the Mortal Realm. It might be home to many celestial creatures.

With this thought in mind, Chu Mo glanced at Huang Hui, who was silently standing beside him. She also had emerged from the Gui Ruins. He wondered if returning to this place would trigger any unusual reactions.

Huang Hui, sensing Chu Mo's gaze, spoke softly, "I feel as though I can hear a voice, calling out to me."

Everyone was taken aback and looked at Huang Hui with astonishment.

There was no point in lying or boasting here. Hence, their surprise quickly turned into envy.

If she felt someone calling out to her, didn't that indicate that she might find something important to her here?

Not many people present knew that Huang Hui was a Primordial Beast. Prior to this, they had been curious about her identity.

She didn't belong to any of the Four Great Sects. Although she was incredibly young, she possessed terrifying strength. Despite this, she showed immense respect towards Chu Mo, addressing him as 'Young Master'... Those unaware might assume she was an ordinary servant.

This event only stirred their curiosity towards her further.

"How should we address you, young lady..." Xiao Yunlian looked at Huang Hui, showing a genuine interest. If only Immortal could recruit more disciples like Huang Hui, how great would that be?

Huang Hui gave Xiao Yunlian a slight smile, replying, "My name is Huang Hui."

"You truly are an outstanding prodigy indeed!" Xiao Yunlian didn't hide her admiration for Huang Hui.

Chu Mo chuckled internally, thinking, 'If you knew her real age, and that she's much older than you... would you still be able to have such a casual conversation with her?'

But, the way Beast Clan measured the age was entirely different from the Human Clan.

Envy was unmistakable on everyone's faces as they watched Huang Hui. Hua Sanniang also chimed in, "It seems like fortune is on your side, Miss Huang."

At this moment, Huang Hui glanced at Chu Mo.

From her gaze, Chu Mo understood a lot. He laughed, "In that case, you should go ahead. Just be careful."

Huang Hui responded with a gentle smile as that was exactly what she was expecting too. She was born here and was more familiar with this place than anyone here. Thus, she didn't have anything to fear. With a slight smile, she swiftly dashed towards a large tree, disappearing into the vast canopy.

"Can she... handle this all on her own?" Xiao Yunlian seemed worried.

Hua Sanniang murmured in a soft voice, "She's a very mysterious girl."

Chu Mo didn't linger. He led everyone directly into the depths of the valley, in a completely opposite direction to where Lonely City and Beyond Heaven's members had gone. They were going in opposite directions.

Not too far ahead, several corpses lay in the path, blocking their way.

From the clothing, it was apparent these were disciples from the mid-level sects in this grand gathering of sects, all of whom were highly skilled.

To qualify for the top hundred in the Newcomer King Challenge, one needed to be extraordinary. Even the weakest amongst them had attained Enlightenment Heart Realm.

But now, their bodies lay here, creating a bleak scene.

This provoked feelings of sorrow in everyone present. It felt as if a huge rock was weighing down on their chests, creating a significant burden.

"We should bury them," Xiao Yunlian suggested with a hint of reluctance, "After all, they belong to our clan."

"Indeed, we can't just leave their bodies exposed like this... it doesn't feel right." Hua Sanniang sighed.

However, Chu Mo stopped the disciples from their sects who were about to step forward. He furrowed his brows and cautioned, "Don't touch them."

The few disciples of Immortal and One Sword Sect who were about to move forward looked at Chu Mo peculiarly, as though he was being heartless.

Chu Mo frowned but didn't pay heed to their unusual gaze. In a grave voice, he ordered, "Step back."

The disciples from Immortal and One Sword Sect hesitated and finally retreated as told, but their displeasure was even more visibly noticeable on their faces.

"Chu Mo..." Xiao Yunlian felt Chu Mo was crossing a line. Just as she was about to say something, suddenly, a flash of light glanced off Chu Mo's blade.

Everyone was surprised by Chu Mo's action and instinctively moved back.

Clang!

A loud ringing noise of metal clashing echoed.

Chu Mo stumbled backward, his face turned red, and then he let out a loud gasp and spat out a mouthful of fresh blood, turning his face pale instantly.

At this point, a few individuals who were of higher realm finally noticed a tiny ant standing where Chu Mo was previously standing. A faint white mark could be seen on its pitch-black back.

That was the mark left behind by Chu Mo's strike earlier. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, please vote for it at qidian.com. Your support is my motivation. Mobile users, please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
