The Will-Breaker
The Will-Breaker
SUMMARY
Felitïa just wanted to be a wizard—so much so that she was willing to run away from a life of wealth and privilege to become one. She never expected it to be a simple life, but she also never expected to develop unreliable telepathic powers, or for worshippers of the god of darkness and death to come after her, calling her “Will-Breaker” and seeking the location of someone she doesn’t know. On top of this, her best friend harbours dark secrets, and she’s started having memories of people she’s never met before. Everything starts to come together when she meets a young boy with unexplained powers. When Volgs, creatures out of legend itself, kidnap the boy, Felitïa decides enough is enough. If her enemies are going to keep calling her Will-Breaker, it’s about time she lived up to the name.
Felitïa returns to Quorge, the city where she grew up, determined to uncover the secrets of her own mind, as well as those of Corvinian's strange powers, and the staff she retrieved in Ninifin. Yet the staff is clearly malfunctioning. It calls to her incessantly and near endlessly, distracting her and making it difficult to sleep. Hallucinations follow and she begins to question her own judgement and actions. As dark forces start making their moves across Arnor and Isyaria, a severely sleep-deprived Felitïa begins to fear she may be losing her mind.
Felitïa has partially broken through her block, but now finds herself flooded with powers she can’t yet control. Although she has guidance from Mikranasta, it is going to take time to learn that control—time she might not have. As prophesied in The Foretellings of Eleuia, the daemons have come for her, and they will destroy Quorge to get to her.
Meanwhile, Rudiger is a prisoner in the Royal Palace outside Arnor City, where Lidda Plavin is determined to learn the secrets of his sword, Slay. She believes it to be the legendary sword, Daemonslayer, but according to all other sources, Daemonslayer is guarded by a group of monks in Singea. Rudiger’s sword must be one of a number of decoy swords, yet there’s no denying Rudiger’s sword has power. The only way to determine the truth is to travel to Singea and compare the swords, but both swords pass every test meant to distinguish the real Daemonslayer from the decoys. This leads the monks to a conclusion they admit is utterly impossible, but must be true nonetheless. However, Rudiger is less accepting of the monks’ conclusion and believes there must be something else going on, After all, the two swords can’t both be the same sword, can they?
