Era of Magic and Martial Arts

Chapter 47: The Beginning—Have My Eyes Been Exposed?

Late at night.

Blood Rose Bar.

The bottle smashed hard on Ma Bin's head, spicy liquor mixed with blood soaked his hair, trickling down his forehead. His glasses on the bridge of his nose were cracked, and blood threads appeared in his eyeballs, making him look very miserable.

Zheng Si, half-naked, panted heavily, his palm like a millstone, crushing the remaining bottle neck into shards.

He held up his hand and poured everything over Ma Bin's head, who stood motionless.

Zheng Si grabbed Ma Bin's head, exerted force, causing the shards to press into his scalp, making a tooth-aching sound. His scalp and hair roots instantly turned crimson.

"You don't know Martial Arts, weak as a willow, can't even hold a knife steady, yet I've always defended you, let you hold the number two position in the gang. What do you think I saw in you?" Zheng Si roared angrily.

His furious roar penetrated the private room, passed through the corridor, and echoed throughout the Blood Rose. All the gang members shivered collectively, glancing toward the innermost corridor, but no one dared to approach.

Ma Wei stood guard at the private room door, his heart pounding crazily: "Bin won't get beaten to death by Boss Zheng today, right?"

His neck stiffly turned slightly toward the door, just enough to catch a glimpse inside. Any more, he really didn't dare to look.

Inside the room, Ma Bin's head was gripped by a huge hand, the five fingers crushing his glasses, seemingly about to embed them into his flesh.

Ma Bin's face turned red, feeling like his feet were half-suspended in the air.

He strained to answer, "Boss Zheng values my brain."

Zheng Si sneered, "Exactly. I value your clever brain, so vicious, and over these years, you've never disappointed me."

He paused, loosened his grip slightly, and continued, "But this time, you tell me that you can't find the killer who killed Hang. Should I understand that your brain is finally useless now?"

Ma Bin's scalp felt about to tear, his voice trembling, "It's not that I can't find it. It's Li Shang who warned me multiple times. The Patrol Office has already closed the case, not allowing anyone else to investigate, or else..."

Zheng Si's single eye exuded a ferocious light, staring tightly at Ma Bin: "Just a deputy captain of the Patrol Office, what, are you afraid of him?"

Ma Bin panted heavily, not daring to answer this question.

Zheng Si's chest was full of anger, with a flick of the hand, Ma Bin crashed heavily against the wall, sliding down with numerous broken bottles, unable to get up for a long time.

Zheng Si roared wildly, murderous intent in his eyes almost becoming tangible.

He squatted atop the broken glass on the floor, a fake eye devoid of emotion looking down on Ma Bin, lowering his voice, "I gave you two weeks, now only three days left, so I keep your brain on your neck."

"The last three days, no matter what method you use, bring the killer to me. I want to tear them apart, or else..."

Zheng Si bent down, hot breath sprayed on Ma Bin's blood-soaked ear, "I'll tear you apart!"

Ma Bin struggled to half-get up, nodded heavily with his bloodied face.

Zheng Si was ready to stand up when he heard Ma Bin naively ask, "What about Li Shang?"

Under the irritation of alcohol and anger, Zheng Si's temples pulsed painfully. He laughed in extreme anger, hoarsely saying, "He dares to hinder my revenge for my son, so use your brain to deal with him for me. If you can't handle Li Shang, deal with those around him. Isn't that what you're best at?"

Ma Bin feigned terror, kneeling on the ground asking, "Big brother, what do you mean?"

Zheng Si did not understand how a deputy captain of the Patrol Office could make Ma Bin so foolish. He harshly said, "My son died, but Li Shang has a son, right? He has a wife or mistress, right? Kidnap his entire family to force him to shut up and obey. Need I teach you this?"

Ma Bin got up, a sinister and cruel smile appearing on his bloodstained face: "Understood, boss, I won't disappoint you."

Zheng Si snorted coldly, showing Ma Bin three fingers.

When Ma Bin left the private room, he discreetly signaled to Ma Wei, who closed the door. After waiting awhile, hearing the sounds of women's moans start inside, he left quietly.

Knock knock.

"Come in."

Ma Wei pushed the door open and entered, keeping his head down to avoid looking at Bin's miserable state.

Ma Bin sat on the sofa, wiped his head with a damp cloth, and said calmly, "Boss Zheng did this, there's nothing too daring to see. There's no need to be so cautious. I won't vent my anger on others for this sort of thing."

Upon hearing this, Ma Wei slowly looked up, feeling a jolt in his heart.

He saw Ma Bin pulling shards of glass out of his forehead in the mirror of his phone, a face wounded and bleeding, yet wearing an exceptionally bright smile.

Ma Wei's heart skipped a beat, not understanding why Bin was smiling, yet making him more uneasy than seeing his usual sullen face.

Ma Bin smiled, "Want to rise to the top?"

Ma Wei understood any word of refusal at this moment would make it unlikely to walk out that door. He swallowed, quickly nodding: "I do."

Ma Bin's smile grew brighter: "Handle this matter well, and I'll secure your future in my position."

Ma Wei inhaled sharply, forcing a smile more pained than crying on his face.

Ma Bin casually tossed over a stapled A4 list, saying, "After the Upper City lights are on, gather the gang and bring everyone on the list back for Boss Zheng."

Ma Wei doubted Bin's seriousness: "Bring?"

Ma Bin pulled out a shard from his forehead, calmly saying, "Interpret it however you like, but by tomorrow night, all 49 suspects must be brought back, alive or dead, not a single one missing."

Ma Wei's liver quivered; abducting 49 people in one day, even if they were Blank People, the commotion couldn't possibly be hidden.

Ma Bin knew Ma Wei's concern. He applied a band-aid to his facial wound, softly saying, "No need to hide it; the bigger the disturbance, the better."

Ma Wei's feet grew cold, feeling a chill shoot straight to his head.

Then he heard Bin's next sentence: "One thing, whether concerning the gang or outsiders, remember, this was ordered by Boss Zheng personally."

Ma Wei's scalp tingled.

Ma Bin didn't urge, leaving Ma Wei alone to ponder.

After a long while, just as Ma Wei was about to speak, Ma Bin smiled maliciously saying, "If you think you can't handle it, you could have the Lame there help you out~"

Ma Wei felt like he had fallen into an ice cellar, his vision nearly blacking out, tongue-tied: "Bin, Bin, what are you talking about?"

Ma Bin: "You won't think I truly don't know about the texts you send out every night, informing outsiders?"

Ma Wei's teeth chattered, cold sweat pouring off his forehead.

Ma Bin smiled, "You can't fool me on Zhang Tong's death and the scar on your belly, unlike others. That treacherous Lame must have something against you, right? Let me guess, is it a video of you killing Zhang Tong?"

Ma Wei's mind went blank: ".….."

Ma Bin read his expression, quit questioning, and comforted him, "Don't worry, I won't expose you. After all, we're ants on the same rope now."

Ma Wei couldn't completely understand; his mouth dry, he wanted to explain.

Ma Bin stood up, gestured a "shush" motion with his finger, understandingly, saying, "No need to explain. People can be forgiven for doing anything to survive, right?"

Ma Wei nodded rigidly.

Ma Bin then patted his shoulder: "You're a smart person; smart people know which path is their only way to live."

Ma Wei contemplated for a full half-minute, knowing he had no way out. He gritted his teeth, "Bin, I know what to do, but will the gang brothers listen to me, I'm still just a..."

Ma Bin laughed heartily, "You think I had you guard the door for Boss Zheng without reason? Go ahead; everything you do will be attributed to Boss Zheng. Besides, Xiaoli and I will testify for you."

Xiaoli was one of the two ladies Ma Bin had sent to Boss Zheng's room last week; the other was Xiaoyou, who died yesterday.

Ma Wei exited, his mind still dazed. He decided to first send a text to the boss to calm his nerves, heading to the furthest toilet stall first.

Ma Bin watched Ma Wei leave and pulled out a pen from his jacket pocket, playing with it between his fingers, an intriguing smile on his lips:

"A video? Such a low method, haha, but low methods often work miracles, so it's no wonder someone always resorts to them."

Laughing, Ma Bin unplugged the pen cap, plugged it into the computer's USB port, and clicked open a sound recording and editing software.
