Chapter 130: 130: Unexpected Quest Pt 4

The goblin stood in front of him, his large hand clenched, ready to strike. Drake slashed his whip again, aiming for the goblin's face. Drake was not disappointed. It lashed across his face, cutting through his eyes. It wasn't deep enough to kill it, but it did take out its eyes.

The goblin stumbled back, one of his hands covering his empty eye sockets. Drake took the opportunity to rush forward. He stabbed his blade into the goblin's heart. It burst into light particles. In its place was a golden chest.

Drake opened it, finding a golden whip. There was a small clamp that would attach the whip he had been using to the new one. After attaching the two whips, they melted together. There was a spiral of gold and silver running the length of the whip. Glowing words appeared in the air above him, then the soft voice of the system floated through the tunnel.

{You Whip has upgraded. Its attack strength raised by 50%}

Drake smiled. He was happy that at least one of his weapons was stronger.

Taking a few minutes of rest to catch his breath, he slowly stood and looked into the darkness. He could feel more attackers waiting for him to release them from the darkness.

Sighing, Drake knew the only way to get out of the dungeon was to clear it. He steeled himself before moving forward down the tunnel.

The darkness cleared, and two goblins showed themselves along with two bat creatures.

First, swinging out his whip, he slashed at the bats, one by one, causing them to burst into light particles. Even before the cloud of light particles cleared, he turned his attention to the two goblins. They weren't like the last one, but they were strong. Each had armor as well as a weapon. Like the last pair, one had an axe, and the other a sword.

Drake lashed out with his whip before they could get closer to him. It hit one of them, doing a little damage. He lashed it again, hitting the same one. It burst into light particles with the second swing. It was one less than the last time.

The second goblin moved forward, raising his axe. With a war cry, he leaped forward, swinging down his weapon, trying to hit Drake in the head. Drake moved to the side, avoiding the blow before stabbing forward with his sword, impaling the goblin in one of its broad shoulders. It didn't do very much. It left a minor wound that seeped blood. The sword hadn't gone in far enough. Drake stood too far away for it to go deeper.

Lashing his whip out toward the goblin, it raised its axe in the air a second time, ready to take another swing at Drake. Before it could swing it down, Drake's whip wrapped around the arm holding the axe. Yanking the whip forward, it squeezed around the arm tighter, then severed the goblin's arm, which promptly fell to the ground.

The goblin screamed in pain and anger, bending forward to pick the axe from the ground with its remaining hand. Drake didn't let it; he swung his whip, severing the goblin's head.

When the light particles vanished, there were several piles of coins, as well as a small wooden chest.

Drake gathered his loot, putting everything but the chest in his bag. He opened the chest. It was a ring. When he put the ring on, glowing words materialized in front of him, and the soft voice of the system echoed through the tunnel.

{Bronze ring found}

{When wearing the bronze ring, strength will increase +1}

Drake shrugged. Adding one to his strength was better than nothing.

Drake continued down the seemingly never-ending tunnel and found no side paths or tunnels. It just kept going. He inched his way through, not wanting to walk too fast. It would open up more of the darkened areas, giving him more attackers than he could handle at one time.

After going several feet, two more goblins appeared. These were the same as before. There were no bat creatures he had to worry about. However, there was a slug-like beast that shot out acidic slime. Drake barely dodged an acidic slime attack. When the slime landed, Drake could hear a sizzling sound. He peeked to the side. There was a thin line of smoke as the acid ate away at a portion of the wall.

"I have to get rid of that one first."

Drake lashed his whip toward the slug while swinging his sword toward the closest goblin. The sword slashed a line across the goblin's chest, cutting through the armor. It wasn't enough to do too much damage. His whip slashed across the slug's body, cutting it in half. It burst into light particles and vanished.

With relief, Drake put his attention on the two goblins. When he slashed his whip toward one goblin, it sliced across its chest. A thin line of smoke rose as the area sizzled.

Drake sucked in a breath, hoping that the acid from the slug wasn't melting the whip. He needed it. It was currently the strongest weapon he had.

Quickly, Drake slashed his whip again. As his hand pulled back the whip, his sword hand shot forward in a stabbing motion, stabbing at a goblin. It didn't take long for the tunnel to be filled with light particles from his kills.

When he collected the loot, he found coins and a light green ring that looked as if it were constructed from light jade. It was large, though.

Words materialized in soft white in front of him. The voice of the system read out the words.

{Acid protection}

{When attached to a weapon, it protects the weapon from acid attacks.}

Drake slipped the ring onto the whip, locking it in place.

"Convenient," Drake muttered, looking at the ring, now attached to his two-toned whip.

After taking another couple of minutes' rest, he continued down the tunnel. After reaching a few feet, he was at another split in the tunnel. It was the same as before, only the separation was a bit farther apart than the last one. He needed to pick one of them.
