Death… And Me

Chapter 4049: Maybe

Chapter 4049: Maybe

"What?!"

"Why?!"

"This makes no sense!"

"If that’s the case, then why did you ask us to select two in the first place?"

"Is he making a joke of us?"

Those and many other voices were raised in the hall, both advisors and princesses alike. However, Zanbril quickly stopped them. "I know, I know! You are all upset, but this is part of my test. I knew all the princesses here would select the two best advisors with the highest cultivation possible. However, I also want to see what you would do if things didn’t go to plan, and how you would adapt."

He continued. "Everyone here brought more companions than just the two advisors, no exception. Nonetheless, my only rule at the moment is that you can swap one of your advisors with anyone else in the room. It can even be an exchange of advisors from another princess if you want. Alright, that’s it. You have ten minutes."

Rean watched that with interest. "This is getting fun."

"Right?" Kentucky agreed. "I wonder how everyone will react."

"One thing is certain: Unless they are some kind of allies, I highly doubt the princesses will swap advisors with other princesses. After all, that advisor would be from an opponent princess and could very well purposely get in the way later on," Rean commented.

Kenyucky nodded. "By the way, would Xixie and her brothers ask us for help?"

"Uh? Why would they do that?" Rean shook his head. "They barely know us. Chances are, they will be suspicious of us since other princesses could try to buy our loyalty. Besides, they also brought another three experts from the Riquicious Empire with them. Picking one of the three would make a lot more sense."

"Oh! That’s true," Kentucky said as he watched all the discussions going around.

Yet, a few seconds later, Xixie appeared in front of Rean and Kentucky. "Seniors, could one of you take my brother’s place?"

"Eh?" Rean and Kentucky truly didn’t expect that. "You do know that we could betray you, right? Even if we don’t, we have no obligation to take the tests seriously, so we might just give up whenever we want. We totally thought you would pick someone from your group."

Derfiu shook his head. "We have no choice. We brought another three members with us, but none of them is in the Divinity Realm. They were supposed to be outside support, that’s all."

Hoblio also made an offer. "Besides, you want to use BH1, don’t you? It is in your best interest to actually help Xixie. Even if someone else promises you the same thing, would you rather believe these guys from the central or us? You at least know a bit about us, and you could very well cause a lot of trouble for our Riquicious Empire in the future."

Rean and Kentucky looked at each other. They almost forgot that they came here with the premise of getting a free pass to BH1 in the Werdlem Universe. They obviously never told Xixie and her brothers that they had no interest in that. They just came here for Havira and nothing else. Finding Hick here was not planned.

’What do we do? Do we say we gave up BH1?’ Kentucky asked Rean through Divine Sense.

’Hum... I guess we can. What do you want to do? Truth be told, it doesn’t matter for us. If anything, this place can help one of us gain a little bit more fame,’ Rean didn’t refuse straight away.

Kentucky pondered a bit, looking at Xixie and the other princesses. ’Well, it was fun to watch, but I guess it will be even more fun to participate. Is that okay?’

’Sure,’ Rean shrugged. ’I will watch from here anyway. Let’s see what that prince has in mind.’

Finally, Kentucky stepped forward. "Since that’s the case, I’ll take the job. Who am I replacing?"

Hoblio stepped down. "That would be me. Derfiu is better at improvising, which could come in handy later."

Xixie sighed in relief. "Thank you, seniors. Of course, if something happens that puts Kentucky’s life in danger, he is free to give up straight away. Just please, do not betray me. Tell me what kind of offer you received, and I will see that you will be compensated in the same manner."

Kentucky smiled. Betrayal? Why would he do that? He has no lack of resources and doesn’t really need any Great Void Black Hole favours either. He is just going to enjoy his time. "Alright, I will see that you are informed if someone contacts me."

Xixie returned to the center, this time with Kentucky and Derfiu. Many of the princesses swapped their advisors with someone else from their own entourage and returned as well. Very few swapped advisors with other princesses, but that’s because both sides were allies of some sort, so they had their own agreements.

Havira did not return to the center with Lufua, though. Lufua had both Havira, who was a Peak Stage Divinity Realm Spirit, and Wispal, a Semi-Celestial Astral Wisp. As strong as Havira might be, she can’t use Celestial Laws, so it was obvious that Wispal would be Lufua’s choice. Other than Wispal, another Astral Wisp, by the name of Evanter, joined her in Havira’s place.

’Hey?! What is that?! Didn’t you say you wouldn’t participate?!’ Sure enough, Havira noticed Kentucky with Xixie.

Kentucky and Rean laughed. ’Hahaha! We didn’t expect one of us to participate either. Unfortunately, our premise is that we came here for the sake of BH1. You know it is a lie, but they don’t. We couldn’t refuse.’

’That’s not fair! You’d better let Lufua win!’ Havira complained.

’Let her win?’ Kentucky looked back at Havira. ’You seem to have forgotten that we made no promises. In any case, I don’t know why you are that worried. There are Celestial Realm Experts here. Could Lufua beat the princesses who had those kinds of advisors?’

’This...’ Havira obviously thought of that.

Rean helped her calm down. ’Don’t worry. That prince obviously noticed the same thing. It wouldn’t make any sense to give tests where your cultivation is the main factor. No one would beat those Celestial Realm Experts, after all. He is a prince of the Zential Empire, you know? He is not that idiotic.’

Havira calmed down and nodded. ’We will see...’

Ten minutes later, Zanbril returned to the stage. "Alright, time is up. Seems like everyone got their new advisors. The first test is a simple battle. Let’s see who has the strongest advisors!"

Havira immediately looked at Rean with a weird expression.

At the same time, Rean’s mouth twitched. ’Alright, maybe he is truly just an idiot.’
