Death… And Me

Chapter 4050: Step Back

Chapter 4050: Step Back

"Yes, I know most of you are thinking this is not fair. After all, there are three Celestial Realm Advisors and many Semi-Celestials," Zanbril continued. "However, I firmly believe that luck is part of one’s strength. Karma does exist. There are even a few races that cultivate it. This is a good opportunity to show you have destiny on your side. If you end up in the same zone as one of the Celestials, then you truly can only blame your lack of good karma."

Suddenly, a teleport formation appeared just in front of the stage as Zanbril smiled. At the same time, various holographic projections appeared all around the main hall, showing different landscapes. No doubt the fights would be transmitted to those who remain behind. "The advisors can come forward and enter the teleport. You will all be teleported to several zones prepared for this fight and be paired randomly, and no one will be able to intervene with your battle."

Zanbril continued. "Of course, we aren’t here to kill each other. So, if you decide to give up, just use your Divine Sense on one of the various receptors spread all over your fighting zones. You can even say something as simple as ’I give up,’ and the formations inside will send you back straight away."

Rean narrowed his eyes. ’He is lying.’

’Really?’ Kentucky wasn’t paying much attention. ’What is he lying about?’

’Everything up to the point he talked of luck and karma was okay. He was lying about the no-killing thing,’ Rean pointed out. ’Well, it is still up to you if you want to continue this or not.’

Kentucky wasn’t going to step back. ’I’m obviously going ahead. By the way, what if I am paired with a Semi-Celestial? Should I take it seriously?’

Rean pondered a bit. ’The Semi-Celestials are all related to the central powers of the Divine Realm. They are bound to be stronger than those from far away, like back in the Riquicious Empire. Try it out and see how things go. Worst-case scenario, just enter the Celestial Soul Dimensional Realm and come out of it by my side. Even a Celestial shouldn’t be able to stop you.’

’Got it!’ Kentucky quickly jumped into the formation, being the very first one to do so.

Seeing Kentucky disappearing, a Semi-Celestial immediately stepped on it. It’s possible that the pairs were not really selected randomly, but rather based on the order in which they stepped on it. If that’s the case, since Kentucky was a Divinity, he would be paired with Kentucky and get an easy win.

Too bad, though. Looking at the projections, it was obvious that he appeared in a different fighting zone. It didn’t show if Kentucky was there or not, but the landscape was completely different.

No one knew if there was some way of predicting which zone you would fall in, so the rest stopped waiting. Everyone began stepping onto the Teleport Formation, being teleported straight away. The three Celestials didn’t move and just watched it all leisurely. They knew that unless they ended up in the same zone, there was no chance of them losing.

Finally, they also walked over and disappeared. Now, only the princesses remained behind. However, it was also at that moment that Zanbril began to explain other parts of the test.

"Alright, they are gone. Those zones prevent anyone from communicating with them through any method." Following that, various collars began to appear in front of the princesses. "Put one of these collars. However, be aware that once you put them in, there is no turning back."

"What are these collars for?" One of the princesses asked. None of them has put on the collars yet.

Zanbril seemed to be having fun as he began to explain. "I lied about the escaping part. The only way any of them can leave those zones is if their opponent dies. However, the battle will not start until the princesses they are representing put on their collars."

Rean sighed. ’Sure enough, he was lying. There are likely no receptors or anything like that in those fighting zones. Kentucky, the projections aren’t showing who is paired with whom yet. What can you see?’

’There is a barrier separating me from my opponent,’ Kentucky answered. Zanbril would never have expected that Kentucky and Rean could communicate through Sister Orb. That’s something he could not block. ’Because of that barrier, I can’t tell what cultivation the guy up ahead has. He is definitely not one of the Celestials, though. I paid close attention to those three.’

Rean nodded. ’Well, what about the Celestial Soul Dimensional Realm? Can you enter it?’

’Yes,’ Kentucky confirmed. ’I can feel that my connection is intact. Well, it makes sense. Other than us, no one else has connected Dimensional Realms like we do. Or at least we never heard about it. If someone tries to run into their Pocket Dimensional Realms, their opponents can simply use the Spatial Entrances they left behind and destroy the Dimensional Realms from outside. The owners will simply die inside with the collapse of their Pocket Dimensional Realms.’

Rean thought so too. ’That’s true. Well, have fun out there.’

’You betcha!’ Kentucky was actually looking forward to it.

That conversation lasted just a second through their connection, so Zanbril was still explaining how that test would work. "It’s not only your advisor’s luck that will be tested, but also yours. If one of your advisors dies, you will suffer heavy damage to your cultivation, but you won’t die. However, if both advisors die, then you will die with them."

"Make your decision in the next minute. If you refuse to take part in this, just throw the collar away. I will see that your advisors are teleported back. Of course, that will also mean you are out of this wife selection. There will be no victory by desistance, though. The advisors who don’t have opponents anymore will be teleported to zones with other advisors in the same situation. Well, maybe there will be one victory by WO, in case there is an odd number of advisors in the end."

None of the princesses liked it, but at the same time, they couldn’t complain. Zanbril wasn’t forcing any of them to put on the collars. If they weren’t willing to try their luck, they could simply give up and go home.

Seeing that, Rean smiled. ’I was expecting half of the princesses to be eliminated in this test, but it seems like it will be a lot more.’

Then, he looked at Xixie. The final decision was hers, after all. Did she trust her luck? She wasn’t aware of Kentucky’s real strength, after all. That meant she believed she didn’t have a single Semi-Celestial on her side, and she was right.

Hoblio, who Kentucky replaced, was by Rean’s side, telling Xixie to give up. Rean mentally nodded at him. That was the right decision, given the circumstances. At least that showed he cared about his siblings.

Xixie looked at her collar, the time going down. She could hear Hoblio’s voice and many others. None of the princesses could see who their advisors’ opponents would be. As mentioned before, around 30% of the advisors were Semi-Celestials, not including the three Celestials. That meant the other 70% were Peak Stage Divinities.

Xixie would have to hope that at least Derfiu or Kentucky would be paired with another Divinity. Chances were on their side, but 30% of being paired with a Semi-Celestial or Celestial was still a significant chance of things going wrong. Not only that, just a single death would already be a great loss for Xixie, especially if it were her brother. She would lose both a family member and hurt her cultivation badly.

Last but not least, even if Kentucky and Derfiu were both paired with Divinities, who is to say they will win? This is the central region of the Divine Realm, so Divinities here are on average much stronger too.

Five seconds before the countdown was over, Xixie looked at Hoblio, smiling sweetly. "I can’t step back now, brother. Forgive me."

Then, she put on the collar.
