Death… And Me

Chapter 4185: The New Dawn Project

Chapter 4185: The New Dawn Project

"Ahem..." Default noticed he was dragged into the twins’ pace and quickly returned to the main topic. "As I was saying, I call it The Echo of the First Awakening. It is not a sentience, not a thing, not a will. Before the origin of everything in our Great Void, it suddenly just appeared. We, primordial beasts, came after it."

Default raised his palm in front of himself, and that same power from a moment ago seemed to accumulate on it. It was weird. They couldn’t see anything with their Divine Senses, Natural Spatial Perception, and Eyes. For all intents and purposes, there was nothing in Default’s palm. Yet, they could feel it. It was there. That same overwhelming existence.

"That’s the thing behind all the orders. The Echo, like Roan said. It is here, and it exists with and inside everything you know, even in your own thoughts."

Roan narrowed his eyes. "You said it has no will, and yet, it answered your call and let us go. It can at least follow orders itself, no? First of all, if it was what gave you the orders, how can it not have sentience?"

"That’s a good question," Default said and let go of that ’power’ in his hand. "That wasn’t really a response based on a will, but a reaction to the threat upon its own existence. The Echo exists all over the Great Void. As I said, it exists in everything. And once it is threatened, it will protect itself, and that happens through us, the Primordial Beasts. It is not wrong to say we are its children."

"Alright..." Rean saw everything. "That means the Werdlem Empire became a threat to the Echo. Thus, it called you to help get rid of the Werdlem Empire. That much makes sense. However, considering the strength it showed a moment ago, how come it didn’t act against the Empire by itself?"

"To answer that, we need to speak about the reason for us, Primordial Demon Beasts, to come here," Default continued.

Back then, the Primordial Beasts roamed the Great Void. One thing worth mentioning was that all the Primordial Beasts were bound to the Great Void. As the creators of this place, they were inherently connected to it all.

That didn’t mean they couldn’t leave it temporarily, though. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have cultivated beyond the Celestial Realm. They could leave for some time and roam the Celestial Plane, too. However, it could never be for extended periods of time, as it affected their very essence to stay away for too long. Thus, they spent most of their time in the Great Void, passing by the Celestial Plane only when they required resources, like the Celestial Stones Dofrei gave to the twins’ group.

On a certain day, all the previous twelve pillars received the call. It wasn’t through the Werdlem Network, obviously, as the Werdlem Network only worked in the Werdlem Empire. Instead, it was Default, using the power of The Echo to reach all of them.

Eventually, they reunited, although confused by that sudden call. As mentioned before, they couldn’t go against the order even if they wanted to. And Default didn’t tell them why they were gathered there. Of course, Default did tell them that they would attack the Werdlem Empire.

The objective was to use their power, which could still cause some ripples, to tear apart the Werdlem Universe, thereby causing the collapse of the Werdlem Empire. All twelve were beyond the Celestial Realm, so their ripples combined definitely could achieve that result.

Unfortunately, when they appeared, the Werdlem Empire was already waiting for them. The Bubble was activated, and the various types of countermeasures created for each of them were used. The Primordial Demon Beasts felt something touching their own essences, and the Bubble of the Werdlem Empire took form with their help.

Some of the twelve were able to escape to other regions of the Werdlem Empire, while others were captured and transferred to other parts too. Default, obviously, was very dangerous, and was put in the Great Void Black Hole. They lost their powers over time because of that.

What made them lose their power? Was that the imprisonment? No, truth be told, the prisons had nothing to do with it. Well, not the prisons that the twins’ group helped to free them from, at least. The Bubble, which existed because of them, was the real culprit.

Now that they are ’free’ inside the Bubble, they were able to recover some of their power. However...

"You probably noticed it already. There is a limit to how much power you can recover," Default explained.

Soltrex was the first one to confirm. "Yes. I’m not sure about the others, but I definitely won’t be able to get past the Celestial Realm."

The other Primordial Demon Beasts nodded. They, too, already felt the same.

Default continued. "Exactly. That’s because the Bubble uses our powers, our essences, to keep working. You could say that is another countermeasure to make sure we can’t escape this place."

Default resumed his explanation of the motive that dragged them here. As mentioned, the Werdlem Empire was doing something that threatened the very existence of the Great Void and The Echo.

"They called it The New Dawn Project. We were the pillars that created everything in the Great Void after The Echo’s appearance. Obviously, we lost our status as the Pillars, as the Great Void evolved and expanded enough for our presence to not be necessary anymore. What the Werdlem Empire wanted was to tap into the Primordial Laws that the twelve of us used to create everything else."

Roan narrowed his eyes. "What would they want with such a thing? And even if they wanted it, what’s the big deal? We use laws all the time."

Default agreed with him. "Indeed. The problem lies in their ambition. They didn’t want just to control these laws; they wanted to use them to create a new origin."

Default once again accumulated that weird power in his hand, the power of The Echo. "They wanted to substitute The Echo for an Echo of their own. An Echo that would ultimately control the entire Great Void, however they liked."
