Chapter 4292: Checking Out
With his cultivation at the Middle Stage of the Anchor God Realm, Roan managed to kill the alligators even though they were quite strong. Because of him, the ambushes in the water from the alligators also failed most of the time, which saved the hunting team from unnecessary losses and injuries.
Of course, because he wasn’t using the Yin Yang Sanctuary, there was a limit to what he could do now that he was entirely outside the Relic’s Influence. Roan could, at most, fight two Carcatira Alligators at the same time. But if he had to fight two, then it was hard to land a kill.
Still, since there were plenty of Anchor Gods here, and especially because they had an experienced leader, Roan was rarely even required to fight more than one at once. If he was, that was just to catch the alligators’ attention while the situation was being stabilized.
’Red Death, Death Cross!’
*Pling!*
*Pling!*
Roan’s Scythes reverberated as they struck the Alligator’s head. Even within these Godly Alligator Spawns, there were those stronger than others due to experience, age, defense, and such.
Roan quickly avoided the tail of the Alligator and kicked it from the side after filling his feet with Godly Energy. The alligator was forced to roll for a moment, which Roan used to strike again from underneath, where its defense was a lot weaker.
’Red Death, Crimson Moon!’
*Swish, swish!*
The two Crystal Void Scythes made a half-moon arc, hitting the throat and the belly at the same time. Slightly golden blood gushed out, and the alligator contorted in pain. It tried to attack Roan again, but Roan just stepped out of its range as the alligator pursued. In just a few seconds, the Alligator finally couldn’t resist the injuries anymore and fell.
Three cultivators quickly passed by Roan, lifted the Godly Spawn’s Body, and ran past Roan again with it. The material retrieving team was still working just fine.
During these missions, these roles where you could just jump in to take care of the dead bodies were quite sought after. They carried little risk and still paid quite well. For the more scared cultivators who still wanted to come out of the Sacred Relic’s Influence, that was one of the best choices.
All around, there were pretty much no more Godly Spawn Alligators left. They had combed the entire area where they had been sent for the mission. Sure, there were bound to be many left further from their hunting ground, but that was not part of the mission.
With his part done, Roan received a message from Wurshan, their leader for this guild mission. -You can come back already. The remaining alligators can be dealt with by the other Anchor Gods.-
Roan didn’t mind and walked away from there. He found Wurshan not too far away, who was helping a group of Anchor Gods against two alligators. The battle was going well, and Roan could tell they wouldn’t take long to kill those two Godly Spawns.
Finally, Wurshan finished one on his side and left the last Alligator for the Anchor Gods to take care of. Soon, he returned to Roan’s side. "Well done. We should be over with this mission in the next hour at most. Your Ring Communicator obviously recorded your contributions, so you can expect a big bonus at the end."
Roan wasn’t really into it for the Godly Crystals, not that he would complain. "That’s good. I’m surprised we haven’t seen a single Godly Beast, though. With this many Godly Spawns, I was expecting at least a few Godly Beasts from the same race leading them."
Wurshan agreed with him. "Indeed. I won’t complain since this made our mission much easier. Nonetheless, we should have found at least five to ten of them here by now."
The entire group of cultivators, not counting those who worked retrieving materials, was a little over a hundred. Wurshan wasn’t the only Aura God either. There were six Aura Gods dispatched in total. It’s just that the Aura Gods were left in reserve for when these Godly Beast Alligators appeared.
Since you needed five Anchor Gods for a single Godly Spawn, it made sense you needed five or so Aura Gods for each Godly Beast. Yet, those extra five Aura Gods never had to come out to work. Not that they didn’t want to. They inquired with the leader of the mission, Wurshan, if they should just help the Anchor Gods instead.
Wurshan was the one to refuse. As good as the idea seemed, his main priority was the safety of the hunting entourage. If the Aura Gods were busy helping the Anchor Gods and a Godly Beast appeared, there could be unnecessary deaths.
Different from what you expect from a cultivation world, your reward won’t go up just because fewer people finished the job. That was also to discourage any idiotic ideas like killing your entire group without leaving any evidence to receive everyone’s reward alone. Besides, the tiny regions like Besgol were often united for the same reason, so such things were already hard to occur.
Roan pondered a bit. "Could it be something to do with the last Godly Horde?"
"Highly doubt so," Wurshan shook his head. "It has been a while already, more than enough for these areas to return to their usual number of Godly Beasts. The weird thing is that the Godly Spawns’ numbers are normal. haven’t seen anything different."
Roan quickly thought about his conversation with Flantoihy, the elder responsible for the Wangamiglia Sect’s Mission Hall. He told Roan’s group how there was a sudden appearance of Godly Predators inside the areas near the end of the Relic’s Influence. The one they killed was one of those.
In the end, Wurshan decided to not think too much. "In any case, the mission will be over when the Anchor Gods finish these Godly Spawns in this place."
Roan thought about it and decided to open the map of the area they were in. Then, he marked down all the places they had hunted the Carcatira Alligators so far.
The area they were in, obviously, was full of lakes, rivers, and such, almost like a swamp. That was the perfect environment for those Godly Spawns. But then, he noticed something.
"What about this open space here?" Roan asked, sending Wurshan the location through the Ring Communicator.
Wurshan took a quick look and shook his head in the end. "That’s where you would find these alligators’ eggs and nests. The Alligators only go there to lay their eggs before leaving, so the area is pretty empty. We have gone there before, but there isn’t much to gain. Besides, we would rather let the eggs hatch so we can have more marrow for future missions."
"I see..." Roan found no flaw in that logic. Still, he couldn’t help but wonder if those Godly Beasts were there for some reason. "Would it make any difference if we found the Godly Beasts? Does the mission change?"
"Not really. The mission was all about the bone marrow of the Godly Spawns. At most, we will get some extra Godly Crystals since Godly Beast Crystals are worth more. " Wurshan shrugged.
Finally, Roan decided to take a look. "We aren’t too far, and even after killing the rest here, you will need a few hours to sort out everything. I’ll go there to investigate. Of course, I need your permission as the leader of this hunting group."
"It is not a bad idea. But be careful," said Wurshan. "Just the information is enough, so we can update the report. Don’t attract them back here in case you really find them there."
"Understood."
