Chapter 3046: Defeat

Chapter 3046: DefeatEditor: Nyoi-Bo Studio

Finally succeeded!

The Elven warriors finally breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing this.

The special effect of the Hunting Arrow dealt with enemies below elite level: as long as the enemy’s HP dropped below 15%, it caused an instant explosion that killed them outright.

The three princes’ faces also showed excitement.

Since the Disaster began, this was the first time they truly killed a mutant worm creature.

However, the excitement on the three princes’ faces lasted only a few seconds before it quickly turned into an overwhelming seriousness.

Hmm?

What was that?

Looking closely, the bloodied remains of the shattered swarm on the ground gradually split into countless tiny red worm bodies.

The threadworm larvae quickly condensed on the ground into flesh cocoons.

Within seconds, mutant worm creatures crawled out again from the broken flesh cocoons and rejoined the battlefield.

What the hell!?

They revived?

The Elven soldiers were shocked beyond belief.

They had never seen such terrifying mutant worms before.

Even after using the Hunting Arrows to shatter them, they somehow revived on the spot with some terrifying ability?

How were they supposed to fight like this?

Fang Heng stood behind the swarm, watching the battlefield, a cold smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.

The instant kill effect of the Hunting Arrow somewhat restrained the "Undead" effect.

But only that.

The Lickers he sent to fight on the front line had been perfectly optimized.

The "Undead" effect was only a layer of protection.

There was still a second layer of red worm effect.

After death, the mutant worm formed tiny red worms which automatically formed flesh cocoons. After a brief incubation, the Lickers could directly complete their resurrection.

Even if someone managed to break through the second layer and completely kill the red worms, there was still a third layer of defense.

The original devouring body.

When the red worm died, it formed original devouring body slime at the spot, which could quickly resurrect into phase two red worms or even return to the Licker form depending on the situation.

The elves had only accidentally countered the first layer of the undead form.

There were still two more resurrection forms left, enough to trouble the elves for quite some time!

Just as Fang Heng predicted, the elves were completely stunned.

They had only accidentally broken through the first "Undead" effect.

The mutant worm swarm seemed impossible to kill in their eyes.

Originally, the Hunting Arrows switched back to knockback arrows to try to buy more time.

A dense arrow rain fell, pushing back many Lickers.

However, more Lickers continued to chase after them.

They couldn’t hold them off!

The swarm visibly advanced step by step toward the ancient Tree of Life area.

The Elven king stared at the surging mutant worm swarm, an unusual expression flashing in his eyes.

They were all elite-level mutant worms.

Definitely SSS-level Disaster creatures.

They couldn’t stop them!

Could the premonitions really be true?

Would the entire Elven race really perish in the Disaster?

Boom! Boom! Boom!!

Just as the Licker swarm was about to reach the outskirts of the Elven defensive line, the ancient Tree of Life stirred violently. The ground churned, and numerous roots and tendrils burst forth!

Some pierced, some swept, pushing back large groups of approaching Lickers. Thin vines crazily spread from underground over the fungal mats, entangling several front-line Lickers and dragging them forcibly underground to be buried forever!

The Elven king squinted.

There was still the Tree of Life!

They still had a chance to fight!

The elves finally found a way to deal with the Licker swarm—continuously use ranged knockback arrows to scatter the mutant worm formation, letting the Tree of Life act as the final finishing move.

A beautiful plan.

But soon, the elves noticed another anomaly ahead in the mutant worm swarm.

The creatures in the rear suddenly changed form, pressing their bodies tightly against the fungal mats, piercing their limbs into the mats. Their spinal bones rose high, forming many black gun barrels.

Once the Lickers entered this setup state, their bodies were completely fixed to the ground, and the Elven knockback arrows lost all effect against them.

Some elves recognized this move, and their expressions changed.

"Bad, they are about to launch ranged attacks."

"Whoosh whoosh!"

Just then, dense streams of red condensed bio artillery fired from the Lickers’ spines toward the vines, roots, and elves defending the ancient Tree of Life.

"Buzz!!!"

The ancient Tree of Life blossomed with a cyan-green glow, firmly protecting an area inside itself with a barrier.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!!"

The concentrated biological cannonballs exploded repeatedly on the barrier, causing massive damage.

Blessed by the ancient Tree of Life, the swarm’s assault was temporarily halted and unable to advance.

However, the roots trying to attack the swarm were heavily bombarded and destroyed, greatly reducing the tree’s offensive capability.

More and more swarm creatures surged toward the front lines.𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

For a time, both sides exchanged continuous ranged bombardments, turning the battle into a war of attrition.

Fang Heng still chose not to act. He hid behind the Licker swarm, watching quietly without any tactics, simply gathering the Lickers to fiercely bombard the tree’s barrier, roots, and vines.

Heh.

So this is the Tree of Life, huh?

Fang Heng smirked.

From the tree, he saw Abe Akaya’s shadow.

Indeed, very strong.

Both offense and defense were powerful, able to threaten the Licker swarm and rely on the barrier to block their advance.

But what about the cost?

Sustained high-intensity combat consumed energy.

Fang Heng’s goal was to accelerate the tree’s energy depletion and hasten its decline!

Let’s see how long you can hold on!

The elite elves all realized this; their expressions darkened.

The Elven king and several elders felt tremendous pressure.

They hadn’t expected the battle to turn out this badly. They exchanged worried looks.

The Disaster was far stronger than they had anticipated.

They thought that relying on the Tree of Life would break the swarm, but now all they could do was hold off the swarm’s invasion.

The Tree of Life was already weakening rapidly.

Such large-scale consumption would only make its condition worse.

How long could they hold on?

The key was, they had no way to truly kill the mutant worms.

Every time they seemed to have killed them, the worms quickly restored themselves into flesh cocoons and hatched again, joining the frontline.

The elite Elven warriors had started using magic arrows to intercept the condensed bio artillery in midair, detonating it before it reached the tree.

Since they couldn’t kill the mutant worms for now, intercepting the biological cannons to reduce pressure on the tree’s defensive barrier was the practical move.

Soon, the battlefield became one-sided.

The mutant worm swarm attacked wildly while the elves were forced to hide behind the barrier, occasionally using the Tree of Life’s vines to reduce the swarm’s numbers.

How long could this last?

Defeat was inevitable!

At this critical moment, no one in the Elven leadership dared to mock the ancient mural translations about the Disaster anymore.
