Chapter 3318: The Church’s MissionEditor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
"Of course, my believers."
"Shadow God, which mission should I accept?"
Fang Heng examined the rows of mission descriptions on the bulletin board and asked, "Which mission offers the highest overall monetary reward?"
"It’s hard to say. Missions issued by the Netherworld roughly fall into three categories. One is collection missions, where we enter a Netherworld area to gather medicinal ingredients or minerals unique to the Netherworld."
"The second type involves repairing seals in dangerous zones."
Adam explained, "Apart from the Netherworld temples, these mainly target the seals suspended in the high atmosphere of the Netherworld. Under the influence of the Netherworld aura, these seals gradually develop breaches. Most breaches do not affect the seals themselves, but if left unchecked, they grow larger over time, eventually impacting the integrity of the seal."
"The third type is combat missions. One kind reduces the density of Netherworld creatures in a given area, basically clearing specific zones of creatures. A more difficult variant requires eliminating high-tier creatures of specific levels."
"Sometimes, the Netherworld spawns exceptionally strong creatures. If they are left unchecked, their strength increases over time, affecting the seals. After gathering intelligence, the temple issues extermination missions periodically."
"The remaining missions are more miscellaneous, including area exploration, reconnaissance, searching for missing personnel, and collecting auras..."
Fang Heng looked up thoughtfully.
He had not expected the church to manage the Netherworld in such a loose way.
As for the missions, the church continued its consistent ’more effort, more reward’ approach.
The higher the mission difficulty, the greater the reward.
Scanning the mission board, Adam noticed that the material-gathering missions involved extremely high-level items, many of which he had never seen before.
Too troublesome. Gathering materials would take too long, so he decided to skip them for now.
The remaining options were combat missions or seal-repair missions.
He could give them a try.
Fang Heng quickly selected a mission with a decent point reward, saying, "Mission No. 69."
Upon hearing this, Adam instinctively looked up at the corresponding mission panel.
Ah?!
Seeing the mission description, his heart skipped a beat. He lowered his head and whispered, "Mission No. 69 is a high-difficulty team mission."
Zane said, "So what then? Believer, it seems you have doubts. Your faith is not devout enough."
Adam shivered and said, "No, no, respected Shadow God, you might not understand. This mission is in a C-tier dangerous zone, where many undead creatures are present."
"So?"
"Repairing a seal in the Netherworld releases energy fluctuations, which provoke the hostility of undead creatures. Completing this mission requires team cooperation."
Adam wanted to point out that this mission was not meant for trainee Oracles.
Normally, such missions required a Tier 2 oracle to lead a team, gathering 6–8 oracles to complete it together.
And he?
Just a trainee oracle?
What a joke!
Wouldn’t that be equivalent to sending him to his death?
"Fear not, believer. You have the blessing of the Shadow God. Go quickly."
Adam’s face turned grim.
Could he really do it?
With only the two Tier 2 soul warrior spirits at his disposal, plus the four granted by the Shadow God, he had only six Tier 2 soul warrior spirits in total.
It was impossible to win.
Indeed, the Shadow God was terrifying in this world, but that was in the Netherworld!
What if the Shadow God’s power could not reach the Netherworld?
He would be finished.
Zane sensed Adam’s hesitation and snorted, speaking sternly, "Believer, what are you doubting? Go now!"
"Yes!"
With no other choice, Adam braced himself and went to the counter to accept the mission, receiving the mission teleportation tag from the clerk.
"Shadow God, we are heading to the Netherworld teleportation zone."
Halfway to the basement, Adam gradually collected his thoughts.
He would just enter the Netherworld first and see.
If the Shadow God’s power could not reach it, he would abandon the mission.
He could endure losing the mission completion points and personal reward, but losing his life would be too costly.
While thinking, Adam entered the underground teleportation zone.
On the hall floor, descent teleportation magic arrays were marked with corresponding numbers.
Adam nervously stepped into a large descent array and nodded slightly to the priest beside him, "Sir, I am ready."
"Just you alone?"
The priest looked at Adam in surprise.
Adam’s expression was odd, but he nodded with difficulty and summoned six accompanying Tier 2 soul warrior spirits.
The priest frowned even more.
A team mission, and he was going alone?
"Do not force it."
Seeing Adam remain silent, the priest shrugged and said, "If you are ready, we will begin."
The magic array under Adam’s feet glowed with dark golden light, gradually enveloping him until he completely disappeared from the Great Hall.
...
Netherworld.
Adam and the six soul warrior spirits entered the Netherworld via the descent passage, with holy armor appearing on their bodies.
Large numbers of evil spirit bones gathered around.
Sensing the holy aura radiating from Adam’s armor, the evil spirit bones avoided him.
Adam quickly raised his hand, commanding the soul warrior spirits to form a protective circle around him, silently murmuring, "Shadow God, are you here?"
"Of course," Zane said with authority, "The power of the Shadow God is everywhere."
Adam’s heart skipped a beat, utterly astonished.
He had always thought the Netherworld was a place even gods could barely influence, according to textbooks and folklore.
Yet the Shadow God’s power penetrated it so easily?
Could the Shadow God’s power be stronger than that of the Gods?
"I apologize, Shadow God. I am your loyal believer. I should not have doubted your power."
Adam hurriedly confessed.
"Humph. I will spare you this once."
Adam exhaled, looking around and focusing on a distant high area, "Shadow God, that should be the damaged seal area described in the mission. I need to repair it."
"Go." Fang Heng said calmly. "You just focus on it. Leave the rest to me."
Adam immediately moved toward the area where the aura of death was concentrated.
Upon entering the sealed area, Fang Heng looked up and saw a stretch of sealing chains in the sky, corroded by the prolonged presence of death aura, with damage reaching a thickness of three layers.
Even so, the sealing chain’s effectiveness remained intact.
Fang Heng sensed roughly that there were still over three hundred layers of sealing chains behind him.
With such minor damage, even if left for ten or twenty more years, the corrosion would remain limited and pose no fundamental threat.
