Chapter 3342: Killing IntentEditor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
The situation was bad!
The bishop’s expression darkened, and he immediately signaled everyone to prepare for battle.
There were too many soul warrior spirits. In just a few moments, Bishop Maxim and his group were completely surrounded in the center.
Soon, a path opened up among the soul warrior spirits.
"Bishop Maxim, what brings you here?"
Maxim raised his head and looked at Adam, who stepped out from among the heroic spirits. His eyes grew heavy and solemn as he asked in a deep voice, "What is going on here? Were these soul warrior spirits all summoned by Nois? Where is he?"
Adam did not answer. He slowly turned his head toward Caleb among the crowd, "Was it you who brought the bishop here?"
For no reason, Caleb felt a pang of guilt in his heart and shouted angrily, "So what if I did! Adam! The bishop is speaking to you—what tricks are you playing here? Report everything truthfully to the bishop at once!"
"Forgive me, Bishop." Adam turned his gaze back to Maxim and shook his head slightly. "You should not have come here, believing in slander."
"What do you mean?"
"The command of the Shadow God—anyone who is not a follower of the Shadow God and dares to step into this place..."
As Adam spoke, he slowly raised his hand, his eyes glinting with killing intent.
"Kill!"
At his command, the holy long swords in the hands of the surrounding soul warrior spirits erupted with blazing holy light, almost simultaneously charging toward Bishop Maxim’s team!
"Adam! Are you insane!? You dare to attack the bishop?!"
Herr was shocked and immediately led his team to counterattack the horde of soul warrior spirits.
But because the city church’s team was too few in number, they were unable to break through and were forced to stay trapped in place.
Herr fixed his gaze tightly on Adam, trying to read something from him.
Since the establishment of the Holy Church, there had never been a record of such a crazed heretic as Adam.
Adam did not speak. He stood quietly behind the dense ranks of soul warrior spirits, remotely controlling them to attack.
Herr, already at Tier 10, saw that instead of being depleted, the enemy soul warrior spirits were increasing in number, seemingly endless. His eyes flashed with anger, and he shouted coldly, "Divine Favor Squad, follow me—kill Adam!"
"Yes!"
Not far behind Adam, the phantoms of Fang Heng and Zane appeared.
"It’s blown up big..." Zane muttered softly. "Looks like it’s a secret operation from the Church. The City Lord’s mansion hasn’t received any news. Brother Fang Heng, what should we do?"
"Since we’ve been discovered, we might as well wipe them all out and save ourselves future trouble."
"So ruthless?" Zane said suspiciously. "These people are from the city’s main church. If we kill all of them, there will surely be endless trouble afterward."
"Whatever. With the City Lord’s mansion on our side, we can still delay for a while. Besides, the Church’s bureaucracy is always slow. By the time the news reaches the regional church and they send someone to investigate, we’ll have at least a month—more than enough to do many things."
"Hehe, so Brother Fang Heng already had it planned. Guess I was just being nosy."
At the center of the battlefield, Herr led a dozen Tier 9 oracles forward, charging straight at Adam under the protection of several high-tier heroic spirits.
A decapitation strike!
There were too many soul warrior spirits, almost endless. If this continued, they would all be exhausted to death.
Killing Adam might be their only chance of survival!
Adam looked coldly at Herr’s group rushing toward him, his gaze calm, as though he were watching a group of dead men.
These people.
If they had chosen to run, they might have had a sliver of hope.
And yet they still dared to charge?
Truly ignorant of their limits.
Adam slowly raised his hand and said in an icy voice, "Submit yourselves to the power of the Shadow God."
Hm!? What?
Herr’s pupils suddenly contracted.
He suddenly perceived several dark flashes emerging from the shadows ahead.
From within the dense ripple of deathly power, several dim figures appeared.
Underworld Hunters!
"Swish!"
Cross Reversal Strike!
"Boom!!"
The layer of holy shield covering Herr’s body exploded in a burst of blinding light.
The impact from the shattered holy protection blasted Herr sideways through the air.
At the same time, Underworld Hunters emerged from the shadows, swiftly appearing behind Herr’s squad.
"Boom! Boom, boom, boom!"
Crimson inverted crosses struck the outer layer of the oracles’ holy armor, breaking through it one after another and hurling the team members backward. The soul warrior spirits that had been guarding them were even less resilient—under the Underworld Hunters’ ambush, combined with the double impact of the Hidden Strike and Cross Reversal Slash, they were shattered one after another.
Herr had barely stabilized his body when he looked up and saw his high-tier soul warrior spirits being destroyed in succession. His pupils trembled violently.
Underworld Hunters were strong, but not to such a terrifying degree, were they?
A single strike that nearly shattered his outer holy armor—this level of attack strength was already comparable to a commander-level Netherworld creature.
And in that endless dark aura, just how many Underworld Hunters were there?
It was impossible to tell by perception alone!
"Retreat!"
Herr roared and began to retreat frantically.
The Underworld Hunters kept appearing behind his fellow oracles, breaking their holy armor and blasting them away.
Not good!
The Netherworld was filled with a high concentration of the aura of death. Once the holy armor was broken, the oracles’ own holy barriers could not last long.
"Bishop... It’s them! They’re the ones who attacked us outside the temple before!"
Caleb, who was surrounded not far away, saw the Underworld Hunters appear again, and fear filled his eyes.
But compared to half a month ago—back then, there had been only a dozen of them. Now, he saw shadow after shadow of Underworld Hunters flashing across the air, striking from stealth and vanishing again into the darkness.
He could not tell how many there were, but it felt like at least several hundred!
Bishop Maxim was also terrified, cold sweat forming on his forehead.
He could not understand what was happening at all.
The enemies were a combined force of soul warrior spirits and Underworld Hunters?
At the very least, it appeared that Adam was controlling a large number of Netherworld creatures!
"Activate the barrier! Begin the emergency Descent teleportation ritual—once they return, we retreat immediately!"
"Yes!"
The oracles who had been fighting on the periphery quickly fell back and regrouped in the center of the formation. Several Tier 8 priests accompanying the team closed their eyes and began forming hand seals in front of them.
"Buzz...!"
A beam of holy light descended from the sky, forming a holy barrier that swiftly enveloped Bishop Maxim.
The descending protective barrier gave Caleb a slight sense of security. He looked up again and saw Herr leading more than a dozen Tier 8 oracles, running desperately toward the barrier while being chased by the Underworld Hunters.
Herr watched helplessly as his companions around him were struck down by Underworld Hunters leaping out from the shadows, dragged into the darkness, and disappearing completely—while he could do nothing.
It was not that he did not want to help. He simply could not.
