Chapter 3559: The Source of DeathEditor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
Using the penetrating effect of the God’s Eye, Fang Heng quickly entered the cavern passage beneath the mountain range.
The cavern entrance had been set at the foot of the mountain.
There was also a holy barrier on the outer layer.
Just as Fang Heng arrived not far from the entrance, he saw several members of the God Clan leaving from the entrance, gathering toward the undead vortex rippling high in the sky.
It seemed they had been drawn away by the undead vortex.
Fang Heng flashed to the outside of the passage and pressed a hand against the barrier at the entrance.
Origin Power surged forth, and the barrier rapidly dissolved, revealing a breach.
It worked.
Fang Heng flashed into the mountain passage and quickly moved forward along it.
The entire grotto passage had been excavated to a great size, and the rock walls were covered with a thick layer of holy defensive barrier.
Soon, after passing through the tunnel, a large grotto appeared ahead. Two members of the God Clan were guarding inside the cavern.
The God Clan guards seemed uneasy.
Just moments ago, an anomaly had occurred in the undead vortex outside. The Captain had led others to provide reinforcement, leaving only the two of them behind.
There shouldn’t be any trouble with the Netherworld Vortex, right?
One of the God Clan members was thinking this when he suddenly frowned and looked toward the cavern entrance.
"Who’s there!"
Seeing that the newcomer was also a member of the God Clan, the guards relaxed slightly.
However, Fang Heng’s face was unfamiliar.
They had never seen him before.
"You are?"
"The Death Vortex showed an anomaly. The Captain sent me to check the situation."
Fang Heng looked hurried as he walked forward quickly. His gaze swept across the faces of the two God Clan members, then shifted to the four large magic arrays arranged on the ground behind them, and a trace of surprise appeared in his eyes.
There were four giant-sized magic arrays, three small and one large. The smaller ones were each over fifty meters in diameter and arranged in a regular triangle, while the largest, over one hundred meters wide, lay at the center of the triangle.
The magic arrays were operating continuously.
From within them, dense, twisted soul bodies constantly rose, drifting slowly into the air and gathering into a smoke-like torrent of souls. They were then absorbed by the base of a stone pillar engraved with incantations on the ceiling of the grotto.
Fang Heng narrowed his eyes.
Now he finally understood where the soul bodies above the mountain had come from.
Noticing the suspicious looks from the two guards, Fang Heng spoke first, "The magic arrays haven’t been affected, have they?"
The God Clan guard shook his head. "No problems for now."
"Mm. I need to check to ensure safety."
As Fang Heng walked forward, he suddenly heard a faint dripping sound beside his ear.
"Drip!"
His pupils suddenly contracted as he looked up toward the right side of the rock wall ceiling.
In that domain, directly above where the two God Clan members were standing guard, besides the dense magic array runes carved into the ceiling, the bottom of a massive cylinder protruded.
Traces of undead aura gathered at the center of the magic array at the cylinder’s base, condensing into a droplet that slowly fell downward.
Directly below, on the grotto floor at the corresponding position, was a bowl-sized hole.
It was the Source of Death.
The Source of Death happened to drip into the hole.
A flash of realization struck Fang Heng’s mind. He instantly connected it to the stone pillars on the mountain that linked to the Death Vortex, and he understood their function.
They not only transported undead but could also convert death strength.
Death strength cycled continuously through the undead vortex disc. The largest sealing stone pillar absorbed part of the strength, reinfusing the source power of the undead back into the Netherworld to maintain its operation. The excess was collected by the countless stone pillars scattered across the mountain, eventually gathering at a single point to form the power of the Source of Death.
It seemed the God Clan had collected all the excess Source of Death power.
What were they planning to do?
Was this their true purpose in sealing the death realm?
One mystery had just been solved, yet several more now lingered in his mind.
Fang Heng looked toward the hole on the ground.
It did not appear to have been artificially excavated. It was only bowl-sized, precisely aligned with where the Source of Death dripped. There were clearly no barriers or magic arrays around it, yet any perception approaching it would be swallowed.
No wonder it had not been discovered earlier.
Fang Heng’s breathing became slightly rapid. He walked toward the Source of Death while asking, "What about the Source of Death? No anomalies?"
"I already told you, everything here is perfectly fine. There are no anomalies." One of the God Clan guards was growing impatient. Staring at Fang Heng, he asked, "How is the situation outside?"
"The Netherworld Vortex produced a violent ripple. The exact cause is still unclear. It’s suspected that something may have gone wrong with the Source of Death magic array here, so I was sent to check..."
"No! That’s impossible!"
Another God Clan guard said firmly, "We’ve been guarding in shifts. No outsider has ever approached this place. There can’t be any problem. And you—who is your Captain? Who sent you?"
"Shh. Quiet."
Fang Heng interrupted him, his expression grave. Passing by the two of them, he carefully approached the edge of the hole where the Source of Death dripped and looked down into it.
He couldn’t see clearly.
The God’s Eye in his right eye spun rapidly.
Still nothing.
The hole was extremely strange. Its interior was pitch black, completely impossible to see through. Even perception was directly swallowed. He could only vaguely discern alchemy magic array runes at the outermost layer of the opening.
Fang Heng simply crouched down, raised his hand, and opened his palm toward the Source of Death below the hole.
"Chi! Chi chi!!!"
The Source of Death strength was affected and surged rapidly toward him.
It came!
Fang Heng’s pupils contracted.
Although he could not perceive it, he had successfully drawn the Source of Death strength toward himself.
In an instant, the surging Source of Death strength poured into his body.
But it was completely different from when he had previously absorbed the power of hell. At that time, he had possessed the Eye of Hell within his body and could use it to absorb the Source of Hell strength.
Now, the Source of Death strength had nowhere to be stored and could only be forcibly contained within his body.
His physical body could not retain too much of the forcibly stored Source of Death energy, and he was currently in a sacred study state.
For a moment, faint black cracks appeared across Fang Heng’s body.
The two God Clan guards had been watching Fang Heng the entire time. Seeing black patterns begin to surface on his body and even a death aura overflow, their expressions changed drastically.
This kid had a problem.
"Hey! What are you doing!"
Seeing that Fang Heng still ignored them, one guard walked toward him and reached out to press a hand on his shoulder. "I’ll ask you one more time—who sent you?"
The hidden power of Death that Fang Heng had absorbed was already nearing its limit. He said, "Elder Ulysses."
The two guards froze and looked at each other. One of them immediately said firmly, "No! Impossible!"
Whoosh!
In the next instant, Fang Heng suddenly made his move. He abruptly turned his head. The holy power around him rapidly receded, replaced by a terrifying undead strength that surged forth as he reached out with one hand to grab the God Clan guard.
