Chapter 3636: Gathering

Chapter 3636: GatheringEditor: Nyoi-Bo Studio

"Don’t panic! Gather up! Gather up! All ships, gather up! Move closer and kill those monsters!"

Drank had never encountered a situation like this before. Seeing his allies’ ships thrown into chaos under the monsters’ attack, he immediately shouted for his subordinates to regroup.

His ship was positioned farther back and had not yet come under attack from the Lickers, so he ordered the sailors to move toward the ships ahead to provide support.

However, before they could get close enough to assist their allies, two or three scattered Lickers leapt over from the ships in front and landed on their deck.

"Chi!!!"

The Lickers moved with terrifying speed. A swipe of their claws instantly tore one pirate apart, and the thick stench of blood quickly spread across the ship.

In an instant, the flagship also descended into chaos.

With the pirates’ level of skill, they were completely unable to control the Lickers. In the blink of an eye, more than ten of them had already died.

"D*mn it! Move aside! I’ll do it!"

Watching his men die one after another, Drank was filled with shock. He roared and swung the skull saber in his hand at a Licker’s back.

"Boom!!"

What the hell!?

Drank’s blade slashed across the Licker’s spine, but the impact felt as though he had struck solid steel. A violent recoil surged back through his arms, forcing him to stagger backward two steps before he could steady himself.

What the hell was this monster made of? How was it this hard?

That strike had felt like chopping into a steel plate. The Licker’s back had only been left with a faint white mark.

"Whoosh!!!"

The Licker’s claws pierced straight through a crewman’s heart. Then it spun around and lunged directly at Drank.

Drank’s pupils contracted sharply again. He gritted his teeth, tightened his grip on the blade, and forced himself to meet the attack head-on.

"Bang!!!!"

His saber collided with the Licker’s razor-sharp claws. A far more terrifying force surged through the impact, and for the first time in his life, Drank’s blade was knocked clean out of his hand. A storm of shock rose in his heart.

"Protect the chief!"

The pirates rushed forward to reinforce him, blocking the Licker’s path of pursuit.

Just as the Licker was slaughtering the pirates in a frenzy, black seawater quickly spread up from beneath the deck, snaking along the planks and winding around the Licker’s legs. Before it was noticed, it was tightly bound in place.

"Huff... huff..."

Supported by his aide, Drank struggled back to his feet. He stared at the Licker, gasping heavily, fear showing in his eyes.

What kind of monster was this thing?

Even he could not defeat it, let alone these ordinary pirates.

"Chief, are you alright?"

Drank turned to look at Dilia beside him.

At that moment, Dilia’s eyes had already turned sea-blue. Borrowing the power of the god, she barely managed to pin the three Lickers that had invaded the ship in place, leaving them unable to move.

Several pirate crewmen rushed forward one after another and hacked at them with all their strength, but still could not break through the Lickers’ defenses.

Drank looked up again. Less than two minutes had passed since the battle began, and the remaining pirate ships on the sea had already been almost completely wiped out by the Lickers. Under their assault, the pirates were collapsing at terrifying speed.

Where had these monsters come from?

Why had he never heard of them before?

Had they been sent specifically to target the Skeleton Guild?

A chill quietly rose in Drank’s heart.

"Retreat! Fall back now!"

Drank turned and shouted, "Pray to the gods! Borrow the gods’ power! Get away from those monsters!"

"Yes!"

Blue light appeared at the bows of the ships that had not yet been boarded by the Lickers, and they immediately accelerated as they fled toward the rear.

"Oh?"

High above, Fang Heng lowered his head and focused his gaze on the few Lickers being restrained aboard Drank’s ship. The God’s Eye in his right eye spun rapidly.

"A god? The power of faith?"

This was a special form of power, a fusion of elemental force and the power of faith.

Interesting.

Unfortunately, the energy intensity on this ship was too low. Compared to holy faith or infernal faith, it was lacking by more than just a little.

It had not even formed an independent power system yet.

Fang Heng gave a cold snort and quickly descended toward the pirate flagship below.

"Not good! He’s coming after us!"

The lookout in the sentry tower saw Fang Heng relentlessly pursuing their ship from behind. His heart pounded wildly as he shouted, "All hands on alert! Enemy approaching!"

The pirates looked up nervously into the sky, gripping their sabers tightly.

Whoosh!

In the next instant, Fang Heng stepped across space itself and landed directly on the deck, coming to a stop in front of Chief Drank.

What?

Drank instantly felt as though death itself had fixed its gaze upon him. His body rose uncontrollably into the air.

The surrounding pirates were startled and immediately surrounded Fang Heng.

"Stand down! Fall back!"

Drank came to his senses and quickly shouted for the pirates to retreat.

"A wise choice." Fang Heng looked coldly at Drank. A layer of iridescent light covered his eyes as he used psychic influence to affect Drank’s mind.

"I ask. You answer."

Drank nodded frantically.

"What is the statue at the bow?"

"It is a god."

"Go on."

"A god is the symbol of a deity. It possesses the deity’s power. As long as we offer faith and sacrificial offerings to the god, we can obtain the god’s power."

As Drank spoke, the corner of his eye shifted toward Dilia standing behind Fang Heng, and his eyelids twitched slightly.

Dilia’s eyes had turned pitch black as she drew upon the god’s power with all her strength.

Black seawater slowly seeped out from the cracks in the deck, gathering behind Fang Heng and flowing toward his feet.

Drank was tense beyond measure. He desperately wanted to stop Dilia, but he forcefully suppressed the impulse and said nothing.

Fang Heng seemed completely unaware of the black water gathering behind him. He merely said coldly, "Continue."

Drank continued, "Different gods can protect ships from the horrors lurking in the ocean. They can also provide various effects, including defense and enhancements. The god statue on our ship can temporarily increase the ship’s sailing speed..."

The black water creeping up behind Fang Heng suddenly struck, surging onto his body.

Fang Heng remained standing in place, as if he were about to be completely swallowed by the black water.

It worked?!

Drank’s heart jolted.

"Boom!!!"

In the next instant, the black liquid surrounding Fang Heng exploded apart. At the same time, Dilia, who had been controlling the black water, spat out a mouthful of blood and was sent flying backward.

Fang Heng did not even spare Dilia a glance. He stared at Drank and continued asking, "What is this black water?"

"Gulp..."

Drank swallowed hard. The fear in his eyes deepened even further as he looked at Fang Heng.

Even Dilia had...

"Dilia was an ocean priest. She possessed the power to commune with the gods. Through sacrifice, she bound her life to become a follower of the gods, allowing her to obtain greater divine power..." Drank no longer dared to hide anything and explained, "Controlling black water was one of her manifested abilities."
