Chapter 1421: Do you wish to accept the Eternal System’s offer?

Chapter 1421: Do you wish to accept the Eternal System’s offer?

Alex's eyes narrowed as she examined the golden droplet hovering in Liam's hand. The air around it shimmered faintly as if reality itself hesitated to touch it. She didn't reach for it right away—her transcendent senses stretched forward first, probing the liquid from all sides.

But the next second, the liquid unravelled completely, coming undone in Liam's hand. It looked like a divine affinity was all it required to unlock the droplet. The paladin must have really believed the illusion to have simply handed over the treasure just like that.

This was good news because this meant Mia's soul mark was also in their possession.

"Let's wait first before opening the soul mark. I need to prepare more for that." Liam explained.

Alex nodded. She was impatient in getting to Mia, especially when they were so close to her but she was also not foolish enough to think they could simply charge in without consequence.

Her eyes lingered on the golden mist now dispersing into Liam's palm, the remnants of the divine droplet dissolving like morning dew touched by sunlight. "Yeah," she said slowly, "we can't afford any mistakes. Not with her."

Liam pulled her closer and gently placed a kiss on her forehead. He then turned his attention to the small crystal that now lay on his palm. "What do you think this is?" He mumbled, and all of a sudden, a system prompt flashed in front of him, completely surprising him.

[Ding! System Over-ride Command]

[Ding! Error]

[Ding! System Over-ride Forced]

[Ding! Error]

[Ding! System Over-ride Successful]

[Ding! Welcome to the Eternal System. Do you wish for greatness? Do you wish for supremacy? Do you wish for unlimited power? Do you wish to alter your path? Do you wish to accept the Eternal System's offer? Yes / No]

Alex took a cautious step closer, sensing the sudden shift in the atmosphere. "What happened, Liam? What is this?"

"See for yourself." Liam handed the crystal over to her.

Alex reached out slowly, her fingers brushing the crystal in Liam's palm—and instantly, her expression tensed. A sharp breath escaped her lips as she too pretty much received the same system messages.

She blinked, stunned. "What the hell is this artifact? Did it just offer to replace the system rules?"

Liam's gaze remained locked on the crystal. "It's connected to the Eternal System. Whatever that is, it just hijacked the current framework. The paladin should have gotten it from one of those old worlds. This shouldn't be a simple thing."

Alex's fingers curled into a fist. "Or maybe a doorway. A crack in the system. A backdoor placed by someone, maybe even a God. Just how powerful did they have to be to create something like this…"

Liam's brow furrowed, his thoughts racing. "A God… or something worse. Something before the Gods. If this thing really has the power to override system control, it means the Eternal System either predates the current structure… or was designed to oppose it. I am not sure if this thing is safe to use." He wasn't sure which possibility was more terrifying.

Alex nodded slowly. "I agree too. Besides, it's asking if I want to change my path. I have no intention of doing that."

"Hmmm." Liam hummed in agreement. After talking with her for some more time, he left the room and walked over to the ground floor to find the others.

Shen Yue and Mei Mei were sitting at a long table in the guild's central hall, surrounded by food, drinks, and a few empty potion vials—clear signs they'd just wrapped up a serious recovery session after the event.

Mei Mei noticed him first and immediately waved him over. "Brother!" she called, her voice bright and bubbly. "Took you long enough to come say hi. Thought you got kidnapped by sis Alex." Mei Mei giggled, her small hands stuffed with candied fruit. "She tackled him like a wild beast."

Liam smiled faintly and sat across from them. "You all did well. I heard you cleared the event."\

Shen Yue smiled, quickly standing up and serving some food to Liam. Even though there were plenty of maids available to do things like this, she liked to personally see to Liam's meals when he was around—an old habit that hadn't faded, no matter how far they'd come.

"Of course we cleared it," she said, placing a plate of roasted beast meat and spirit fruit in front of him. "You didn't expect anything less from us, right?"

Liam accepted the food with a small nod of appreciation. "No, I didn't. But I also heard the event wasn't exactly… standard."

Shen Yue's cheerful expression dimmed just a little. She sat back down, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear. "Yeah. Without Alex and Eldrin, we wouldn't have lasted."

Mei Mei nodded along enthusiastically, her cheeks puffed up like a squirrel. "The vampires were strong. They were using some sort of poison that spread through the water and weakened everyone."

Liam patiently heard the two of them as they described the treasure hunt event. After a while, Mei Mei bid farewell and left for secluded training. The effects of the pearls they had all consumed still hadn't worn off, pushing their foundations closer to the edge of a breakthrough. She skipped away with a quick wave, humming something under her breath.

Shen Yue lingered, sipping a clear tea that shimmered faintly with some sort of calming herb infusion. She sat beside Liam again, her expression quiet, thoughtful.

"I am sorry about earlier. I had some difficult news for Alex, so I just left with her." Liam explained. Shen Yue nodded gently. "It's okay. I don't mind."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. Of course." Shen Yue smiled. Liam gently pulled her closer and kissed her cheek. He then started telling her everything that happened in the system event.

"You met Mia?" Shen Yue was utterly shocked. "We need to bring her back home. Both Alex and Rey…"

Liam pressed her hand gently. "Yes, I know. There is also something else. Let's gather for a guild meeting."
