Wang Wei’s first instinct was to choose this method. He felt that achieving the highest foundation possible for his True Transcendence Path was crucial to him. His Transcendent Self set up all these schemes, probably just to strengthen his foundation, and Wang Wei knew it was the only way to guarantee that he was the Primary Wang Wei, not one of his countless alternate selves.
However, his paranoia activated, making him wonder whether this was a plot against him. Would someone give away such a valuable thing in exchange for helping someone condense a Dao Heart and Supreme Saint Will Prototype? The answer is no — unless there was something wrong with this method.
"I’m interested in this thing. What do you think?" Wang Wei looked at Fangjin.
"Sir, it may not be worth it," the diligent servant replied.
"Oh?"
"The path of the Detached or Otherworldly Foundation is a semi-secret among the upper echelon of the holy land, but few people care because no one has ever succeeded."
"No?
"Well, one of our most talented individuals, Xushun, once condensed 12.5 pillars, but he died in the process of condensing his 81st Vein."
"12.5? Is that possible?"
"Some individuals do not meet the full requirement for the 13th pillar, but they meet most of it. They can condense an incomplete one, with the opportunity to mend it."
Wang Wei frowned; this brief conversation made him realize he did not know as much about the 13th pillar as he thought he did. "Is it really that challenging?"
"Yes," Fangjin nodded. "A cultivator has only one chance, and failure means they can only try again in the next realm. Furthermore, the process will drastically increase the danger of the sanctification process. Many people have died walking on this path."
"So, you don’t think I should choose this book?"
"If sir is worried about the content, then there is no need," Fangjin replied, seemingly able to understand his master’s concerns. "However, the value of this book is hard to debate."
"Doesn’t the library have information about the Detached Foundation?"
"Yes, but only the basics. The offer is from Xushun’s family. In the entire sect, I doubt anyone knows about this subject more than they do."
Wang Wei didn’t completely believe these words. There are definitely a few Chaos Demon Gods who have walked this path. However, probably only Pangu and Hundunxi have condensed more than 360 Heaven Pulses. Regardless, Xushun must have drawn on the knowledge of these people in his research.
"Tell them I’ll take the deal," Wang Wei decided. There may be something wrong with this method, but as long as he escapes, he has plenty of methods to verify the truth. While the other things offered might be more beneficial to him now, he needed to look at things from a long-term perspective.
"As you wish," Fangjin bowed before leaving to execute the order. Wang Wei calmly watched him leave; this man was indeed the perfect servant. He never questioned his judgment. He only offered all the knowledge and opinions Wang Wei needed to make a decision, but he never overstepped his bounds.
"If only I could trust him," Wang Wei sighed. Luckily, if things go smoothly, Wang Qi will possess such powers and abilities.
Fangjin soon returned with a Blood Oath. The family’s requirement was to use a method called [Dao Feeding] to help one of their Heaven Chosen condense a Dao Heart and Supreme Saint Will Prototype. The process was not as easy as Dongfang, as it requires a bunch of things, including using a formation. Wang Wei almost stopped the process after seeing how convoluted it was.
But, he powered through it and used the most lengthy and binding legal contract (Blood Oath) to appease his mind. He wrote so many rules and clauses in this agreement that a mortal human would need 70 years to read the entire agreement, and that’s only if you don’t account for the need to sleep, eat, and defecate. By the end, even the other party was annoyed.
Luckily, everything finally reached a satisfactory ending, all because of Fangjin’s diplomatic abilities. Soon afterward, a new disciple became a Holy Son Seed and challenged the others. The person finished second except for being defeated by Dongfang. Wang Wei didn’t care about that, as he was already entrenched in the contents of the book.
Xushun’s knowledge about the Detached Foundation — or Otherworldly Foundation, as he called it in the later years of his life — was extensive to say the least. According to him, the requirements for the 13th pillar can be summed up in two words: perfection and uniqueness.
Perfection means a cultivator needs to check every box of accomplishment during their journey: condensing the Duyi Realm, breaking the Boundary between Mortal and Immortal, achieving a 5-root Dao Ancestor strength, the Eternal Path, entering all the Battle Taboo Realms, becoming a Primal, becoming an Ancestor, establishing the Three Foundations, and entering the Quasi-Saint Realm by condensing the Three Saints Traits.
All these must be accomplished, and the cultivators must do it at the right level. Going back to redo or reinforce them is considered near-perfect, not perfect. Wang Wei frowned after reading that part. Such stringent requirements mean most people cannot walk this path. His wife and ancestors are all talented individuals, but due to limited information, they had to redo many of these steps.
Wang Wei continued reading. Besides perfection, uniqueness is the most challenging aspect. Any cultivator who has condensed a 13th pillar is the first to do something, or has done something only they’ve done.
"I’m the first Immeasurable Emperor, so that’s reassuring," Wang Wei thought. He would also have been the first Mortal Emperor, but fate was against him, and Di Tian took that title. "As for Hong’er, she’s probably the first and only cultivator to have condensed a Dao Quintessence Prototype in the Immortal Realm. Maybe there is hope for her?"
Wang Wei was right. According to Xushun, unique achievements can compensate for imperfection. Moreover, he also mentioned things like Greater Uniqueness and Lesser Uniqueness. Wang Wei and Hong’s achievements are Greater Uniqueness — which is the priority — while things like being the Second Mortal Emperor are considered Lesser Uniqueness. Lesser Uniqueness is the key to making up for the lack of perfection. Sadly, Xushun did not know how many Lesser Uniquenesses were required to make up for the lack of perfection.
Wang Wei continued reading. The following section was about reincarnation to achieve perfection. According to Xushun, a cultivator can reincarnate to check all the boxes in their cultivation. However, that is not enough to condense the 13th pillar. In addition, the cultivator needs one Great Uniqueness Achievement or countless more Lesser Achievements.
"This Xushun has done a lot of research on this topic, but a lot of his findings are too subjective. I would love to have concrete data instead of suggestions and deductions," Wang Wei thought. If he knew how many lesser unique achievements were required, he could tell his wife and ancestors. But all of the ambiguity is concerning.
Wang Wei finished reading the section on the pillars and became even more confident about his future; his only worry was his wife and friends. However, he decided to take things one step at a time. Maybe they are not as obsessed with this Otherworldly Foundation as he is, or maybe there is still a chance to make things right.
"Unfortunately, according to Xushun, the process of perfecting the 12.5 foundations is different for different worlds," Wang Wei thought before frowning. He wondered why this? Cultivation at the Saint Realm is a self-evolution, meaning it has little to do with Heaven and Earth. Saints do not face tribulations; to be precise, they do not face Heavenly Tribulation. They suffered terrible Heart or Mind Tribulation, but Heaven and Earth do not judge them; that’s true for even the lowest Primordial Chaos Saint. However, the process of perfecting the 13th pillar is governed by the rules of Heaven and Earth, which puzzled Wang Wei.
He shook his head. Since there was currently no answer, he wouldn’t focus too much on it. So, without wasting any more time, he focused on the creation of the 81st vein. Wang Wei’s face suddenly turned hot. He was just thinking Saints do not face tribulation, and this book told him the key to the 81st veins is tribulation; it was truly embarrassing.
According to Xushun, the most important aspect of this vein is the cultivation technique used to condense the second Quintessence. Once done correctly, a cultivator will steal something from Heaven and Earth, and as a result, must face a tribulation or calamity. And only after surviving can they condense the 81st vein.
"I was correct. The key to becoming a Tribunal Lord is about breaking free from these Grand Constructs," Wang Wei murmured.
