Chapter 1829: Foundation Material
Chaos Origin Realm, Heaven Splitting Holy Land, Holy Son Mansion:
Wang Wei sat cross-legged with his eyes closed. A golden flame enveloped his body, burning brighter with each passing second. A few seconds passed, and the golden flame turned pure white before disappearing. Wang Wei opened his eyes and exhaled.
"How terrifying," he thought. Even with the preparation, even after using a second-step Saint herb to protect his soul, he was still corrupted after Cthulhu spoke and left a seed of contact in all sentient beings. Luckily, the corruption wasn’t too deep and Maitreya — as a Buddhist Nun — excelled at this kind of thought purification.
Wang Wei looked in the distance. He could already imagine the chaos this world was about to experience. Cultivators are one of the most desire-driven creatures in the world. They desire strength, power, immortality, eternity, and even more. Previously, factors such as social status, strength, and talent prevented them from achieving their goals. But now? None of that matters since they can pray to the Great Old One.
Facing a bottleneck for countless yuan epochs? It’s okay, just summon the Great Old One. Your enemy is more powerful than you, and there is no hope of revenge? The Great Old One is more than happy to avenge you. The jade beauty you fancy doesn’t look at you? It’s alright, just ask Lord Cthulhu, and he’ll make her fall in love with you.
"I understand why Grand Dao considers the Prehistoric World — Earth, to be specific — a taboo," Wang Wei thought. Names have power, and if all these Earthlings who know the name of the Great Old Ones were to escape their little cage, who knew what catastrophe they would unleash into the Chaos Universe.
"Let’s not think about that," Wang Wei thought to himself. Looking at the outside, he saw a golden light enter Star Manifestation’s body. He knew the Highest Sovereign had made his move, which could further complicate matters regarding the expedition. However, he couldn’t care less about that now.
Wang Wei understood that time was running out. If his prediction is correct, this timeline will soon be wiped out by Grand Dao, eliminating all possibility of spreading Cthulhu’s name. So, he warned the expeditioners to hurry up and plunder as much as they could.
Meanwhile, Wang Wei proceeded to the next step of the plan. With a flicker of his wrist, he summoned the second-step Defensive Talisman he had exchanged with the Erudite Duchess at the start of this secret realm. The mansion was surrounded by the best Heaven Deception Array that Wang Wei had ever created or established in his life. He tapped into its power of deception to modify the Defensive Talisman; he deceived Heaven and Earth, making reality believe it was not a Defensive Talisman but a Summoning Talisman.
"Excellent," Wang Wei muttered as he saw the result. His original plan was to use his technique — Purpose Modification — to change the Defensive Talisman’s nature. Unfortunately, his Fate Dao was not currently on par to achieve the level he desired, forcing him to improvise and use the Heaven Deception Array to achieve the same goal.
Without wasting another second, Wang Wei controlled the mansion and shrunk it before fusing it with his body. The mansion was already a semi-Saint Artifact, only needing a few more materials to become a powerful second-step weapon. Sadly, time was of the essence, and he couldn’t refine it yet.
Wang Wei teleported away. All the previous events had eradicated the space blockade around the Heaven Splitting Holy Land, which meant he could leave anytime he wanted. After navigating through a few spatial tears, he finally arrived at his destination.
"You’ve come."
"Don’t pretend like you were expecting me," Wang Wei stated.
"I might be able to hide from those people, but not from you," Mingyunjun calmly stated. He faked his death by manipulating his own fate and masquerading it as if he had died. During that intense situation, most people would not notice, but that’s not the case for another Master of Fate.
"Since you know I would be coming, you should also know why I’ve come?" Wang Wei asked with a smile.
"Isn’t it obvious? You see me as an obstacle for the Fate Path."
"Wrong. You don’t hold the Fate Grand Source Position, so you’re not as big a threat as you think," Wang Wei replied. "Guess again."
Mingyunjun’s Qilin-like face squinted, "You want to use me as material for your Otherworldly Foundation?"
"The 81st vein is difficult to achieve. I need to prepare early," Wang Wei smiled. "Plus, I have a feeling there are more benefits to killing you. For example, something related to the Power Force? Something tells me you didn’t sacrifice everything."
Mingyunjun smiled, revealing all his powerful teeth. He raised his paw to display a bright purple crystal about 40 centimeters long.
"It’s the core?"
"That’s right."
"You’re indeed clever," Wang Wei praised. "While your injury is severe, there is still hope of recuperating. Once that’s done, you can use it to open 6th Gate and become a Grand Dao Saint through the Body Refining Path, breaking off all the limitations of the Fate Source Position or maybe even your status as an Alternate Self."
The Fate Chaos Demon God’s smile faded away. "Although there were many setbacks and unexpected events, the overall goal was still achieved. The last obstacle is you. After I kill you, the future is mine for the taking."
Wang Wei chuckled. "I must admit, you —"
Bang!
The two suddenly rushed and attacked. All this talking was a simple strategic maneuver. Wang Wei wanted to detect how heavy Mingyunjun’s injuries were, and the Fate Chaos Demon God wanted to recuperate as much as possible for this battle.
"He still has the strength of a 12-pillar Primordial Chaos Saint even after suffering an attack from a Grand Dao Saint?" Wang Wei thought to himself. "No, even by sacrificing the Power Force, after that attack, he should have dropped down into the [Immortal Realm], maybe even became a [Mortal]. The only explanation is that he used a secret technique to temporarily boost his strength."
This was good news for Wang Wei; the enemy was not as strong as it looked. But there was also bad news.
"Mingyunjun has more experience than I, and his techniques are more refined," Wang Wei analyzed. "More importantly, I also cannot last long." Despite his best effort to protect himself, Wang Wei was still injured by Chthulhu’s descent, which drastically decreased the time his strength from the Mirror Seed could remain. He also has to worry about how this timeline doesn’t have much time left before it disappears.
"I need to finish this as soon as possible," Wang Wei concluded. With a thought, he activated the Array Virus that he had been secretly spreading during their conversation.
"Aren’t you underestimating me too much?" Mingyunjun sneered as he blocked another attack. As soon as Wang Wei escaped the battlefield, Mingyunjun had his eyes on him. The only reason he didn’t attack was that someone was fighting him, and he needed to keep up the charade for as long as possible to maximize his gain. However, as soon as Wang Wei entered the prison, Mingyunjun read through the maid’s Fate Line and learned all the secrets involved.
A hidden fluctuation spread from Mingyunjun’s body, isolating the microscopic array virus. Simultaneously, Mingyunjun’s palm attacked Wang Wei, sending him flying a few thousand kilometers.
"You can’t use your Dao, can you?" Wang Wei smiled while blood trickled from his mouth. He had realized Mingyunjun hadn’t used a single Fate Technique since this battle started.
"It’s more than enough to deal with a false Saint like you," Mingyunjun sneered.
Wang Wei chuckled. Ignoring his injuries, he used another one of Maitreya’s attacks: [Formless Concept: Dream]. Many things have no form — the mind, thoughts, beliefs, and dreams also belong to such categories. As white-gray mist surrounded Wang Wei’s palm, as soon as he saw it, Mingyunjun’s face turned ugly. He teleported away from his opponent, but it was of no use.
"Damn you," Mingyunjun roared as blood spewed from his body and orifices. Right now, he wanted nothing but to strangle Wang Wei. The bastard had used the Power of Dreams to resonate with the remnant of Cthulhu’s power remaining inside of Mingyunjun’s body, thus further aggravating his injuries.
A ruthless light shone in the Fate Chaos Demon God’s eyes. Then, without hesitation, he used another secret technique. More golden blood burst out of his body, but he didn’t care. Stomping his foot, a unique energy wave spread through this hidden dimension.
"This is..." Wang Wei muttered, his expression grave. Mingyunjun finally used a Fate Dao Technique. A projection materialized above Wang Wei’s head, showing the past image of his deal with First Holy Seed, Dongfang. At first, Wang Wei was puzzled until what happened next. The image of his successful negotiation with Dongfang changed into an argument.
"Damn it, this bastard is rewriting my past," Wang Wei thought. Mingyunjun’s attack was changing Wang Wei’s fate. The reason he had his current power was because of the agreement with Dongfang and the acquisition of the Mirror Seed. Now, by altering that Fate Nexus Event, Mingyunjun can essentially remove all of Wang Wei’s Saintly powers.
