Journey of the Fate Destroying Emperor

Chapter 1845: The Beyonder

Chapter 1845: The Beyonder

"That’s not a bad idea," the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint uttered.

"In that case, it’s decided," the Erudite Duchess nodded.

"I refused," the Heaven Cardinal immediately said.

"Is that so?" the Slaughter Ancestor asked, a terrifying killing intent focusing on the cardinal. The others immediately followed up by also releasing their killing intent. The group expected the Heaven Cardinal to back down because of peer pressure, but the latter remained defiant.

"What are you doing?" Source Qi Cardinal asked secretly through divine sense.

"You know who is behind the Death Reverence. Since we are going to die either way, it’s best to die in the hands of the people who cannot truly kill us."

"Are you stupid? Even if that is true, what about the Grand Dao? Once she found out that we didn’t do anything and let the Beyonder succeed, she would also kill us."

The Heaven Cardinal felt a chill run down his spine. His companion was correct. In most cases, Grand Dao might allow their failures, but not in matters regarding Death Reverence and the Beyonder. Once she found out, their only fate was death.

"Should I move the timetable for my plan? But I’m not ready," the Heaven Cardinal thought. Things were already in motion, and this expedition was his only chance. If he dies here and Grand Dao has to revive him, then she’ll definitely discover the truth and also punish him. However, the cardinal also did not want to die at the Beyonder’s hands.

"We agree to this plan," the Source Qi Cardinal said. The Heaven Cardinal opened his mouth to say something, but ultimately, he closed it while sighing to himself.

"Very well," the Erudite Duchess nodded. "Time is of the essence, so let’s not waste it." Without hesitation, she condensed a seed of her power that floated toward the Source Qi Cardinal. The others followed her example, and then they looked at the cardinals with cold eyes.

"Let’s use the True Manifestation Array," Source Qi said to his companion after taking the blessing crystals.

"You want to summon his projection?"

"That’s the best approach," she nodded.

"Fine," Heaven Cardinal said with gritted teeth.

The two immediately appeared outside of the Heaven and Earth Origin Cycle Array. A magic circle manifested beneath their feet as they mobilized their powers, followed by the appearance of a being covered in armor with black-red mist or aura emanating from its body. Anyone who glanced at this powerhouse instantly felt their soul was being annihilated, and the weaker the cultivation, the more intense the feeling.

"The Destruction General? Is this how he looks?" Wang Wei thought. "His power doesn’t seem to be as high as I thought. No, this is probably just a projection."

The Cardinals finished laying out the True Manifestation Array, and with the blessing of the other Tribunal Lords, the power was no different from when the six of them performed it; in many aspects, it’s also more powerful. Without wasting this opportunity, they immediately attacked the black pillar of death, the source of everything.

The Death General Projection waved his hand, and a colossal red hand of death manifested between Heaven and Earth, trying to annihilate the pillar. Wang Wei gazed intently at the result since the truth would finally be revealed. Two people suddenly appeared in front of the death beam. One of them was recognizable: Death Reverence. However, most eyes — including Wang Wei — focused on the second individual.

The second person looked exactly like Death Reverence, except his aura was even more terrifying. With a calm and indifferent look, the man waved his hand, and a cloud of death immediately confronted the general’s Hand of Destruction. The result? Instant annihilation.

"I guess I’m not the only one," Wang Wei sighed to himself. What was his most reliable trump card? Summon his future self. At first, he thought his destiny and future were unique, hence why only he had this ability. But now, Death Reverence has displayed the same ability. No, this is probably even better since his future self seemed to have no issue remaining in this timeline and interfering as he sees fit.

"How did you remove the seal Grand Dao placed on your destiny?" the Heaven Cardinal asked with cold eyes.

"You people have too much faith in Grand Dao’s ability," Death Reverence calmly replied. After saying these words, he motioned with his head, and his Future Self counterattacked with a palm attack of his own. The General’s projection defended itself, but it was clear to anyone that the enemy had the overwhelming advantage.

Wang Wei — who was about to convince his allies to intervene — felt relieved when they did before he opened his mouth. These teammates might have their own selfish motives, but they were reliable other times when their minds were not influenced.

Sadly, his relief did not last long. All five of them worked together with the General Projection, and the result was barely a tie. More importantly, with his augmented comprehension, Wang Wei has predicted that there was a 23.4% chance that the enemy was not using its full power; their priority was protecting the Death Beam.

Twenty percent might seem low, but he knew it could be higher. Limited by his cultivation realm, there are certain things or information that he cannot ascertain without a high enough cultivation, which makes many of his predictions or analyses flawed.

The two sides stopped fighting since one side was outmatched, while the other had reservations. The Tribunal Lord immediately called for a meeting, and Wang Wei was invited to attend. Once everybody was present and in their position, they glanced at the Cardinal.

"Why don’t you explain what we are dealing with?" the Karma Root Monarch asked. The two cardinals looked at each other, and after a few seconds, they seemed to have come to an agreement.

"We are dealing with an entity called Deathbringer, but we refer to him as the taboo, the Beyonder," the Source Qi Cardinal stated. Everyone’s squinted their eyes. They had just dealt with a taboo, and now, another one had appeared? Taboos were always terrifying — aside from the cardinal, who were taboo only to lower-level cultivators — but another aspect of them was how rare they were.

"Is the Beyonder referred to as the [Being Outside of The Firmament]?" The Trinity Venerable asked.

"Have you heard of him?"

"Only that description, but nothing more."

"You’re lucky that’s all you knew," the Heaven Cardinal sneered. The tension in the room immediately intensified after his words.

"Why does it feel that this Heaven Cardinal is acting recklessly?" Wang Wei thought. This feeling was not out of nowhere; ever since the beginning of the expedition, the Heaven Cardinal had seemed not to care about his words and actions.

"Continue," the Erudite Duchess said, smoothing out the tension.

"Before I continue, I should warn you that there is a chance that Grand Dao will remove your memories after this event ends," Source Qi Cardinal. Everyone frowned.

"Although it’s not guaranteed, there is a high chance."

"Fine. Continue," the duchess nodded. A few people disagreed with this decision, but they understood that the information was crucial. Without knowing what kind of threat they were dealing with, their chances of survival would be dramatically reduced.

"As long as you understand," Source Qi nodded. She had already turned everybody against the cardinals because of the Purification Light, and the last thing she needed was to aggravate these things. After all, why are they currently allies? This will not be the case after they return. And if these Tribunal Lords insist on causing trouble, the cardinals will suffer.

"At some point during the Paragon Age, a being from outside the Chaos Universe visited."

"Outside the Chaos Universe?" Trinity Venerable asked.

"Yes, beyond this realm, beyond the Infinite Trichiliocosm."

"Wouldn’t that be a True Transcendent?" The Duchess asked.

"No, he wasn’t a True Transcendent; he was an extremely powerful Grand Dao Saint, but not a true transcendent," Source Qi explained.

"The Three-Eyes Scholar was right. The world is a cage," Karma Root Monarch uttered.

"A cage designed to protect you," the Heaven Cardinal sneered. "Why do you think the Beyonder insists on descending on our world? Do you think the outside world is beautiful and jolly?"

"What do you mean?"

"The Transcendent Path," Wang Wei suddenly said. "Only a Chaos Universe can allow someone to transcend. That’s why the Beyonder wants to descend into our world. Am I right?"

"That’s right," Source Qi nodded while giving him a glance. "After Grand Dao blocked the descent of his true body, he never gave up. Instead, he has been sending countless envoys into our world to do his bidding. Most of them were intercepting or killing beforehand, but Death Reverence was the most successful one."

"Why didn’t you eradicate him if you knew he was an envoy?" the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint asked. The cardinal was immediately quiet.

"Well?"

"She couldn’t," Wang Wei added. "Deathbringer’s power is probably beyond what Grand Dao can contain. I reckon the only reason he hasn’t truly acted was either out of fear of our universe’s two True Transcendents or out of fear that Grand Dao will activate a mutual destruction protocol, taking out the entire Chaos Universe with her."
