Chapter 2045: The Art Of Psychological Warfare
Klaus tightened his grip on the thin sword that was in his hand. This sword has been accompanying him for a few years now, and its strength is not to be played with. Coupled with the fact that the sword enhanced any ice techniques he used with it, it was an amazing weapon.
Reynolds did not hold any weapon, but lightning arcs were occasionally flashing around his body. He did not use his merging ability with his Elemental Warrior while fighting earlier so as not to show all his cards, he did not even bring out his Elemental Warrior at that time, but presently, he was already prepared to merge with it and go all out against these people if they dared to attack.
Alice was the same, prepared to attack at a moment’s notice. Void was even more obvious, the space around them had become distorted, a sign of him already making use of his domain. His space domain not only had the ability to keep people confined in it, it can also keep people out of it through multiple tricks.
The gray-haired beastman had a calm look in his eyes, he did not show any animosity like the white-clothed beastman, but he too, was thinking of possibly eliminating Grey while he was injured and retaking the lightning crystal that was stolen from them. He might have worked with Grey, but it did not mean that he did not bear a grudge given how their sacred treasure was stolen.
The gray-haired beastman, being the leader of the group, was waiting to tell his companions to attack. From his point of view, even though Void and the others were showing unstoppable momentum, he did not take them seriously at all!
Only Grey had the ability to harm them, and given Grey’s current situation, the gray-haired beastman knew he could not use more than sixty percent of his initial strength at most, such an opponent is not one worth being wary of. However, the second the gray-haired beastman wanted to give the order to attack, he felt his heart rate speed up as he stared into the eyes of the healing youth before him. In those all, he did not see a shred of panic or fear, all he saw was shocking calmness, as well as a hidden dangerous light that was waiting to explode.
While the gray-haired beastman was contemplating on if he should attack, Grey stared at him coolly.
Grey only spared the white-clothed man a glance before resting his gaze on the leader of the clan. He knew the gray-haired man called the shots, and as long as he did not give the order for the others to attack him, even if the opportunity presented itself for the others like with his current situation, they still would not be able to attack him. Unless the gray-haired beastman was not present.
As he watched them, he could not help but assess their current situation as well as possible counters, his situation was dire, even more so than what the gray-haired beastman thought. The gray-haired beastman thought Grey could at most wield around sixty percent of his strength, when in truth, Grey could not even wield up to forty percent of his strength!
The only reason he was calm was because he had a few trump cards, but all they could do was delay the inevitable, and probably kill one or at most two of the Peak Sovereigns before he would lose to them. Since that was the case, he feigned confidence in front of the gray-haired beastman to scare him. He was confident this would work thanks to the fact that he had battled with the gray-haired beastman before and knew he was a very cautious person, as long as he was not totally confident, he would not dare to attack him.
Grey’s thought process proved valid as he saw the gray-haired beastman hesitate to give out the attack order, he knew he had won the fight psychologically. Secretly heaving a sigh, he looked at his friends who were protecting him and felt warm inside. No matter the danger, his friends were willing to use themselves to shield him.
Grey did not continue his healing process, he knew staying in this position for too long would probably alert the gray-haired beastman, and although he felt the latter still would not dare to attack, he did not want to take any chances with him.
Communicating with Void, he told him to ask the gray-haired beastman where the reward was so they could take their share and leave. They had already completed their mission, so there was no need to stay here any longer. He also needed to find a quiet place to recuperate. Given his injuries, he knew it would take a few weeks before he returned back to normal.
If the gray-haired beastman found out that it would only take Grey a few weeks to recover, he would be left dumbfounded. For someone like him, even with his strength, such an injury would take a few years to heal. One has to know that the attack was from someone close to the Half God Plane, and such attacks were not easy to deal with.
The only reason the Peak Sovereign beastmen and lady did not find anything wrong with Grey at the moment was because they did not see the extent of his injuries after he was struck, they only took advantage of the opportunity to strike down their enemies. In the time it took them to deal with the rest of the enemies, the outer injuries had been well hidden by Grey, and unless he allowed the Peak Sovereign experts to investigate his body, they would never know the extent of his injuries.
When Void relayed the gray-haired beastman’s response to Grey, he could not help but wear a gloomy expression.
’Damn it.’
He was caught in a dilemma, either stay to have a share in the treasure, risking them finding out about his true condition, or leave and return later. Only, would he still get a share of the treasure at that time?
There might even be no treasure to speak of if he leaves now!
