Chapter 2058: Fatal Mistake
"Leader! Save me!"
The elderly man’s cry took the group by surprise. Everything almost happened in the blink of an eye, from Grey questioning the young man a second ago, to this elderly man suddenly crashing down from the sky and screaming in horror.
This elderly man is well-known among the mercenaries. Other than being one of the oldest members, he was also regarded as the second in command behind the leader; a testament of his strength.
Seeing him scream in horror terrified the weaker members.
The lady did not expect Grey to make a move, so she was a little slow to react. The elderly man’s cry for help jolted her back to reality and she snapped, "My members are for me to deal with alone. Don’t think because I’m showing you respect you can ask wantonly before me."
While saying this, the lady charged straight at the elderly man. Although her words carried venom, she did not dare to clash head-on with Grey. She knew her limits, even a weak Seventh stage Sovereign can give her a tough time, much less an Eighth stage Sovereign.
"Hmph! If I want to kill him do you think the likes of you can stop me?" Grey snorted coldly before his figure, which was standing almost a hundred meters away from the elderly man, started to fade.
"An afterimage! Stop!" The lady realized that no matter how fast she acted, she would still be too late. She had read about how difficult it was to create an afterimage since it also relied heavily on physical attributes. Even some of the very best Lightning, Wind, and even Light Elementalists are unable to achieve such results.
Grey’s figure materialized in front of the unmoving elderly man, his index finger being only an inch from the man’s forehead.
The man was already soaked in sweat, and even till this moment, he was still trying to break free of what was restraining him.
Grey smiled before pushing his finger forward.
Understanding there was no escape for him, the elderly man gritted his teeth and his eyes turned red from rage.
"Since you want to take my life, I’ll make sure I cut a piece of your flesh!" Laughing maniacally, the elderly man’s aura flared even stronger than before. He was going to self-destruct, and given the distance between him and Grey, he was sure the latter would certainly be affected by it.
An amused smile appeared on Grey’s face as he paused for a split second, nudging his head as he said, "Go on. I want you to see the strength of us humans and know that you’ve failed in your judgement, and siding with the Gnomes is a fatal mistake."
The old man hesitated when he heard this, accompanied by the eerie calmness in the youth’s eyes, he felt like there was nothing he could do to harm him. He wanted to stop his rising aura, but it was too late. Just as the aura reached its peak, something unexpected happened.
The anticipated explosion did not occur like the others expected, rather, Grey’s finger came in contact with the elderly man’s head at the second the man’s aura reached its peak, and the aura disappeared like it was never there. The elderly man still stood with red eyes, but his life force and aura had vanished from this world.
The next scene frightened the mercenaries even more as the elderly man’s body slowly started to disintegrate and vanish.
"You’re in the Ninth stage!" The lady’s voice shook the rest of the mercenaries from their frozen state.
"Correct, and since you’re the leader, I’ll kill you last."
Grey’s figure vanished after saying this. This time, it was different from when there was an afterimage behind.
The lady felt fear grip her heart as she tried to locate Grey. At least the last time she still saw slight bits of his movements, this time, it was like he vanished into space.
At the thought of it, a single dreaded element came to her mind.
"He’s a Space Elementalist! Set up the formation now!" She issued orders in haste.
Bang!
A loud explosion rang out from one part of the group. Looking in the direction, four shadows could be seen crashing to the ground... all lifeless.
The already frightened mercenaries felt greater fear. A Space Elementalist who was a Ninth stage Sovereign. A Space Elementalist was difficult to deal with even in the same cultivation stage, much less when there was a gap of four stages and above.
The four people Grey attacked were all Third stage Sovereigns. They were still in a state of panic when he struck, they did not even get the chance to react before he killed all four. He turned his gaze to those around before a large ring of fire appeared in the sky as fire arrows shot out in hundreds.
"Set up the formation!" The lady roared again as she joined the four remaining Fifth stage Sovereigns in the group. They quickly spread out, the four Fifth stage Sovereigns each stood on one end to make a square, while the lady was in the middle.
A bright light connected all five together and the aura of the lady soared to the Seventh stage of the Sovereign Plane.
"Not enough, burn your blood essence now!" The lady started to burn her blood essence even before speaking as her entire body shone with brilliant crimson light.
They were not the only ones who set up this formation, six more formations were successfully set up before Grey finally paused.
It had been roughly about twenty to thirty seconds since he attacked, and in that short time, he had killed almost fifty people. The number was staggering given the timeframe. Even the lady did not expect Grey to unleash such destructive power in so little time. Had she not acted quickly, then they would have all died in only a few minutes.
Now she understood when Grey said the likes of her could not stop him if he wanted to kill her people. In all honesty, from the might Grey just showed, there was nothing she could do even if he moved at a snail’s pace.
