Chapter 244: Cheat Sheet
Inside the first examination hall.
The moment the tests began, Yu Shudeliberately walked over toYao Tangto monitor the girl’s every move, and perhaps even intimidate her in the process.
If she found any clues, then there would be no need to take the exam again.
Yu Shu stalked aroundYao Tang’s seat like a hawk circling its prey, but the latter remained nonplussed. In fact, as soon asYao Tangreceived the test papers, she read over the questions and started writing.
She breezed through the test as though it had been made for a kindergarten class.
Yu Shu smirked when she noticed this. ‘What a dumbass. I can’t believe she doesn’t know the answer to any of the questions.’
After all, there was no way someone like Yao Tangcould solve each item so fast. She was probably just guessing.
Just then, Yu Shunoticed a slight bulge in one ofYao Tang’s pockets. ‘What is that?’
Something that looked suspiciously like the corner of a folded piece of paper was peeking over the hem.
‘Could it be… a cheat sheet?’
Yu Shu’s eyes immediately lit up. Without hesitation, she leaned over and rapped loudly on Yao Tang’s desk. She wanted to drag this girl out of the examination hall as soon as possible. “StudentYao Tang. What do you have inside your pocket? Show it to me, will you? I want to check what it is.”
The other examinees frowned. Teachers and invigilators were expected to keep their silence while the students answered the tests.
Otherwise, the distraction was bound to affect everyone’s performance.
Yao Tang raised her head, the corners of her lips curling up. It lasted for a second, then she went back to answering her test paper.
Yu Shu flushed in a mix of anger and embarrassment.
She retaliated by knocking on Yao Tang’s desk a few times more. “Student! I have reason to believe that you are cheating. Kindly cooperate with your invigilators and stand up! We must search your person for anything suspicious!”
“And if you don’t find anything?” Yao Tangcountered calmly.
She leaned back against her seat and twirled her pen in her fingers.
There was no problem in letting herself be searched, but it would certainly waste her time.
Yao Tang never did like putting herself at a disadvantage.
“Stop talking nonsense. If I tell you to stand up, then you should stand up. The invigilator’s words are absolute!” Yu Shupointed a finger atYao Tang, her voice ringing loudly around the room.
Yao Tang snickered under her breath and got to her feet. Every minute she spent resisting would be another minute lost.
“All right, but if you don’t find anything on me, you must apologize.”
“Oh, I’m sure that won’t be a problem!” Yu Shuretorted confidently. She was sure she hadn’t made a mistake, especially givenYao Tang’s speed in answering the questions.
On the other side of the examination hall, the two other teachers looked on with disapproval, though there wasn’t much they could do about the matter.
Yao Tang raised her arms and allowedYu Shuto pat her down. When it came to her pockets,Yu Shutook out a small pouch and tossed it on the table.
Only then did she realize that what she had suspected to be a cheat sheet was simply a packet of tissues. Aside from the pouch, Yao Tanghad nothing else on her.
She immediately understood that Yao Tangwasn’t cheating.
Yao Tang crossed her arms over her chest and raised an eyebrow atYu Shu. “Now, apologize.”
But the other girl was still staring at the packet of tissues like it was some cursed artifact. When Yu Shufinally snapped back to her senses, she shook her head and rolled her eyes. She refused to apologize.
The male teacher strode over then, a dark scowl on his face.
“This matter needs to be settled as soon as possible. Hurry and apologize. You are disrupting the other test-takers. Apologize before the patrolling teachers return and ask about the trouble you started.”
“Fine, I’m sorry!” Yu Shuhuffed without even looking atYao Tang.
Then, before anyone else could say anything, she turned on her heel and stomped back to the podium.
Her footsteps were loud and forceful, which only served to create further disturbance.
Yao Tang paid her no mind. She set her pouch aside and resumed her test.
Halfway through the exams, a boy raised his hand. He had given up on answering some of the questions and decided to leave them blank, and wanted to hand in his paper early.
To everyone’s surprise, the invigilators did not allow it. “This is a test of knowledge. No one is allowed to submit their answers in advance. Once the allotted time is over, we can all go over the tests together.”
A round of disappointed groans and sighs echoed in the hall.
Shortly after that, Yao Tangfinished the entire test paper. She reviewed her answers once, turned her answer sheet face down, then settled on her desk for a nap.
One by one, the other examinees who had run out of answers followed suit.
Seemingly unable to help herself, Yu Shuchose that moment to harassYao Tangyet again. She walked over, this time no longer caring to hide her hostility. “Yao Tang, you arrogant scum! You don’t even know anything, yet you still had the guts to participate in the Math Olympiad. What a joke!”
