Chapter 89 Waiting for a Call
In an opulent club on the outskirts of the city.
The lively hall was filled with young people. They were all the young masters and misses of the capital’s most prominent families, and they certainly looked the part. In a far corner, a group of them were gathered around a mahjong table. Qin Hao tossed a card forward.
“That’s it!” He Dusaid, chortling. “Say, Old Qin, do you want me to tally how much you lost tonight?”
“Bugger off,” Qin Haosnapped. The jerk had been playing tricks again. He struggled against the urge to flip the table and land a punch onHe Du’s face.
Yu Mu gathered the cards into a deck and put them away before taking out a cigarette. “Brother Qin,” he said with a smirk. “Why don’t you bring Brother Cheng over? He’s been sitting there staring at his phone all night. Is he waiting for a call or something?” The others could sniff gossip in the air. They turned in unison to the young man in question, their eyes filled with curiosity.
Who could possibly reduce the Young Master Cheng to such a state?
Qin Hao looked back at him, unsure of where to start with his explanation.
In the end, he only told them, “It’s none of your business!” He took another puff of his cigarette and reached for the cards. “Come on, let’s play another round. I won’t get up from this table until I win, damn it.” Yu Mu shrugged and diverted his attention back to the table.
Cheng Yan was stretched out on a sofa, his legs crossed at the ankles. The first two buttons of his black shirt were undone, and the sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, leaving his forearms exposed. He looked ruggedly sexy.
He was flipping his phone between his deft fingers, twirling it in one direction and then the other.
His other hand was dangling off the back of the sofa, holding a lit cigarette he seemed to have forgotten.
The light in this area was quite dim, and the picture he painted looked like something out of a noir movie.
Just then, his phone finally beeped. Cheng Yanfroze for a few seconds, and then he burst into motion, sitting up straight and unlocking the device. He had received a WeChat message.
Yao Tang: “The Beijing Film and Television City. I’ll be done at around six o’clock in the evening.”
She didn’t mince her words at all.
Cheng Yan wasted no time, either. He put away his phone and got to his feet, stubbing the cigarette on the ashtray nearby. He proceeded to tidy his shirt, then grabbed the suit jacket he had discarded when he had arrived.
Qin Hao noticed his actions out of the corner of his eye. “Are you going out, Brother Cheng?” he yelled.
Cheng Yan nodded once. “You guys stay and have fun.”
Back at the studio complex.
The final shoot of the music video was nearing its end.
The only thing left was Sheng TingandYao Tang’s dance number. After wrapping up the last scene, the director called for a break and the crew began to prepare for the next sequence. Xian Zhou rushed over with a bottle of water. “Goodness, God Yao! You and Brother Ting are perfectly coordinated! It’s really beautiful. You look great together.”
Their individual styles just worked with each other, and they brought so much chemistry to the choreography.
Yao Tang took the bottled water and took a sip. “Careful,” she said softly, her eyes onXiao Zhou’s belly. “Your child might pick up some bad habits before it’s even born.”
Xiao Zhou looked amused by her words. Sheng Ting joined them and grinned expectantly. “Do we look like a couple?” Xiao Zhou nodded fervently. Even just standing side by side like this, they looked like an ideal couple, especially since they were wearing matching red outfits.
Yao Tang said nothing. She finished her water and asked the makeup artist to fix her lipstick.
They spent a few more minutes on break before Bian Chicalled them back on set.
This last scene amounted to barely a minute’s worth of footage, but it was the soul of the entire music video.
Sheng Ting andYao Tangstood underneath a red disco ball that was covered in a flimsy red curtain. Soft crimson light poured over them, adding a layer of sensuality to their intimate movements.
Indeed, they were stunning to watch.
The scene ended with the pair standing back-to-back.
Yao Tang fluttered her eyelashes. When she looked back up at the camera, her gaze was wild and fiery.
She suddenly stiffened.
Up ahead in the distance, Cheng Yanwas leaning against the door frame, his arms crossed over his chest.
It seemed like he had been watching the whole scene they had just filmed, though his face was devoid of any emotion.
Still, anyone with common sense would be able to tell from his demeanor that he was none too pleased.
Yao Tang raised an eyebrow. She was surprised that he had arrived so quickly.
Sheng Ting noticed her gaze and turned to look at the figure in the distance.
He studied Cheng Yan, who had his suit jacket draped over his folded arms, looking like a Greek god who had descended from the heavens. EvenSheng Ting, who had always been confident in his appeal, had to admit that he was no match against this man.
He averted his eyes instinctively, but couldn’t help stealing several glances more.
Then, Yao Tangleaned close and whispered, “I have other business to attend to. I’ll be leaving first.”
Sheng Ting was caught off-guard. Before he could say anything, however, she had already stepped away and was heading toward the door.
He watched her go, still dazed.
Yao Tang stopped at the door and exchanged a few words with the young man. Then, he put his suit jacket over their shoulders, and they left the set together.
Even with their backs turned, they looked like a perfect match. A bitter taste rose in Sheng Ting’s mouth.
Xiao Zhou had sidled up to him, and she had also seenYao Tangleave with the other man. She thought it best not to say anything.
Yao Tang took a deep breath and glanced at the jacket on her shoulders. “I’m really not cold.”
Nor was she comfortable wearing other people’s clothes.
Cheng Yan paused and made a point of looking down at her red dress. It complemented her creamy white complexion well.
A shadow came over his eyes.
The scene of her dancing with another man flashed in his mind, and his jaw instinctively clenched.
