Chapter 3369: Chapter 3361: The Possibility of Eternal Life
The person with a chest wound is still in a coma.
The other long-haired man turned his head and looked out the window, his face pale and devoid of any expression.
When someone entered, the long-haired man glanced at Lin Yi, then turned his head back to look out the window.
He did not recognize Lin Yi.
Slowly, Lin Yi walked to the bedside.
Lin Yi looked at him and said in a low voice:
"What did you encounter at Sola Lake?"
Upon hearing this, the long-haired man’s face dramatically changed, and he looked at Lin Yi in surprise, as if trying to discover something from his face.
"You, you’re not a doctor, who are you!"
"Answer my question."
Lin Yi took out a dagger and held it to the long-haired man’s neck.
"Monsters! We encountered monsters!"
Lin Yi’s expression remained calm; though it was an outrageous piece of news, having been on the island for so long and with previous analyses, the truth of the event was no longer surprising.
"What kind of monster, and where did it come from?"
"From the lake."
"What kind of monster?"
"We, we don’t know either. It had a big claw. We were all injured."
"Is that all?"
"That’s all I know."
"Thank you for your cooperation."
Lin Yi glanced at the trash can and picked up a discarded syringe.
He then injected a tube of air into the IV line.
"W-what are you doing!"
"Rest in peace."
Without giving him a chance to speak further, the intense pain caused the long-haired man to convulse.
Lin Yi covered the long-haired man’s mouth with one hand to prevent him from shouting.
The latter stared wide-eyed, kicking his legs nonstop.
Yet he couldn’t escape Lin Yi’s grasp.
In less than half a minute, he lost all strength, and his pupils began to dilate.
After dealing with him, Lin Yi turned around and walked out.
Just like a doctor on rounds, calm and at ease.
Soon, Lin Yi left the ward and met up with Zhao Yunhu and Shao Jianfeng outside.
"Boss, how did it go?"
"I’ll tell you when we get back."
The three quickly got back into the car and headed towards their base.
"The situation is just as we predicted. The other side said they encountered monsters."
"Monsters, really?" The two were both quite amazed.
"If that’s the case, this is going to be tricky," Zhao Yunhu said.
"If we dive underwater, our strength will be greatly diminished. We might not even be a match for it."
"But the question is, what is their objective?" Shao Jianfeng asked.
"The series of actions appears to be in search of something left by predecessors, but that monster is of little use to us."
"You’re thinking too small; you haven’t absorbed our boss’s essence," Zhao Yunhu remarked.
"Who says the things brought back are definitely dead? If it’s truly a so-called monster, there’s a good chance it came from the island. It could be something left by our predecessors, living to this very day."
"This time you’re just being ridiculous," Shao Jianfeng replied.
"If that’s true, it would have lived for at least several hundred or even a thousand years. If it can really survive to now, then it must have turned into a spirit."
"But who can say for certain how long the creatures on the island have lived?" Zhao Yunhu responded.
"Having visited the island so many times, there’s nothing that surprises me anymore."
"That is indeed a possibility," Lin Yi added.
"Besides, none of us can guarantee there’s just that one monster below; there might even be other things."
"If that’s the case, we’ll need to be even more prepared."
After contemplating for a few seconds, Lin Yi said:
"Get ready with anesthetic guns, sniper rifles, night vision goggles, as quickly as possible."
"These things are relatively easy to get. They should be ready before the diving equipment arrives."
Then, Shao Jianfeng called the local embassy to have them prepare these items.
Zhao Yunhu rested both hands behind his head and said:
"Boss, I’ve thought of something interesting."
"Let’s hear it."
"Within the Kaijie Group, the department responsible for this is their biological research division, so could it be possible that their target is a monster?"
"It’s possible, but unlikely."
Both turned to Lin Yi, waiting for him to continue.
"When I met that person, judging from his attitude, it seemed he didn’t expect to encounter that monster. So I guess their target might be something else."
Lin Yi pondered for a moment and said:
"But I think they might be interested in that monster."
"I don’t think that’s likely at all," Shao Jianfeng interrupted.
"The so-called monster is definitely not like those in the movies. It’s likely similar to what’s on the island, just that ordinary people have never seen it, making it seem like a monster."
"Wrong, people like GP4 are not ordinary," Zhao Yunhu responded.
"Although their capability is about the same as the Foreign Legion, their knowledge is really something. They should have seen pictures of the island’s creatures—under normal circumstances, they wouldn’t be so terrified."
Both men looked at Zhao Yunhu, "Go on."
"I’m thinking, if that so-called monster has been living underwater for so many years, it’s considered long-lived even compared to the island creatures. How many years it can live in the future is still unknown, but it holds significant research value."
"Research value? What kind of research?" Shao Jianfeng asked.
"Eternal life!"
"What the hell!"
Shao Jianfeng exclaimed, "Your mind is surprisingly broad."
"Mainly because recently I’ve read a lot of books on mythology. Coupled with these years of experiences, I’m increasingly feeling that things in myths might not be fake," Zhao Yunhu said.
"Even now, there are still many things on Earth that humans can’t explain, and many are considered miracles. So even something as outrageous as eternal life might just have a slight possibility."
Casually lighting a cigarette, Zhao Yunhu said:
"Even a place like Tilia Island exists. Who can declare miraculous things to be false?"
"Hu Zi is right," Lin Yi said.
"If that so-called monster has truly lived for so many years, there might indeed be such a possibility worth researching."
"See, the boss gets me. You vulgar folks are just intolerable," Zhao Yunhu commented.
"Just think, the statue we found in the Bronze Tomb preserved Zhang Daoling’s body for thousands of years without decay—it’s a perfect example."
Shao Jianfeng said nothing more. Over these years, his understanding had been constantly challenged. Indeed, anything seems possible.
Soon, the three of them returned to their base.
Lin Yi called Yu Siying.
Everything in the mountains was normal. The next step is to wait for the equipment.
About fifteen hours later, the equipment transported from the Central Guards Brigade had arrived.
What Lin Yi didn’t expect was that the people who delivered the items were Qiu Yuluo and Tao Cheng.
