Chapter 3961: Chapter 3949: Shooting the Bird That Sticks Its Head Out
"I’ll go check it right now!"
Yue Sijing stood up.
"No need, I’ve already checked."
Lin Yi propped his head up with one hand and said:
"That scrap disposal plant called Xiu Dongming handles medical waste. Their main client is Jiangnan Jinsan Hospital, which belongs to Jinshan Group. You get what I mean?"
Yue Sijing was a smart woman. He’d spelled it out this clearly—if she still didn’t get it, she’d be an idiot.
"I get it. All the trash at Xiu Dongming Scrap Disposal Plant comes from here. Those two people who got infected with HIV are very likely victims of improper medical waste disposal."
"Exactly. But all that is just what’s on the surface." Lin Yi said lazily:
"Besides that, Jinshan Group also owns a biological lab called Wuzhe Mountain. The medical waste from there is handled by the same plant."
Yue Sijing’s expression turned particularly serious as she thought it through:
"You’re saying those two HIV carriers might be connected to Wuzhe Mountain Laboratory as well?"
"Hard to say. Let me show you a video."
Lin Yi pulled up a video he’d found on TikTok and showed it to Yue Sijing. She watched it, baffled, not understanding what it meant, and looked at Lin Yi with pure confusion in her eyes.
"This woman’s name is Jin Dongying. She used to be a lab technician at Wuzhe Mountain Biological Laboratory." Lin Yi said unhurriedly:
"Because of the lab’s mishandling—medical waste being tossed around at will—the three stray dogs she selfishly took in ended up dead. So she went online to blow the whistle about it. Coincidentally, seven days later, this car accident happened."
"This..."
Yue Sijing’s eyes went wide. "The people at the lab killed Jin Dongying!"
"That’s the full chain of events. Now do you still think this is just some simple pollution and environmental protection story?"
"No..."
"Go back and sort all this out. Get the shooting plan done as soon as possible. Once it’s ready, we move out. Oh, and take Yu Han with you on this trip."
"Got it."
Yue Sijing nodded and walked out.
Back at her desk, Yue Sijing felt a deep sense of self‑doubt.
She never would’ve imagined Lin Yi could dig up so many leads. To her, this was what a real journalist was supposed to look like.
Up till now, she’d basically just been doing surface work.
No wonder he’d become a producer in such a short time. Looked like he really had the chops.
Just then, Lin Yi walked out of his office looking relaxed, no one knew where he was heading.
"He struts around like some big shot every day. No idea how many gifts he slipped under the table to become a producer." Zhou Qian griped.
"He’s tight with Zhao Jing. Zhao Jing’s holding two flagship variety shows right now and is the top producer at the station. Him becoming a producer is only natural." Backstage director Zhang Tongqing said:
"If I were better‑looking, I’d go cling to some woman’s thigh too. Too bad I just don’t have what it takes."
"Hahaha..."
The office burst into laughter, except for Feng Xinrui and Hou Zhitao.
After yesterday’s interview, they already knew how formidable Lin Yi was.
Getting the CEO of Lingyun Group to personally receive him—hell, even if the station chief showed up, he wouldn’t get that kind of treatment.
"Xin Rui, Zhitao, Yu Han, go get ready. We’re heading to Corea on a business trip tomorrow."
"Huh?"
Everyone in the office turned to look at her at Yue Sijing’s words.
For them, an overseas assignment was absolutely a cushy gig. They could carve out a day or two to travel locally, all on company dime. So whenever there was a chance like this, everyone tried to get in on it.
Feng Xinrui and Hou Zhitao were naturally excited too—and they at least had some self‑awareness.
They knew perfectly well why Yue Sijing was naming them. Without yesterday’s interview, they wouldn’t be getting this perk.
"Si Jing, is this that environmental interview project?" Zhou Qian asked.
"Yeah." Yue Sijing nodded.
"How many people in total?"
"Principal Lin, me, Xin Rui, Zhitao, and Yu Han."
"Why not me? I’m the host of the program. Technically I’m the one who should be going, right?"
"You’re the host, not in charge of field reporting. So we’re not scheduling you for this one." Yue Sijing kept her head down, sorting out the upcoming interview workflow.
"But Zhao Yuhuan does post‑production. Taking her along doesn’t make sense, does it?"
Zhao Yuhuan felt a bit awkward. She knew perfectly well that under normal circumstances there was no need to bring her, because she was useless out there.
It was Lin Bro looking out for her that got her included.
Because of her, the office was now in turmoil. She felt guilty about it.
"Once shooting’s done, there’ll be editing and production involved, so we’re taking Yu Han."
"You’ve said all that, but I’m guessing it’s really Lin Yi who doesn’t want to take me, right?" Zhou Qian asked.
"Huh? What’s this got to do with him?"
"Because he thinks I’m at odds with her, and to put me in my place, he doesn’t want me going." Zhou Qian snorted. "He really is petty."
"What’s this now? I just went to the bathroom and come back to hear I’m petty."
Hearing Lin Yi’s voice, Zhou Qian froze. Even if she was unhappy with him, being caught in the act complaining about him was still embarrassing.
"That’s not what I meant. I just wanted to ask why I’m not included in this overseas interview. I used to handle this kind of work before."
"Before is before, now is now. Why keep dragging up the past?"
"Let’s be real, you just want to keep me down."
"I don’t have that intention. If you choose to think that way, I can’t help it. If you don’t want to work, you can leave. I absolutely won’t stop you."
Faced with Lin Yi’s tough stance, Zhou Qian’s temper shot right up to the top of her skull.
But in the end she didn’t say another word.
Lin Yi chuckled and went back to his office.
Yue Sijing shook her head helplessly. She really didn’t get why these people insisted on going against Lin Yi.
If you want to butt heads with him, fine. But knowing the relationship’s bad and then whining about not being taken on an overseas trip?
Talk about peak selfishness.
Back in his office, Lin Yi dialed Yan Ci’s number.
"You busy tonight? Let’s grab dinner."
"Dinner, or eating me?"
"That’s a good idea. Let’s do both."
Yan Ci gave a sultry laugh. "Then put it on me, and you can eat it all together."
Tsk tsk tsk...
This game was all too familiar—verging on perverted.
"I’m coming over now."
"Mm, come."
Once he hung up, Lin Yi clocked out, drove over to Yan Ci’s company.
He called her from the entrance, and a few minutes later she came down.
She was wearing a black suit dress with a shawl over it, and high heels on her feet—an outfit dripping with femininity.
Seeing Lin Yi’s car, Yan Ci opened the door and got in.
"Director Lin asking me out on his own—do you need something?"
