Chapter 3638: Two Facts

Whether the Sky God would give him a cultivation technique to pass along to Pearl or not was something he would have to wait and see. For now, just the idea of Pearl using two different cultivation techniques in conjunction to quicken his cultivation speed was enough of a solution for Alex to move past this into the rest of the scenarios.

He also thought of Whisker’s situation at the same time, and while Whisker did have 4 roots, none of that mattered since his cultivation technique was just the technique for Undying Physique, which entirely relied on the Yin root. So, if Whisker needed to do better, he needed to make his Yin root better.

If there was anything more, Alex would get to it soon.

As Alex continued the tests, he began testing combinations where both Yin and Yang roots were present. Considering how the two roots acted when it was just the two of them, he was curious how that would influence his speed when a third root was added.

Alex could have prepared many ideas in advance, but the one that came true was one he thought would be the most unlikely.

Adding a third root to the Yin and Yang roots ended up making them useless.

Whether it was Water, Wood, Earth, or Fire roots, as soon as Alex began cultivating, the two greater roots affected the third root and essentially entered a stalemate scenario where neither could get the upper hand.

For roots that were empowered by one, the other suppressed, causing practically no change to happen. As such, having two Supreme greater roots became irrelevant when a third one was added. All the results Alex received were exactly the same as when those third roots were all alone.

Alex was rather surprised by the outcome, not only because he had expected better when two Supreme Roots were involved, but also because the two roots didn’t react the way they usually did with each other.

Unlike previously, when they ignored each other or simply fought against each other, they now seemed completely invested in the single root. And since both affected the root in opposite ways, there was no improvement or degradation to the scores.

Alex went through all 4 tests and got the same result. It was obvious at that point that if someone were to be born with 3 spirit roots in this combination, it was always best if they simply found a way to get rid of the regular spirit root.

However, when Alex got to the Metal root, things changed almost instantly. Perhaps because of its Supreme grade, the Supreme Yang and Yin roots were not able to affect it in any significant way, and thus weren’t bound to it like they were with the other roots.

They did affect it still, which was to say they canceled each other out, but at the same time, they also weren’t so used up that they couldn’t do anything on their own. So, while Alex could cultivate using his Metal root, he could also cultivate with his Yin and Yang roots at the same time, albeit at a much weaker pace.

After completing the test, Alex realized that the overall result he received from the three roots was easily one of the best ones ever. It was even better than the older baseline numbers, gaining an average of 1850 score, with generally stable high and low extremes as well.

His average score with those 3 roots was 400 lower than the best he currently had, so Alex was quite happy with the results.

With that also came the end of the triple-root tests. He needed to move on to the four roots soon, which Alex was more or less certain what the results would be now. He didn’t even have to test them at all, but he looked forward to doing so.

While he reset his body with a regular cultivation session, he went through the information he had received by this point on the Supreme roots.

Based on everything, it was clear that having Supreme Roots was one way to improve as a cultivator. However, whether that was one way to improve Unity or not was still something Alex wasn’t certain about.

Before Alex even had a single Supreme root, he already had a very high Unity, which was enough for him to regain control of his body from anyone so long as he cultivated. And the only possible reason for that was because he had 7 spirit roots.

’What if that information by itself is false?’ Alex wondered in that moment.

He had started this test and continued it throughout with 2 pieces of information he had taken in as fact.

First, the better the Unity of a cultivator, the faster they cultivated.

Second, when their Unity reached near peak, they could withstand any and all sorts of mental takeovers.

However, what if that was wrong?

What if the property of a person being able to withstand mental takeovers was not related to Unity, but simply the spirit roots? What if having all spirit roots by itself gave one that ability?

Considering how absolutely horrible some of his spirit roots were back when he had just started cultivating, his Unity could not have been that high. Which meant he was regaining his consciousness because of the combination of his roots, through some sort of synergy they formed.

"It is not that I can do that because I have reached near peak with my Unity, but because that is simply the property of having the 7 spirit roots. Considering my spirit roots, they should not have been that great."

If that were true in any way, it meant that Alex had been under the wrong impression this entire time.

Although he may have started on the wrong path, the destination still had to be the same.

"Perfect Unity is still unattainable for me at the moment, which can likely mean that I still have many improvements to do. Removal of any of my spirit roots can’t be that improvement, so that can mean just one thing."

Alex needed to get all remaining 4 of his spirit roots into the Supreme grade.
