Chapter 3656: Forgotten Memories?

Chapter 3656: Forgotten Memories?

Alex and Bladedance left the Deathly Poison Sect a while later after making no progress at all. They had managed to figure out that Somberskull was not who they were looking for, so that was another name crossed off their list, leaving behind four more possible names.

However, after chatting with the old man, he might have to add a fifth name to the list now. A name he wasn’t even sure existed at all.

"That was similar to my memories," Alex said to Bladedance on the carriage ride back. "He most likely remembers there being 13 of them but has forgotten about one of them entirely."

"Most likely," Bladedance said. "I’m curious to know how it has happened. If this is truly the case of this Death Sage erasing himself from the memories of others, then I can’t even tell how we could ever find out about him. What if we learn about him and get close, but when we finally confront him, he gets rid of our memories of him again?"

Alex frowned upon hearing that. Considering everything, it was definitely a potential scenario.

"I have a technique that stops someone from affecting me, so maybe I can use that," Alex said in the end. That was the only thing he could possibly use to stop whatever this thing was from affecting him.

There were parts of Alex that wondered just how one could possibly remove their names and memories from not just a human being, but from the inheritances and the artifact spirit.

Unless he had somehow done that before the inheritance was created.

It could be possible that the Death Sage may have found Godslayer at some point in the past and used his technique on the sword.

Since Alex knew little to nothing, anything was possible at the moment. All he could do for now was ignore the thing entirely and just focus on the other Death Sages. Once he went through the other four to complete the 12, he could go searching for the fabled thirteenth.

It didn’t take long for Alex to return to the Sky God’s palace, at which point he let them know that he was willing to get to work right away.

The Sky God sent Silkspear along to help him in this instance, as Ronron wasn’t present and the Sky God wouldn’t be around at all times to answer all his small inquiries. Silkspear was her unofficial disciple, so she could easily replace Ronron for the smaller stuff.

Alex met Silkspear in a large building close to the entrance of the palace. She sat on a couch with a cup of tea in her hand, wearing a faded blue robe. Before her, another woman sat, wearing a bright green robe, merely sitting there calmly.

Alex smiled upon noticing the woman. "Sister Hao Ya! It’s great to see you again. How have you been?"

Hao Ya turned, a gentle smile forming on her face. "I’ve been great," she answered. "How have you been?"

"Honestly, never better," Alex said before turning toward Silkspear. "Greetings, senior."

Silkspear quickly shook her hand. "Don’t call me that, please. It feels strange having my little sister’s father call me senior. Just call me Silkspear."

"I can’t do that, I’m afraid," Alex said. "I can call you Reverend Silkspear if you find the other a little awkward."

Silkspear made a face that told him that she found that quite awkward as well, but compared to the first one, this was much more doable. She gestured for Alex to sit on the couch before her and sipped on her cup of tea before looking back up.

"Alright. Can you explain to me just what is happening here? Master told me to assist you with some sort of test that will involve every single person, from the lowest soldiers to the highest sages. What exactly are we doing?" she asked.

"Were you here when I learned a Dao recently?" Alex asked Silkspear.

"I was. We all were," Silkspear said. "Does this have something to do with that Dao?"

Alex nodded. "The Dao I learned was one that improved my understanding of spirit roots and how they interact with each other. Thanks to that, I can make plans on what one could do to improve their spirit root combinations to have the maximum effect in their cultivation session."

The woman raised an eyebrow. "Do you mind testing me first?" she asked curiously.

"I can, but... I don’t have the instruments, I’m afraid," Alex said. "I need some sort of artifact or formation that can help me tell the actual combination of the spirit roots inside of a person’s body, including the degree of their strength. Do you happen to have something like that?"

Silkspear thought for a moment. "Not me, but I believe senior Bluedoor has it. Let me borrow it from him real quick."

Silkspear called for a soldier in the palace and gave them the command. The soldier nodded and quickly left to fulfill said command.

Alex turned to Hao Ya in the meanwhile, talking with her. "How do you find the Sky God’s palace? Is it as you had expected it to be all your life?"

Hao Ya gave a half nod. "It’s similar to what I expected it to be, and yet it is also different in many other ways. It’s hard to explain just what it is like."

Alex nodded. He supposed he understood as well.

"Have you met your master by any chance?" he asked.

Hao Ya shook her head. "I don’t think I’ll ever get the chance to. He’s under very strict house arrest, from what I understand," Hao Ya said.

"It’s serious," Silkspear added from the other side of the couch. "Even us disciples haven’t had the chance to go meet with brother Renye. It’s to a point where we don’t even know if he’s in the courtyard to begin with."

Alex narrowed his eyes. Was that even possible?

He supposed he would find out soon. After all, he would be meeting him in the near future.
