Chapter 3737: More Challenges

Liz’s fight went about as well as one would expect, given the restriction she had to fight under.

While being allowed to use her sword also meant that she could use sword techniques, without the Time Dao that she used to win most of her battles, she simply had no way of doing much against her opponent this time around.

Her opponent seemed to quickly realize her lack of combat prowess and took advantage of it by remaining far away and throwing attacks toward her that she could only block or dodge. Her own attacks hardly did much due to how weak they were.

In the end, Liz lost without a single moment in her fight where victory seemed like a possibility. Sighing, she gave away one star and returned to where Alex was.

Ronron had already returned by his side by then, her race having long since ended.

"How did you do?" Liz asked Ronron as she came back.

"I lost," Ronron said. "I wasn’t allowed to use any technique during a race. There was no way for me to win."

"Same with me," Liz said. "I know how to fight with a sword, but I’m not so good that I can entirely rely on it."

"That’s what I’m trying to change," Alex said, his eyes not moving from his mother.

Helen was in a much better position than the other two since she had no restrictions on her fighting at all. Alex’s entire intention with Helen had been to make her fight when challenged, instead of choosing any other challenge where she had a possibility of winning.

Her fight lasted a little longer, and Alex could see her potential with the spear in the fight. The various skills she used, however, were either the wrong ones for the moment, or simply mistimed. There was much for his mother to learn.

"Hey, either of you two wanna challenge me?" the man who had just won against Liz asked them.

Alex looked toward Ronron.

Ronron rolled her eyes and turned toward the man. "Yes, I challenge you."

The man accepted a fight, and Ronron had to go fight the man.

Alex turned toward Liz and pointed toward the woman who had fought against Ronron. "She’s free."

"So?" Liz asked.

"You should challenge her."

Liz let out a sigh as well. "Fine. I’ll do it."

She challenged the woman and left for a fight as well.

Alex turned toward Battlesage, who was in a serious battle. Their cultivation bases were equal, so as long as Battlesage didn’t rely on his body cultivation, it could be a decent battle. Though, Alex saw no way for the old man to lose considering he wouldn’t be hurt at all.

Alex could only imagine the old man had something planned in order to accept defeat. If not, then that was his prerogative.

Helen’s fight finally ended a few minutes later, at the end of which she was somewhat out of breath. "I did my best, but I couldn’t win," she said with a disappointed face.

Alex looked toward her. "You didn’t use any of your Daos, Mother," he said.

"No. I thought we were supposed to restrict that to learn," Helen said.

"For the others, yes. But you shouldn’t hold back. Fight as best as you can. You need to give it your all before you can improve," Alex said. "Otherwise, you might end up developing a bad habit of not using the correct Dao at the correct time."

Helen nodded.

The woman who had won against Helen looked toward Alex, but she seemed to consider him too strong to fight, so she didn’t challenge him. She didn’t even look like she wanted to be challenged at all.

"What about you?" Helen asked Alex. "Are you really just going to spend your time like this, doing nothing?"

"Yes," Alex said. "What else can I do?"

"I don’t know. Isn’t there something you need to train as well?" Helen asked. "Surely you’re not the very best at everything."

Alex let out a soft chuckle. "No, but unless I meet stronger opponents, I can’t really practice what I need to," he said.

What Alex wanted to test was his Falling Rain Blossom technique and the Sword Breaker technique. Both of those relied on him using Sword Heart, which was currently in the Divine realm in terms of strength. He simply couldn’t use it.

"Is there nothing you can test?" Helen asked. "Surely there are restrictions you can place upon yourself to help yourself train as well."

Alex hesitated for a bit, thinking if there was something he could train. After a moment, he slowly nodded.

"Well, there is something I can train," Alex said. "It might end up being useful too."

Before Helen could suggest he do it, Alex went ahead and challenged the woman. The woman’s face fell slightly upon hearing the challenge, since she wasn’t allowed to refuse it.

She could only make the choice on what sort of challenge she wanted this to be. There were a couple of options for her, it seemed, as she took a few moments to think through the possibilities before landing on one that she wanted.

"I challenge you to a test to see who has the best Earth spirit root."

Alex blinked in surprise. He could not have guessed that the woman would ask for such a test in a thousand years. And funnily enough, if she was confident in her Earth spirit root, she could propose this challenge. It was very much valid.

The only options Alex had in this instance were for him to take part in the test, forfeit a star, or propose a different test. But doing so would cost him a lot of stars if he had more.

In the end, he could only shrug and accept it. His Earth root wasn’t the best, but it was still good. So he was curious to see what the result would be as well.

"Very well. How shall we test this?"
