Chapter 3777: Holding Back
Luo Qingruo couldn’t understand what was happening.
To begin with, she hadn’t the faintest clue why Alex’s sword attacks were that strong. His cultivation base itself wasn’t that strong to her. Despite his claim of it being around the Immortal Spirit 7th realm, that just wasn’t strong enough to defeat her.
She imagined the truth was instead that his Sword Intent was strong, which it likely was considering the attacks she was facing from him. But what about her Spirit’s effect on his body?
He was currently supposed to weigh thousands and thousands of tons, which should have made his body sluggish, and yet he didn’t show a single change in expression at all.
Luo Qingruo used her Divine Qi to empower her sword again and swung down at the incoming attack. The burden she felt on her own body at dishing out Divine attacks was quite a lot, and yet she had to keep doing it nonstop.
She was drenched from head to toe with how much she had to push herself, and yet when she looked toward Alex, she could see not even a bead of sweat on his face.
Alex swung without much care in his mind, his only goal being to throw out his attacks so Qingruo could keep fighting back. He wasn’t sure if she could last much longer or not, but he wanted her to keep going just long enough so that the defeat wasn’t going to be humiliating for her.
After all, she had called him the Sun God, and he had promised to go easy on anyone who did.
After attacking several more times, Alex could see Luo Qingruo getting weaker. "You should stop using your Spirit. It’s not helping you much."
Qingruo gasped for air. "How... how are you removing the effect of my Spirit?" she asked. "You should be weighing thousands of tons at the moment."
"I am," Alex said. "It might’ve even worked on me had I not had the body cultivation I do."
Qingruo’s eyes slowly opened wide. "Body cultivation?"
Alex nodded. "I have a Divine realm body cultivation."
Qingruo couldn’t believe his words at first, simply assuming that he was lying for some reason. But as seconds passed by, it all made sense.
"That means... you always had the strength to beat me already," she said. "You just never did. If you fight at close range, I won’t be able to defeat you."
Alex stopped attacking and laughed a little. "Well, you’re wrong there."
Qingruo paused. "You can’t defeat me? Even though you claim to have a body cultivation in the Divine realm?" she asked.
"The other way around," Alex said. "I don’t need my body cultivation to defeat you. That’s because I have been holding back all this time."
He raised his sword, and suddenly, it glowed with a brightness that Qingruo hadn’t seen before. The brightness didn’t just cover his black sword, but it also extended, growing nearly three times the size of his sword.
Qingruo couldn’t understand what she was looking at. What part of someone’s Sword Intent allowed them to do this?
Sword Heart Breaker wasn’t a thing that many outside of Bladedance’s friends and foes knew about.
"You can try to stop this, but I suggest you dodge instead," Alex said out loud before swinging down.
A much stronger sword slash than any he had released until now flew out of his sword, carving a deep gouge out of the earth as it made its way toward Qingruo.
Qingruo held her sight on the slash, preparing to attack. But even as it came toward her, her instincts told her this wasn’t right. At the last moment, she flew out of the way, letting the attack pass her harmlessly. It kept going for a long time before ending in an explosion of dirt and rock far away.
It wasn’t just Qingruo who was surprised, but even the crowd.
Qingruo had just turned to look at the result of the attack when she saw Alex standing right next to her with his palm out. "My star please, and I’ll be on my way."
Her eyes moved first before freezing on his face. Then her face turned toward him with a look of horror. She looked back at the location where he had previously been standing, and yet he had moved from there to here with such speed that she hadn’t even realized he had come.
With such speed and strength, he could easily be the strongest cultivator in the younger generation.
"Who are you?" she asked.
Alex smiled. "You know who I am."
Qingruo gulped. "The Sun God."
"That’s correct," Alex said. "Now, my star?"
Qingruo handed over the single star. No more had been suggested, so that was all she had lost, despite the challenge being a really difficult one. Had Alex increased the amount during the bet, she would have likely lost it all. There was not a chance that she would have given up before they even began.
Alex placed the star away and nodded toward the woman.
"Right then, I shall be leaving. Thank you for your time."
He walked away, taking gentle steps through the crowd. The crowd parted, not a single one daring to challenge him. But one did stop him.
"Senior!" someone said as they quickly rushed out of the crowd. It was a woman who looked slightly older than the average cultivator there.
"Yes?" Alex asked, turning toward her.
"May I leave with you?" she asked.
Alex shrugged. "You are free to do what you want. I’m not going to enable you or stop you."
The woman smiled and gave a deep bow. "Thank you."
"Me too!" someone shouted, walking out of the crowd.
"I want to leave as well."
"Hey, stop. Why are you guys leaving?"
"I’m not handing over my stars anymore. I’m leaving."
Alex hadn’t expected it at first, but his words had created an avalanche of quitters, and nearly a third of the entire community walked away.
As Alex watched them leave, he wondered if in their greed to not lose a star a week, had they realized that they would be losing so many more now.
