Chapter 3933: Spirit Purging
The sudden flaring of the Yellow Fog was not something Alex had done of his own accord. For the first time in a long time, the Yellow Fog had reacted on its own. His body had reacted on its own.
’What’s happening?’ Alex thought. ’The Yellow Fog is only supposed to appear when something foreign is within me that needs to be purged. But I sensed nothing.’
Alex took half a second to get his thoughts in order, and while he didn’t really know what had happened, he knew one thing. He trusted his body more than he did his senses at the moment. Which meant there really was something foreign inside his mind right then.
That could only mean one thing.
"What are you trying to do?" Alex asked.
Suddenly, Yang flowed out of his body, covering him in a layer that made all external senses and energy burn away before they could reach him.
The Mind God reacted with stark surprise.
"Interesting," he said slowly.
Alex stood up from the couch, immediately growing defensive. "What were you trying to do to me, Mind God?" he asked.
The Mind God smiled widely. "You have fascinated me, young Dawnblade."
Alex held in a frustrated grunt. "Please leave this place right away. And do not return here again. You are not welcome."
The Mind God kept his smile as he stood up, standing there for a second just looking at him. "Huh, you might’ve actually made for a great disciple."
"I do not wish to be your disciple. Please leave."
The Mind God shrugged. "What a shame." He turned toward Sunflare, who had grown curious about the entire situation and was waiting to step in should he be needed. "I shall see you around, senior."
Sunflare didn’t react at all. He simply watched the Mind God and waited for him to make his way out of the house.
Alex stood right where he was all the way until the Mind God had made his way out of the gate before finally slumping back onto the couch.
"What happened?" Sunflare asked. "Why did you react the way you did?"
"I don’t know," Alex said, still frowning. He touched his head, but he couldn’t feel any changes. "Did you sense anything earlier? Was he using any technique?"
Sunflare shook his head. "I sensed nothing at all."
"Really? No Intent? Or an Axiom, maybe?" Alex asked.
"The only Axiom here is mine. That man wasn’t a Celestial, so I would have realized if he tried to force his Axiom in a place where mine already exists."
"I see," Alex said slowly. "Well, I am more or less certain that he tried to do something to me."
"Do something? What do you mean?" Sunflare asked.
"I don’t understand it either. But my body is the Sun God’s body, so it is capable of purging everything foreign all on its own. That happened earlier inside my Spiritual Sea, which means that he was trying something, something that neither of us sensed at all. Only my body reacted to it, and my Yellow Fog purged it."
Sunflare held a raised, hairless brow. "I see. That must’ve been the Spirit Purging Fog."
Alex turned toward the man. "Spirit Purging Fog? Is that what it is called?"
Sunflare didn’t react to his question. "What do you think he was doing?"
"I don’t know," Alex said. "Maybe he was trying to look into my memories? Maybe he was trying to place a seal on me to track where I go. Could be a multitude of things. He is the Mind God, so who knows what he was capable of doing."
Sunflare crossed his arms. "It’s really strange, though. I truly sensed nothing at all. Could it be that maybe you misunderstood your body’s reaction to something else?"
"No. The way he reacted, he knew he had been caught," Alex said, frowning even more now that he thought back to how it had been. "Shit! I need to talk to my master quickly."
Alex immediately pulled out his talisman and sent a message to Bladedance, explaining what had happened earlier, including the fact that the Mind God somehow knew about the World Tree. Bladedance arrived at the courtyard quite quickly and took in the report in detail.
"Are you sure he knew about the tree?" she asked. "It’s possible he was baiting you."
"No, he knew about it," Alex said. "It’s possible he made a guess, but I’m more willing to believe that he may have gotten that information after talking to some of the others who knew about it. I’m sure you’re going to take this to the Sky God. When you do, could you ask her to check on Ronron, Hao Ya, and Senior Battlesage? They may not have realized that the Mind God is capable of reading through their lies and simply claimed they didn’t know about it."
Bladedance nodded after some thought. "I’ll talk to them. If what you say is true, then it doesn’t matter where he got that information from. It’s more important that he doesn’t spread it."
"How do we accomplish that?" Alex asked. "I don’t think there’s anything short of bribing that can help us."
Bladedance shook her head. "You don’t have to worry about that. Focus your entire attention on preparing for the duel. Let the Sky God and me figure out what the Mind God knows and what he intends to do with it. Don’t worry about your daughter or your friends either. We will take care of them."
Alex felt a sense of relief upon hearing all of that. Good or bad, he wouldn’t have to bear the consequences of the Mind God’s knowledge alone.
Bladedance left not long after, leaving Alex behind to return to his cultivation session once more.
It had only been a year and a half since he started, so he could go on for about that long before the resources ended. So, he needed to put his entire focus on that for now and try to reach the next realm as soon as he could.
