Chapter 2711: Summon Fusion

Time: Unspecified

Location: Myriad Realms, Card World, Southern Region, Blossom District, Sky Blossom City, TSR Guild Headquarters

"I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions," Corey said, the words stiff but sincere enough. Then she shrugged, like she couldn’t help herself. "But I wasn’t completely wrong. Demigod Godson was friends with Devil Merchants, and Pax is a demon merchant now. As for why he didn’t tell you... ask him. If I had to guess, he knew exactly how your crazy ass would react and didn’t want to deal with it."

Before she could dig herself deeper, I stepped in. "Geez, Corey. Let it go."

"Not until she apologizes for calling my family heretics." Corey’s glare locked onto Catherine.

Catherine blinked, genuinely confused. "When did I call your family heretics?"

"Not my blood family," Corey snapped. "My demon merchant family. My dark race friends." Her voice rose sharply. "I’m a demon merchant too. I practice both the Card World and Dark Realm power systems."

"That explains it." Saintess Catherine’s gaze sharpened, and with a fanatic grin on her face and strong conviction, she said, "No wonder I sensed uneasiness from you. Like I was in the presence of great evil. I said nothing wrong. If anything, I didn’t say enough."

"That’s it. I’ve heard enough of your nonsense. Lil’ Baem! Kill that bitch," Corey snapped and commanded unforgivingly.

The moment she realized Saintess Catherine had nothing useful to offer, whatever restraint she’d been holding onto vanished. Tolerance wasn’t even on the table anymore.

Yeah, she had promised her boss she wouldn’t stir up trouble and begged him to make use of her. But in Corey’s mind, the saintess crossed the line. She believed her boss would want this too. So, she was doing him a favor by taking out the trash.

How dare Catherine call them damned heretics waiting for divine judgment to their faces? For that kind of audacity, she had to pay with her life.

With her master’s command, the soul energy around Lil’ Baem vibrated dangerously as it roared to life like a jet engine kicking on. The air warped as it began revealing its true form, the pressure tearing at the already strained fabric of the stretched space in my limitless celestial domain.

I felt the distortion almost immediately. If I let this continue unchecked, the damage would spread to the entire campus. So I limited my limitless celestial domain to the campus alone. If I hadn’t, Lil’ Baem’s size and weight would’ve ripped space open wide enough to swallow the entire campus into the void.

Lil’ Baem’s massive body smashed through the array formation covering the campus and covered the sky whole. Blood from the blood storm slicked across its form, then ran off in heavy streams, splashing down onto the campus below.

Looking up at the humongous white serpent, Saintess Catherine didn’t retreat. She stood her ground, eyes fixed on it as its massive jaws descended, aiming to swallow her whole. Instead of stepping back in panic, she moved forward in conviction. She charged straight at it, praying aloud as she advanced:

"To scour the rot of evil from the paradise, I rise in my Lord’s name.

Card in hand, oath in heart, I stand where shadows gather and refuse to kneel.

Let the abyss bare its fangs. Let the night summon its horrors.

In my Lord’s name, I fight.

For,

My loyalty is undying.

My devotion is unparalleled.

My faith is undefeated."

Just when everyone thought the sinister serpent was about to swallow the Saintess whole, a burst of golden light split the skies and rained down on Lil’ Baem’s head. At the same time, a massive golden apparition shot out of Saintess Catherine’s body, seized the serpent’s jaws, and began forcing them apart.

The form of the golden apparition hit me hard. It reminded me of Pax’s fated ingredient, the pendant bearing the cross of Demigod Micheal Angelo Godson.

"Lil’ Baem!" Corey shouted, panic breaking through as she saw her pet serpent pinned from above and below. She summoned her grimoire and activated the Summon Fusion card. Her body dissolved into energy and vanished, merging straight into Lil’ Baem’s body.

With Corey fused into it, Lil’ Baem’s white scales ignited.

White flames rolled across its body, not spreading outward but clinging tight to each scale, burning away the blood raining on it. From those flames, thick reddish black fog poured out, coiling and circling the serpent in heavy spirals until it gathered overhead like a single massive storm cloud anchored to its body.

The fog didn’t just drift away but churned around its form.

Inside that dark mass, streaks of white fire lashed and twisted, snapping through the cloud like serpent-shaped lightning trapped in a thunderhead. Each surge followed the curve of Lil’ Baem’s massive form, as if the storm itself had learned its shape.

Fusion Corey and Lil’ Baem spat grey fog at the golden apparition while using the dark smoke churning around its form as a shield against the golden beam of light.

The grey fog weakened the golden apparition. As it dimmed, Lil’ Baem’s jaws snapped shut on it, breaking the apparition into numerous tiny pieces. Then it turned around and opened its mouth wide, swallowing the golden light beam until it ran out, before facing the horrified Saintess Catherine.

"Apologize!" Corey’s voice boomed through Lil’ Baem, thundering into every nook and corner of the city.

"Just kill me, you damned heathen!" Saintess Catherine shouted back. She was helpless as Corey and her pet snake had taken her strongest attack head-on and come out unscathed.

She was here to ally with the World Terrorist. Instead, someone like Corey was questioning her authority and insulting her faith at every turn. She had intended to use this fight to establish a pecking order, but it was clear she was out of her league here.

"Oh, I plan to do exactly that after you apologize," Corey replied as the white variant Eternal Flame of Agony covering Lil’ Baem’s body surged forward and shot toward Catherine.
