Chapter 2883: The New Border Force

"Very well. You guys will serve under the Field Marshal’s command from now on."

I looked at the fifteen demigods Seraphina had left behind, they chose to surrender to me with some persuasion from the Field Marshal. So, I decided it was about time the Field Marshal began building a force of her own. With her experience, doing otherwise would be a waste of her talent and abilities.

Not to mention, among the soldiers stationed at the two Southern Watch bases we were about to capture, many would be from the parts of the Southern Region I had already conquered. The Border City could take them in, but having the Field Marshal personally lead them would spark far bigger discussions across the rest of the Southern Region, giving the revolution a massive push forward.

"Wyatt?"

The Field Marshal had been completely unaware of the discussion. She had expected me to throw the fifteen of them into my criminal rehabilitation and reintegration camp.

"Lead these fifteen, along with those who defect from the two Southern Watch bases, and guard the new border between the New Empire and the Southern Region. Aurelia, Diana, and the others will handle the rest."

"My lord, are you sure you can trust us with such an important task?" the vice-captain asked in panic. After all, only a few minutes ago, they had come here to kill this lord, and now they were being assigned to guard his empire.

"I don’t trust you yet, but I trust the Field Marshal. If she believes in you guys, then I’ll believe in you guys too. So you all owe your lives to her. She saved you from a fate worse than death."

The fifteen demigods gratefully bowed to the Field Marshal, not only in gratitude but also in acknowledgment of her as their new commander.

Meanwhile, the Field Marshal frowned and asked me, "Wyatt, I don’t think the defectors from those two bases alone will be enough to guard the new borders."

I shook my head and reassured her, "Don’t worry. The number of defectors will be more than enough. You should be more concerned about how you’re going to rally them."

I said that with confidence because the Hive Spirit had already broken into the systems of the two Southern Watch bases, in fact, the entire Southern Region, and gone through the files of every soldier stationed there. As expected, most of them were from the unconquered parts of the Southern Region.

So the Hive AI had stealthily begun transferring those soldiers out and replacing them with troops from other bases whose families lived in the conquered territories of the Southern Region.

Doing this would not only make the bases easier for us to conquer, but also provide my new empire with a large number of experienced veteran soldiers. However, it could only be done in moderation, because no matter how capable the Hive Spirit was, there was always a risk of being discovered, especially with the current tensions running so high.

Seeing the smile on my face, the Field Marshal shook her head, knowing I already had another scheme in motion and that she would receive the numbers I had promised. Though the Fifteen demigods and Corey had no idea what was going on.

"Alright then, I’ll get in touch with the Border City forces and the Freedom Fighters regarding the attack on the two Southern Watch camps."

"Good."

As I withdrew the double celestial domain, the Field Marshal left alongside the fifteen demigods. Meanwhile, my moody enforcer and her pet snake simply stood beside me, unsure of what to do next.

Come to think of it, among my subordinates, Corey probably had both the most responsibility and the most free time... thanks to Park and Agony pulling the cart for her behind the scenes.

"Wyatt, doesn’t an enforcer usually get a department, subordinates, and budget? How am I supposed to keep all the forces in check by myself?"

"First, bring me a proposal, if it makes sense then I will not only allot you a department, subordinates, and budget, but also give you generous incentives for every offender you catch. Does that sound doable to you?"

Corey thought hard about what I said before rejecting it.

"No, it doesn’t sound good. How come the Field Marshal, Freedom Fighters, and others get everything before they ask but I have to make a proposal?"

"That’s because they had a good track record and if they fail me, I can deal with them accordingly. You on the other hand not only don’t have a great track record, you are a cry baby."

"Cry baby—"

"Don’t you dare deny it. You just whined about being my enforcer."

Before Corey could argue further, I cut her off, jogging her memory.

"Fine, I’ll write a proposal. I’ll write such an amazing proposal that you’ll be kissing my hand, weeping and begging for forgiveness for ever doubting me."

"Great. Then go write it."

"I will write it."

"Alright, go write it."

"I’ll write it when I want to."

"Okay, Fine."

"Fine."

"Fine."

"Fine."

Corey ended up getting into a screaming match with me, but this time, I refused to back down.

Until, I suddenly felt Anna standing behind me. Half of me expected her to wrap her arms around my waist from behind like she used to in the old days. Instead, she merely smirked and said, "I see. Day by day, you’re turning into a child."

"He is a child, you old hag!" Corey shot back at Anna’s remark. Before the latter could even react, Corey used her Void Silk to slip into the void and flee for her life, having killed two birds with one stone.

With Corey gone, Anna had nowhere left to vent her anger and turned to glare at me instead. In response, I simply shrugged and said, "Hey, don’t look at me. That’s your goddaughter."
