Seeing him like this, Lu Xinyi didn’t ask more questions. She hadn’t really expected that the old man would willingly give this brooch back to her. In all honesty, she had long accepted that she might never be able to retrieve it from Sun Feiyan.
“No take-backs then,” Finally, a genuine smile bloomed on her face, but her eyes glinted with malice. “Too bad though that couldn’t be said for the Sun Corporation.”
The smile on Sun Liuxian’s face stiffened. Lu Xinyi slowly raised her head and revealed the hatred in her eyes.
“This… what do you mean, Xin’er?” The old man leaned forward. The blanket on his lap fell on the cold floor.
“How do you think I managed to take over your company? Do you really think I did all these troubles to help you?” She threw the folder she was holding since she arrived at his table.
“Several shareholders had transferred their shares to me willingly while your precious daughter sold the shares from the stock market to me. Why do you think I did that?”
His expression became stiffer. Chairman Sun looked at the folder for a moment before flicking through the pages inside. Although his emotions were restrained, Lu Xinyi was able to see the hint of shock on his eyes.
He read the pages one by one, and the conspiracy and gentle traps that his granddaughter set up for them were revealed. It was a well-thought conspiracy that his daughter and Feiyan failed to stop.
The more he went through the details and pages, the more he understood the complicated web of conspiracy Lu Xinyi prepared for him. Adding up the shares, it was enough to surpass the part of his and Sun Mingai’s share.
“Why did you do this?!” He yelled and threw the folder towards Lu Xinyi. Papers were thrown in the air, hitting Lu Xinyi’s face, but she remained impassive. “You are my granddaughter! You didn’t need to stab us behind our back when I treated you well.”
Lu Xinyi sneered inwardly at his lies. Was this old man wasn’t afraid to be hit with lightning?
“I have never been your granddaughter. Not in this life, not in the future.”
She watched as her grandfather’s expression changed little by little and wanted to laugh. His face became paler and paler. He could no longer control the trembling of his hands after seeing her signature on the last page. His whole body trembled, lost balance, and fell on the floor.
Lu Xinyi didn’t dare to move to help him at all. Did he understand now how it felt to be betrayed by his own kin? Wasn’t this what her mother felt like when her own family forced her towards her death?
Her gaze landed on the last page Chairman Sun had read where her signature was. Lu Xinyi had just sold the whole Sun Corporation to their rival company.
“You! How did my Sun family fall because of a despicable woman like you?!”
“Chairman Sun, do you really think I want to be associated with your family. Are you forgetting what my surname is? I’m a Lu, and I’ll always be a Lu. At first, I wanted to give your company to my grandmother, Tang Lingfei. While she was able to pull out her support from the Sun Corporation, the interest of your debt was never paid.”
Sun Liuxian’s eyes were bloodshot. He was seething in anger and wanted to say something to retort, but his breathing started to strain. The words he wanted to say were stuck on his throat.
“You say I’m your granddaughter? You aren’t worthy at all. My mother also didn’t deserve to have a father like you! When you came back from your business trip only to find my mother died, what was the first thing you did? You sent Sun Mingai abroad to hide and hid the truth behind my mother’s death!” ρꪖꪕᦔꪖꪕꪫꪣꫀꪶ
Lu Xinyi’s anger thrummed through her veins.
“And now, you dare to blame me? Have you ever thought that all of these could be your fault?” She scoffed and stood with crossed arms, watching her grandfather heave to steady his breath. He forced his body to crawl towards his table, lifted himself up, and took the small bottle of pills on his table.
He managed to loosen the cap, but with his trembling hands, his pills spilled on the floor. The while pills rolled on the red-carpeted floor away from him.
With a loud thud, he fell heavily on his knees with his back bent. With this position, outsiders might think he was asking forgiveness to his granddaughter.
Sun Liuxian realized that the pills he needed were out of his reach. Lu Xinyi then squatted and picked up one pill near her, but she didn’t give it to her grandfather and instead checked the pill closely.
The old man raised his hand toward her as if he was begging.
Was he begging for forgiveness or begging for mercy to save his life?
Lu Xinyi then shifted her gaze from the pill to her grandfather. Who’s thought that there would be a day that this detestable man would succumb and beg for his granddaughter’s mercy? Resentment clouded her thoughts.
Sun Liuxian could feel the aching sensation in his chest and shortness of breath. He was obviously in delirious pain. He broke out in a cold sweat and felt lightheaded.
Lu Xinyi smiled, leaned down, and opened her hand; showing the pill in it. However, before the old man could get the pill, she purposely dropped it on the floor and stepped on it with her right foot.
“This looks familiar isn’t it, Grandfather?” Lu Xinyi asked with sarcasm. “Don’t you think this is weirdly the same as how my mother begged for her life? I’ve long lost my respect to you, but after finding the truth, I guess you really are a disgusting human being. Are you going to blame me too if you die today? Whether you live or die—like my mother—depends on your luck… if some kind-hearted person would be able to find you.”
Lu Xinyi smiled and closed the small velvet box on her hand. She patted his shoulder lightly and turned to leave. Her footsteps crushing the remaining pills that scattered on her way.
As Lu Xinyi arrived at the hallway, her steps faltered. She pondered if she’d done the right thing. Will her mother be happy if she knew what she did to her grandfather?
Lu Xinyi closed her eyes and took a deep breath. No. She wasn’t a murderer. If she left that old man alone to die, then she would be no different from her aunts who abandoned her dying mother.
“Miss Xinyi?” Chairman Sun’s assistant called her name. He was holding a tray with a tea kettle and cups on it. “You’re leaving already?”
“Yes.” She nodded in response. “Please check on the chairman. It seemed he wasn’t pleased with the news I shared with him. He was having a hard time breathing properly when I left his study.”
The assistant’s face went pale and hurriedly left to see Chairman Sun, and with that… Lu Xinyi left the Sun Estate in a daze, making her bodyguard worry about her.
