Chapter 2652: Chapter 2652: Demanding The Answer From Chen Song
Arriving back at her house, she brought the car to a sudden halt. The first and most urgent thing she needed to do was take a quick shower. After the horrifying discovery that the lingering, unpleasant smell had actually been her own urine, she realised it had indeed been incredibly pungent.
She immediately rushed to the bathroom to scrub herself clean. Fifteen minutes later, she emerged, changed into fresh clothes, and left the house once more, heading straight toward the clinic.
Once she arrived at the clinic, the doctor was already prepared. He had written a formal letter for her to take to the hospital for a specialist reference. Without wasting a moment, she took her daughter and began the long drive to the hospital in the city.
...
By the time Chen Song finally returned home, the sky had already darkened into a deep, heavy black. But the moment he stepped across the threshold, he was met with a sea of familiar faces filling his living room. Several pairs of eyes turned toward him the very instant he entered, tracking his every move.
It was his elder brother, Chen Guoliang, who sat stiffly on the sofa. As Chen Meili’s father, his expression was dark and stormy, radiating a palpable sense of fury. Beside him sat Xue Jinghua, Chen Meili’s mother, her eyes swollen and reddened from crying. She clutched a crumpled tissue tightly in her trembling hand. A few other relatives were also scattered around the room, their postures rigid and their faces etched with tension.
Chen Song’s wife, Duan Mei, looked at her husband with a deeply uncomfortable and pained expression. Earlier, her brother-in-law, his wife, and the other relatives had swarmed her, demanding to know where her husband was. She had told them repeatedly that he was still not home, but they refused to leave, insisting they would wait as long as it took to see him. Left with no other choice, she had been forced to welcome them into the home to wait in a suffocating silence.
Chen Song saw them all gathered there and realised he did not need to ask why they had come. It was clear they already knew about the matter.
"You are finally back." Chen Guoliang said, his voice low and dangerous.
Chen Song closed the door quietly behind him. His movements were slow and deliberate, as though he were physically bracing himself for an inevitable blow. No one asked how he was doing after such a disastrous day. No one cared.
"Explain." Chen Guoliang demanded, the word dropping like a stone.
Chen Song remained standing where he was for a long moment, staring at the floor before finally walking further into the room to face them.
"There is nothing to explain." Chen Song said flatly, his tone devoid of emotion.
That single sentence acted like a spark in a powder keg, instantly igniting the tension in the room.
"Nothing to explain?!" Xue Jinghua’s voice rose sharply, bordering on a shriek. "My daughter was fired! And now we hear that you have been suspended too! How can you stand there and say there is nothing to explain?!"
"Some of our other relatives were also suspended today." Another relative added, their voice thick with resentment. "The company told them they needed to stay home indefinitely. They said there would be an investigation regarding how they were even hired in the first place!"
The words hung heavily in the air, thick with the threat of total ruin. Chen Song’s jaw tightened until the muscles ached.
"Then, just do what the company said." Chen Song replied simply.
The room fell into a stunned silence. No one had expected such a blunt, dismissive answer. Chen Guoliang’s face darkened immediately, his skin turning a mottled shade of purple.
"Explain! What exactly had you done?" Chen Guoliang demanded again, hammering his hand against the arm of the sofa.
Chen Song let out a quiet, weary breath, feeling a profound exhaustion seeping deep into his bones.
"You want an explanation?" Chen Song said, his voice steady but utterly drained. "Then, you should ask your daughter what she has done."
All eyes in the room instantly pivoted toward Chen Meili. She had been sitting hunched in the corner, her head lowered as if trying to disappear. Her face was pale and visibly swollen from hours of crying. Under the sudden, crushing weight of their collective gaze, her entire body stiffened.
"I..." Chen Meili hesitated, her fingers gripping her clothes so tightly her knuckles turned white.
Earlier, when Chen Meili had returned home sobbing, her parents had already pressed her for the truth. However, she had not dared to tell them the full story. She had only managed to admit that she had been fired. Then, one by one, the phone calls had started coming in. The relatives reported that their husbands and sons, all of whom had secured their jobs through their relationship with Chen Song, had been suspended. Her parents and the affected relatives decided to descend upon Chen Song’s house, demanding an explanation since he held one of the highest positions in the company.
"Speak up!" Chen Guoliang barked, urging his daughter to find her voice.
Chen Meili’s lips trembled violently. "I... I did not know who she was..." She started weakly.
Chen Song let out a short, bitter laugh that held no humour.
"Start from the very beginning." Chen Song stated firmly.
"That’s right. Tell us everything from the start." Chen Guoliang echoed.
Chen Meili’s lips trembled again, her voice failing her.
"Well, if she won’t, let me tell you." Chen Song scoffed, his eyes flashing with cold anger. "She offended the one person in this entire city that she should never have offended."
