Chapter 2791: You Can’t See Our Master

Chapter 2791: Chapter 2791: You Can’t See Our Master

Instead, both remained fixated on the exact same spot, their expressions completely composed, as if someone were truly standing right there in plain sight.

Hector Vaughn’s face hardened.

"Who are you looking at?" Hector Vaughn asked, his tone laced with caution.

Xiaohua ignored him entirely. She and Xiaoliu dropped down from the high branch, landing lightly and soundlessly on the ground below.

Xiaoliu and Xiaohua jumped from the tree and landed on the ground.

"Master... Master!" Xiaohua called out happily toward the empty patch of land.

Xiaoliu pushed Xiaohua’s hand and whispered something in Xiaohua’s ear after he saw Hector Vaughn’s reaction.

Hector Vaughn’s eyes narrowed into slits. He still could not see a single soul. Were these two kids just trying to mess with his head? Or was there actually... A creeping sense of dread settled into his chest.

Xiaoliu picked up on Hector Vaughn’s growing unease. He reached out, gently nudged Xiaohua’s hand, and leaned in close to whisper something into her ear.

Xiaohua blinked a few times, glanced at Xiaoliu, and then turned her gaze back to Hector Vaughn. A mischievous grin slowly spread across her face.

Hector Vaughn instantly raised his guard.

"What are you two whispering about?" Hector Vaughn snapped.

Xiaohua did not answer directly. Instead, she clapped her hands over her mouth and giggled softly.

"He still does not know." Xiaohua mocked.

"Doesn’t know what?" Hector Vaughn frowned, his patience wearing thin.

"That you can’t see our Master." Xiaohua tilted her head innocently.

Hector Vaughn’s pupils dilated instantly. His heart dropped into his stomach. He frantically scanned the surrounding open space once more. Nothing. There was absolutely nobody there. Yet the two children were acting as though they were staring right at someone standing mere feet away.

Hector Vaughn’s white-knuckled grip on his pistol tightened.

"Where is your Master?" Hector Vaughn demanded, his voice strained.

"Right there." Xiaohua pointed a small finger straight into the empty air ahead.

Hector Vaughn stared intensely at the open space. Still nothing. His breath hitched in his chest. If the girl was not lying, then an unseen entity was standing right in front of him, someone who had managed to breach the island’s perimeter and infiltrate the complex completely unnoticed. The image of his mercenaries lying scattered and unconscious across the facility flashed through his mind. His face turned deathly pale.

"Impossible..." Hector Vaughn muttered under his breath.

"It is not impossible." Xiaoliu watched him with cold, detached eyes.

A cold sweat broke out across Hector Vaughn’s forehead. Slowly, he raised the barrel of his handgun, aiming it directly at the empty air.

"Show yourself!" Hector Vaughn shouted, panic seeping into his voice. "I know you are standing right there!"

For several suffocating seconds, total silence hung over the grounds. Then, a woman’s clear, calm voice resonated from the seemingly vacant space.

"Your guess is right."

Hector Vaughn’s entire frame locked up. His eyes bulged in absolute shock. He could hear the voice crystal clear, as if she were standing right beside him, yet his eyes registered nothing but thin air.

"See? I told you Master was here." Xiaohua’s grin widened.

Hector Vaughn swallowed hard, a lump forming in his throat. For the very first time since the assault began, the sheer horror of his situation fully sank in.

Yu Qi took out the exact same masks they had worn when they interrogated Richard Lee. She handed one to Long Hui and put on the other herself before she asked Aoi to deactivate Invisible mode.

Two figures materialised out of thin air directly in front of Hector Vaughn, one wearing a white rabbit mask and the other a black panther mask. Their sudden, silent appearance made him jump back in alarm.

"You?! Who the hell are you?" Hector Vaughn demanded warily, his eyes darting between the two figures.

He white-knuckled his pistol, his index finger hovering nervously over the trigger.

"Didn’t you just demand that we reveal ourselves? Here we are." Yu Qi stated calmly.

"Don’t play word games with me! Who are you?! What are you doing on my island?! What have you done to my people?!" Hector Vaughn roared, his voice cracking with rage.

Every installation on this island was the culmination of years of his hard work. He had poured countless resources into constructing this base and safeguarding its dark secrets. Yet, in a single afternoon, these two shadowy intruders had plunged everything into absolute ruin. How could he not be furious? More than anything, he desperately needed to know who was behind his undoing.

"Then let me ask you the exact same question." Yu Qi countered, her voice dropping into a sub-zero chill. "What are you doing on this island? What have you been doing to those helpless captives, especially those children? Why did they have to suffer through your horrific atrocities?"

The moment those words left her mouth, a suffocating pressure slammed into Hector Vaughn like a physical wall. He suddenly felt as though an invisible, crushing hand had clamped tightly around his windpipe. His breathing cut off instantly. His eyes bulged as he desperately tried to draw air into his starved lungs. His face turned a sickly shade of purple, his knees buckling under the sheer weight of the aura as he nearly fainted from hypoxia.

Then, just as abruptly as it had descended, the agonising pressure vanished. Hector Vaughn collapsed forward, gasping violently and coughing up phlegm as he greedily dragged air back into his chest.

"You...!!!" Hector Vaughn wheezed, looking up at the masked couple in sheer horror.

These two were not human. He had dealt with dangerous, influential figures his entire life, but he had never encountered anyone who could render him completely helpless without even lifting a finger.
