Chapter 2091: A Bonus for You

Qiao Mei and the rest of the family members were staying over at Xia Fang’s house during this period of time. The house which Qiao Mei bought some time back, the one near Capital University, was also located nearby. “I’ve met your grandfather a few times and I know how he runs the Xia family. I know that there is nothing between you and that woman. I’m just angry that you didn’t settle this matter fast enough and made my Mo Zhu suffer for it,” Mo Chou said.

“I’m sorry, Father,” Xia Wen said with his head lowered.

“Don’t say sorry to me! You should say it to Mo Zhu! It’s my poor daughter who insists on marrying into the wolf den that is your family! Back then, I couldn’t dissuade her no matter what I said. Although she made it look like she was not affected, she still felt a little uncomfortable in her heart. She did not dare to tell Xia Wen about how she felt. He was very busy with work and she did not want to cause any more trouble for him. She wanted to be a good wife to the best of her abilities.

“I’ll settle the issue well,” Xia Wen said.

Mo Chou sighed as he noticed how haggard Xia Wen looked. His heart also ached for Xia Wen. For Xia Wen to achieve so much at such a young age, it must not be easy for him as well. As the eldest son of the Xia family, Xia Wen had to shoulder a lot of responsibilities.

“Alright, you stay here with Mo Zhu. Her mother and I will go and rest for a while.” After saying that, Mo Chou called out to Liu Shu to leave together.

As Liu Shu walked out, she patted Xia Wen’s shoulder and comforted him in a low voice. “Your father-in-law has a stubborn temper. Actually, he cares a lot about you, but he just doesn’t know how to express himself. In the room, there’s some soup which he made for you. Don’t let yourself get too tired.”

“Thank you, Mother. I understand,” Xia Wen said with a smile.

After sending Mo Chou and Liu Shu off, Xia Wen composed himself and walked over to Mo Zhu’s bed. She had felt some discomfort in her stomach during the day and was finally able to get some sleep now. Xia Wen could not bear to wake Mo Zhu up.

To him, Mo Zhu was like a treasure bestowed by the heavens. He had thought that he would never get married again after he divorced Tan Jing. He did not expect fate to lead him to Mo Zhu. He would never let the worst case scenario described by Mo Chou come true.

“Why do you look unwell?” Qiao Mei asked.

“It’s my fault. I’ll give you a bonus! I’ll let you take a break!” Qiao Mei said.

“A bonus? How much?” Yao Nian asked.

“1,000 dollars,” Qiao Mei said.

“That’s too little. How can the fruits of my labor only be worth 1,000 dollars? You haven’t paid me the remuneration and bonuses for the last few times! You have to settle the full bill this time! No more delay in payment!” Yao Nian said in a fit of pique.
