Chapter 367: Catching the Culprit

Soon, they arrived at Trinity Village. Panicked voices shouting for the fire to be put out could be heard even from a distance. The flames Zhou Hengyang had seen from the car’s roof had died down, which relieved him a little.
...The fire had been extinguished. The quick reactions of the villagers prevented a disaster.
“Wenwen…” Zhou Hengyang mumbled feverishly, hoping she was alright.
“Stop the car!” Zhou Hengyang suddenly shouted.
Xu Xiaoxiao slammed on the breaks immediately, doing justice to his dual identity as a professor and instructor. Four long tire tracks gouged into the earth as the car screeched to a halt.
The sudden appearance of the car, and the loud shriek caused by its sudden break, scared Shi Caiyue and Su Xuefang out of their wits.
Su Xuefang was so badly startled that she curled into a ball, shivering in the tall grass. Shi Caiyue was much bolder. She fled into the fields – a tip she had received from her friends on how not to get caught. Although terrified, she used it to her advantage, pushing herself to flee toward the barren mountains in the east. As long as she reached the barren mountains, the odds of her being caught were slim.
Shi Caiyue cursed her bad luck.
Cars were very uncommon in the countryside. One might see few in the county towns but never in the villages. For someone to have driven a car to the village in the middle of the night, they would have had to have an agenda. Perhaps it was the police or someone working with them to arrest her!
When her mind conjured up the possibility, Shi Caiyue broke into a cold sweat, pushing herself to run faster, not daring to stop. Unfortunately, she tripped over a rock and hit her head. Stars danced in her vision, but she forced herself to her feet and continued running, even as twigs and jagged rocks left rips in her pants.
“It’s her again!” Xu Xiaoxiao dismissed the crouching figure of Su Xuefang hiding in the grass as he eyed the fleeing Shi Caiyue gleefully. Only someone fearing capture would flee so quickly from a crime scene as if their life depended on it.
“Leave it to me.” Energy surged through Xu Xiaoxiao’s veins as he launched himself in pursuit of Shi Caiyue. With speed no one would have guessed his slender physique could possess, Xu Xiaoxiao caught up with Shi Caiyue.
Xu Xiaoxiao was several times faster than Shi Caiyue, as evidenced by his ability to treat the rivers, crops, and fields as if walking on flat ground. If one were to liken him to a cheetah, then Shi Caiyue would be the antelope.
Zhou Hengyang was very confident in Xu Xiaoxiao’s skills. He ignored the duo in favor of Su Xuefang, who was cowering in the grass. Unlike Shi Caiyue, who had made a run for it as soon as they arrived – hence, not being identifiable in the dark – Su Xuefang had curled into herself, close enough for him to identify her.
Zhou Hengyang had a good memory. He had met Su Xuefang once when he first arrived at Su Wen’s place. Back then, his impression of her had not been very good, not because she despised or looked down on him, but rather due to how stupid she was compared to the rest of the Su family.
Poisonous and stupid!
Chen Guihua was nothing compared to the stupidity that Su Xuefang embodied. Far less annoying too.
Zhou Hengyang walked up to Su Xuefang, eyeing her trembling form huddled in the grass, his eyes laden with disgust.
“We’ve met before. Back at Su Wen’s house,” he said.
Su Xuefang looked up in surprise. “You… Why is it you?” So it was not someone here to arrest her.
Su Xuefang was deeply relieved. She spat out a mouthful of soil that had entered her mouth earlier when she fell and flailed helplessly to her feet. It was almost comical. Arrogantly, she jabbed an accusing finger at him. “What are you doing here in the middle of the night? Where’d that car come from? Did you steal it?”
As long as she was not under arrest, Su Xuefang felt there was nothing she needed to worry about, and her confidence soared. Her attitude became condescending since it was just Zhou Hengyang, not someone else..
