222 Big Dog
Knowing He Miao’s personality, Old Master Jing did not try to persuade her. He took out a bank card from his pocket and handed it to her. “According to tradition, the parents of the man should give a big red packet as a gift when the woman comes to the man’s house for the first time. You can’t refuse this money.”
He Miao waved her hands and said seriously, “Didn’t Grandpa give me a red packet? You don’t need to give me more.”
“That’s the red packet for the new year. How can it be the same as this amount of money? ” Old Master Jing took her hand forcefully and stuffed the bank card into her hand. He deliberately put on a serious face and said, “Take it. If you don’t take the money and other people know about it, they will say that the Jing family is not satisfied with you.”
He Miao knew this rule as well, but she had only just confirmed her relationship with Jing Yan and had not thought about things so far away, so she had overlooked it. She did not expect Grandpa Jing to be so considerate of her.
She lowered her head and took the bank card shyly. “I know, Grandpa, but please don’t be so polite in the future. Otherwise, I wouldn’t dare to come.”
“What’s the big deal?” Old Master Jing smiled and said, “You’re Jing Yan’s fiancée, so everything in the Jing family will be yours in the future. What’s this little bit of money for? Grandpa only wants you and Jing Yan to live well and grow old together. I’m satisfied with that.”
“I’ll treat my relationship with Jing Yan seriously.” He Miao sincerely held Old Master Jing’s hand and exchanged a glance with Jing Yan, who had arrived late, before looking away.
“What are you talking about?” Jing Yan was only a short distance behind, but he seemed to have missed something important. He could not help but sit beside He Miao and ask, “What did you say to Grandpa? Is it related to me?”
“You can go and guess.” He Miao lifted her chin with a smirk and shared a smile with Old Master Jing. They both picked up their chopsticks and started to eat. Neither of them had any intention of answering his question.
Jing Yan’s heart itched. The feeling of someone hiding a secret from him and only he did not know. It made him very curious. He fawningly put a piece of soft and sweet red braised meat into He Miao’s bowl and carefully said, “Can you tell me? I’ll agree to anything you ask of me. ”
“Really?” He Miao chewed on the sweet red braised meat in her mouth, narrowing her eyes in satisfaction and smiling at him.
“Of course it’s true!” Jing Yan immediately raised his finger and swore.
He Miao nodded, and under Jing Yan’s increasingly expectant gaze, she said unhurriedly, “Grandpa just promised me that I can stay at my classmate’s house for the night tomorrow. I don’t have to come back.”
“How can we do that?!” Jing Yan immediately became anxious. He glared at the smiling old man and could not help but say angrily, “I don’t agree. I’ll pick you up tomorrow. You can’t sleep in someone else’s house.”
“Why?” He Miao looked at him in confusion.
This person could not possibly be worried about her staying at a classmate’s house, right? He had met Xu Meng a few times, what was there to worry about?
“It just won’t work!” Jing Yan had always been obedient in front of He Miao, but this was the first time he had refused her so strongly.
He Miao immediately frowned unhappily. “If you don’t give me a proper reason, I won’t come back.”
Jing Yan was no longer in the mood to eat. He grabbed He Miao’s hand and dragged her into a guest room near the dining room. He closed the door and pressed He Miao against the door. He said fiercely, “You’re not allowed to sleep in other people’s houses.”
“Why?” She pouted and glared at him in dissatisfaction, not understanding why he was suddenly so overbearing.
Actually, He Miao did not plan to sleep at Xu Meng’s house at all. She only said that to tease him, but she did not expect Jing Yan to have such a big reaction.
Jing Yan heaved a sigh and closed his eyes. As if he had made a great decision, he held her tightly in his arms and said in a low voice, “Because I’ll miss you very much.”
He softened his tone and pleaded softly, “Let me pick you up when you’re done playing tomorrow, okay? Why don’t you go home and sleep instead of other people’s houses? I’ll warm you some milk and coax you to sleep, okay?”
He Miao pushed him away in amusement and could not help but glare at him reproachfully. “Who needs you to coax me to sleep?”
“Then you promise me you won’t sleep in other people’s houses?” Jing Yan grabbed her hand and wrapped it in his big palm like Onion would. He stared at her with his watery eyes without blinking, which made her heart soften.
“Alright,” she said. He Miao nodded and raised her hand to caress his hair. She suddenly had the vision that the man in front of her was actually an enlarged version of Onion.
Jing Yan rubbed his head against her palm in enjoyment. He only woke up when he saw her surprised look. He pulled her hand away and coughed dryly. “Let’s go back and eat. Don’t let Grandpa wait too long.”
“Oh, okay.” He Miao nodded. When she caught a glimpse of the man’s red ears, she could not help but laugh behind him.
Hearing her laughter, Jing Yan was annoyed that he had been a dog for too long and had accidentally picked up the habit of a dog. He almost thought that he was the stupid dog who always waited for his owner to touch his head!
