Peasant Woman's Decreed Life as a Wife

Chapter 1776: 1773: The Request

Chapter 1776: Chapter 1773: The Request

“I hope Madam understands.” Lord Zhao said politely.

Ye Muyu nodded, “Of course, when will you interrogate the witnesses? Will it be in the temple? What about Miss Guo, has she awoken?”

She posed a few questions, making Lord Zhao somewhat anxious, worried that Ye Muyu wanted to involve herself in the matter or concerned that she was openly cooperating but actually asking questions to deliberately hinder the investigation.

Lord Zhao hadn’t figured out how to handle Ye Muyu yet.

King Qi spoke up, his voice still gentle, “Madam, don’t worry, the interrogation will be next door, in the side room. I have already dispatched many guards to ensure there will be no danger.”

“Everyone must finish giving their statement before they can leave.”

“Miss Guo is unconscious from fright and has not awakened yet; she will be the last to give her statement.”

Ye Muyu furrowed her brows slightly, “I heard the Abbot can do acupuncture, has he seen Miss Guo?”

“He has seen her, but Miss Guo still hasn’t awoken, we can only wait.” King Qi said.

Ye Muyu said, “May I go see Miss Guo?”

“Of course.” King Qi found the suggestion odd but thought perhaps Ye Muyu was merely concerned for Miss Guo. Previously, she had arranged for someone to inform him, expressing her worry that the culprit hadn’t been caught yet and the importance of protecting the witnesses.

King Qi then felt assured of Ye Muyu’s concern for Miss Guo’s safety and followed her to the corner.

In the corner, several young misses and maidservants who had previously planned to visit the temple with Miss Guo were surrounding Guo Niannian.

Guo Niannian lay unconscious on the stretcher, her complexion showed no sign of issues.

Ye Muyu crouched down, reached out to touch Miss Guo’s forehead, holding a handkerchief, and wiped her forehead, appearing to be merely concerned for her.

As her hand withdrew, the wide sleeve concealed her actions, her fingers touched Guo Niannian’s pulse.

“I hope Miss Guo can wake up soon.”

“Prince, please arrange for the testimonies to be recorded.” Ye Muyu said.

King Qi nodded, no one noticed her subtle movement.

King Qi and Lord Zhao discussed briefly, and then Lord Zhao led the people to the side room next door.

Ye Muyu had already pulled back her hand, stood upright, walked to the statue, and with hands clasped, uttered “Amitabha,” sincerely bowing to the statue.

“I hope Miss Guo awakens soon, and Abo recovers swiftly.”

Beside her, King Qi also bowed.

Ye Muyu then turned to the Abbot, “Abbot, could you recite scriptures for the deceased?”

“Everyone was shocked today; I worry they might have nightmares when they return home. I wonder if I could trouble you to recite scriptures; we will sincerely kowtow before Buddha to cleanse today’s guilt from our hearts. Ultimately, our reaction wasn’t quick enough, allowing the thieves to succeed.”

The Abbot uttered “Amitabha.”

“Benefactor need not worry, for all worldly events have cause and effect; you have wronged no one today.” The Abbot did not refuse, but also did not immediately agree.

Instead, he asked King Qi for his opinion.

Though King Qi found Ye Muyu’s request peculiar, thinking she perhaps also enjoys worship, he thought it was merely a matter of taboo. After considering, he spoke to assist, “If the Abbot doesn’t mind, as Madam suggests, recite the scriptures, and rest assured, I will donate for the incense and oil.”

A religious ceremony indeed requires funding, and King Qi was aware, assuming the Abbot might be concerned about this.
